“Let me know when and I’ll see if I can join you,” Janna said sincerely. If it had been a trick it wasn’t apparent. She was too good to give that away anyway.

“I will,” Viyara grinned.

Reaching over, Kingston tapped a couple fingers on the PADD. “What will this tell me?” she asked simply.

For the briefest of moments Viyara’s smile faltered ever so slightly. But when she answered, her voice conveyed confidence and ease. “It will tell you that I’m an excellent scientist. That I don’t like staying in one place for too long. And that my superior officers and I don’t always see eye to eye.” All of that was true, yet as with everything there was of course more to it than that. Her file would show that she had indeed received the highest grades in her science degree and there were some remarks in her personnel file that indicated that she was a very gifted scientist. Yet it would also show that she had needed to attempts to even be accepted at the Academy. That she finished her degree on a different location then where she started. It showed a number of reprimands. A few cases of minor insubordination, but mostly due to reckless behaviour on and off duty. And a note from at least one of the Counsellors of a ship she was assigned to before, stating that she was mostly unwilling to talk about anything prior to her enrollment at the Academy. And of course the fact that even after five years of active duty she was still an Ensign.

For the moment Janna left the PADD on the table. Every counsellor approached evals with a different philosophy. Some wanted to know about their patient ahead of time, some preferred not to have any preconceptions. Janna just went with it. She preferred knowledge, but there were times when she found it useful to see what a patient would actually tell her and in what way it was communicated. “And what happens when you don’t see eye to eye?” Kingston asked curiously.

With her eyebrows slightly raised, Viyara gave a shrug with her left shoulder. “I sometimes do things my way anyway and there have been a times that got me into some trouble. Even when I was right,” she replied bluntly, yet with an air about her as if she couldn’t care less about negative effects any of her actions might have on herself. If she was perfectly honest, she did mind, but she had been telling even herself so often that she didn’t care about getting in trouble or even kicked out of Starfleet, that she believed the lie herself. And really, in her experience introspection was too painful and thus something that she tried to avoid as much as possible.

There were times when having something to drink in hand was nice. It provided something to do during the silent moments of the conversation. But Janna hadn’t offered (quite on purpose) and Viyara hadn’t asked. “And when you ere wrong?” Kingston asked, her gaze fixed on Nazeen.

“We all make mistakes, don’t we?” Viyara asked by way of an answer, looking Janna straight in the eyes. Shifting her position ever so slightly, so that she was resting more against the left armrest, and crossing her legs at the knee, she continued, “When I make a mistake, I’ll admit it, apologise if necessary, fix it if possible and move on. And I will have learned from it. Also, I find that especially in chemistry and biochemistry you learn more from an experiment going wrong, than if it goes right the first time you do it.”
