“I think that depends on how much of the ship’s alcohol reserves I can get access to. Strictly for patient treatment of course.” Séan quipped lightly before he continued in a less joking manner. “I’m thinking that I’ll be thankful I’m not a natural empath. I can feel the… heaviness, on what crew I’ve met and the ship has an oppressive feeling to it overall. Being in at starbase seems like it’s helping, what with all the distractions it can provide, but I’m beginning to realize just how much my arrival is paradoxically the best and worst time. The ship and her crew need what I can bring in way of healing at a crucial time.” He looked at Ghubari with a rare for him serious expression. “I’m very good at my job but there’s only one of me and however many of the staff. Considering the time needed to see and help all of the crew, it may be necessary to get a team of counselors dispatched from Starfleet to help.”

Ghubari nodded slowly. “The Ogawa is at base too. They’ve got a whole psyc department and are trained for emergency intervention. I could ask if some of them could lend a hand. For the report I read, they’ll be here a while too.”

Resting an arm on her desk, the captain leaned forward a bit, contemplating, her gaze drifting about. After a few moment, she lifted her gaze to Iven. “I ask… no… demand of my crew impossible things. It’s a cliché about captains. But you have to understand that often that is an exaggeration. For us it is not. Ever. We haven’t had a break, Séan, so I’m demanding one to Starfleet on behalf of the crew. They’re tired, and worn out. And more than a few based on Lieutenant Kingston’s last update have some signs of trauma that may or may not persist. And this won’t do. We need to be at our best. But I… I’m not sure how to get us all there this time. After so many years of just pushing through and toughing it out, I feel like the next thing, even if it’s smaller, may break them.”

Séan nodded his head slowly as he met her eyes with his. “Captain… Ghubari, Starfleet will just have to understand that the tension of the crew is at the breaking point. Even when the repairs are finished and they insist on sending us out, I won’t be certifying the ship as ready until we truly are. This naturally includes my evaluation of you, not that I’m making a threat here, but we need a sit down for an appointment before I’ll clear you. This isn’t the time for that though.” He sighed as he reached a hand up to run through his hair. “I’ll contact the Ogawa first thing tomorrow and see if I can get us some more help. As much as I want to assist all of the crew personally, or at least in house, I know my limits and I’d not be of help to anybody if I killed myself trying to do that.”

“Good, I’m glad you recognize that this is a team effort,” she replied. “The extra help will be welcome. I’m a proud woman, as you might have garnered already, but for my crew? I’m not so proud that I won’t do whatever I have to for them. Go ahead and contact the Ogawa crew and see who they might be able to spare.”

His warning about her own eval did not go unnoticed, but as he said, now was not the time. “We will be here for awhile, like I said.” She smiled softly. “And that means myself and my husband get to go on a much needed vacation.” The smiled deepened. Some might not think a visit with her in-laws would be cause for happiness, but in this case, she adored Konral’s family and was eager to see them, especially Dalera.

Séan was mildly surprised at Ghubari’s smile and mention of a vacation with her husband. Was he on the ship as well? Or was he waiting for her elsewhere? He didn’t feel it polite or appropriate to delve into that, so he focused on the later part. “Do you have a destination in mind for your much needed vacation? I can’t say I’m all that fond of Risa as it’s so manufactured for leisure. DS9 is a fun place to visit though, especially with the hostilities having settled down.”
