Appropriately attired in his uniform and five minutes early to the two hour deadline given to him, Séan stood in front of the Captain’s Ready Room and took a breath before reaching out and pressing the chime.CNS Iven
“Enter,” came the reply, Koraia’s deep voice crisp and all-business.
Tucked aft of the bridge, the space was fairly generous, befitting the size of the vessel its occupant commanded. Her desk sat aft, facing the door with the sitting area that included a sofa, table and a couple chairs off to her left. Across from her and to the right of the door was a nook with shelves that displayed what few items she had so far. Having lost all her worldly possessions, she was careful and methodical about what she decided to put out. Said shelves held an ebony wood mask, carved in the tradition of her Makondi tribe. There was a photograph of an older woman with even darker skin than Ghubari’s. The elder woman was seating on the steps of a white washed house with an ornately carved drum in front of her legs. There was an intense look in her eyes that mirrored the one often in Ghubari’s eyes. Beside that photo was one of her and Konral on their wedding day, joy etched into both their faces. On the shelf too was a flowering plant with soft petals in a dark green and waxy petals in a dark purple with tiny yellow stamens- an African violet, native to Tanzania. A large leafy potted plant was in the sitting area.
Ghubari was sitting at her desk, her gaze intently focused on her screen, though she did look up just briefly enough to gesture at Iven to come over. “Have a seat, Lieutenant.”

Séan took in the decorations, organization of the ready room, and the personal items but didn’t comment on them. He took a seat as directed and crossed a leg over his knee while he clasped his hands in his lap. He didn’t speak but left the pace to the Captain to dictate.

As if by silent agreement, Ghubari just continued reading, her leaf-shaped ridged brow furrowing as she pursed her lips slightly. A few key taps and she pushed away her screen with a sigh of frustration. Her pale amber eyes shifted to Séan and she seemed to consider him at length.
“I don’t know whether to congratulate you or give you my condolences,” Ghubari said sadly.

“I think that depends on how much of the ship’s alcohol reserves I can get access to. Strictly for patient treatment of course.” Séan quipped lightly before he continued in a less joking manner. “I’m thinking that I’ll be thankful I’m not a natural empath. I can feel the… heaviness, on what crew I’ve met and the ship has an oppressive feeling to it overall. Being in at starbase seems like it’s helping, what with all the distractions it can provide, but I’m beginning to realize just how much my arrival is paradoxically the best and worst time. The ship and her crew need what I can bring in way of healing at a crucial time.” He looked at Ghubari with a rare for him serious expression. “I’m very good at my job but there’s only one of me and however many of the staff. Considering the time needed to see and help all of the crew, it may be necessary to get a team of counselors dispatched from Starfleet to help.”
