She snorted. “If I thought for a second you didn’t care about people, about this crew, you’d be off this ship before you knew what hit you.” It was an effortless statement to make, but that didn’t make it any less true. And despite the ease of their conversation, there was grit behind her words. Hard won and no hold barred. It was never a threat and always a promise.

Séan’s smile vanished and determination could be seen in his eyes as he responded seriously. “I haven’t had the chance to meet the crew yet but you have my word that they’ll receive my full support.” He didn’t mention his meeting with Karina as it wasn’t especially pertinent to this conversation but his first impression of the Athena was a positive one. “If at any point you find me lacking in my responsibilities then please throw me off the ship. I’m here to be of any support I can provide and if I prove useless at that then I’d rather not be here.”

CNS Iven

She smiled, though it was softer than her previous statement. “I’m glad we’re on the same page.” She dropped the other hand off her hip, holding a casual stance, though quite often she looked ready for action should the next moment demand it of her. “They’ve been through some rough times lately. We never know what we’ll be asked to do next so it’s imperative that we’re at our best. You have your work cut out for you Counsellor.”

And with that she turned on the ball of her foot and once again headed for the door. “Find your quarters, find your uniform. My ready room in two hours.” What that exactly gave him time to accomplish depended entirely on priorities. But then again that was the point.

Koraia disappeared into the corridor, humming to herself, her rich alto voice resonating.
