Bam!The bag swung hard away from her and she side stepped as it swung back. Spinning her body with her left leg leading, her shoed toes collided with the began it began to swing back.
It spun.
She watched it as if it were a small curiosity to be studied. The empath’s emotions locked down tight and her face expressionless as her heart rate increased from the exertion. It felt good to release some of the tension, though it was only some. The rest hidden beneath a mask she wasn’t ready to take down. Not yet. Not today.
The spin slowed as it swung and she side kicked, sending it swinging wide despite its weight. The pips she normally wore on her collar should indicate where her priorities lay, and they did, but her instincts finely honed in her previous years as a security officer ready to fight were with her always. Black shorts and a black t-shirt hugged her lean body and well defined muscles, while her short mass of soft tight black curls were partially hidden beneath a black head scarf.
As she watched the bag to plot her next move, her pale amber eyes were on high alert for the motion around her. One did not sneak up on Koraia. She’d have to be comatose or so out of it her empathy couldn’t register the presence of another person. It was highly unlikely.

A tall man with brown hair and red highlights entered the gym, gave it a quick look, noted the person over at the sand bag, and not knowing them or wanting to be a nuisance to them, he moved to an empty padded floor spot. He faced towards what he approximated to be the east wall, took a deep breath, settled into a stance and began a set of slow motions. His movements were measured as they varied from one moment to the next. Despite the slow speed his movements were being performed, a sheen of perspiration began to gather on his forehead. It was a good thing he was wearing breathable clothing, the sleeveless shirt and shorts also providing great range of motion. With a satisfied hum after a good warm up, Séan’s movements increased in speed and strength.

Ghubari noted the arrival and took in many details about him even though it was likely that she seemed to ignore him.
The kick bag went flying again.
Despite her workout and clearly taking out controlled aggression on the bag, she had not yet broken into a sweat. “Your form is pretty good,” she commented idly to the man also on the mat.

Séan slowed his movements enough to gracefully reorient towards the voice he heard. “Thank you. My teacher would find something to criticize but he’d been mostly happy with my progress.” A small flash of sadness came and left his face quickly. He settled back into his motions and re-centered himself.
The brief emotional flux didn’t skip her notice but she wasn’t about to comment. “Tighten your core just a little bit and you find more strength when you reach out,” she offered, not as a flaw to be fixed but a simple suggestion based on experience. Her voice was low and calm, its alto tone tinged with a heavy accent that fellow Tanzanites could place as being from the southwest region, but most others could only vaguely as from east Africa on Earth.
Séan couldn’t really place Ghubari’s accent, not having been on Earth all that much except for his time at the Academy, but accepted her suggestion easily and tried it out. He found that it’d take some time to polish and balance the added strength with the litheness he wanted, but it did help for a more explosive momentum when it was needed. He nodded his thanks to her as he continued his routine.
“Your use of power and balance is impressive.” He complimented back. Perhaps he’d go hit a bag after his routine finished.

She chuckled. “I’m holding back. I’m trying to remember that the bag did nothing wrong. Restraint is often advised but there are times when you just have to let go. Unfortunately when I do I risk breaking the damn thing and the Chief of Security always gives me a hard time when I do that,” she added with a lopsided smirk.
“You’re new here,” she stated. It was impossible for her to know every face of the one thousand crew that could be on her ship at every given time, but she could pick our a newbie in a heartbeat.

“I am.” Séan answered back. He drew his routine to an end and walked towards the woman. It wouldn’t do to have a conversation at a distance and he wanted to be friendly and polite with the crew that met. He stopped well outside of her personal space but close enough that they wouldn’t have to speak loudly to hear each other.
“I just transferred aboard a few hours ago. After the long shuttle ride I needed to stretch and get the kinks out before I did my check-ins. After a good sweat and a long shower, I was planning to go to medical and get my physical out of the way.” He smiled easily. “I don’t mind the good doctors but the less I need to be in Sickbay the better.”
