Horace had decided to take the Doctor up on her offer of a Drink. Horace did not really think about it but it was part of the healing process. Already he had mentally adopted the young Doctor into his shipboard family. He sent Iris a message to let her know that he was having dinner and drinks with the young doctor. He hid nothing from his wife, cause she could kill him 17 ways with just her thumb, and cause it was the right thing to do. Then he dropped a message to Cara that he would be in the lounge that evening if she wanted to join him.Horace had completed all the needed things that a checkin required, part of which was a 3 hour meeting with the Android, Horace corrected himself, Commander Chryst, the Executive officer was amiably enough and straightforward about his expectations of the Chief, and that was good. Successfully he had avoided meeting the Captain by citing his need for a mental evaluation. Which he had not done, he did not want to be Analyzed at the moment. His paperwork said he was up to date on mental evals, which would work for a month or so he figured. Then he would make an appointment with one of the Junior Counselors, they were easier to fool.
Horace settled at the Bar with a grunt. The man was not the best looking man to enter 17/18 forward, not by a long shot. He looked more at home in some out of the way dirty hole in the wall Ferengi bar, than he did a Starfleet lounge. He was wearing a simple shirt and pants set in earth tones the shirt being several shades lighter than the pants, with a coat over that was almost the same color as his boots. His wife selected his leisurewear based upon the outfits of some Holovid host that she loved to watch. Horace honestly did not care if it looked like you dressed a homely monkey up as Richard Erinys of Man Vs Universe, that guy was an idiot. As he waited he waved the bartender over to order a drink.

After finishing her grulling hours of shifts in sickbay JO’s have to do she was more than ready to relax. She was used to the hours since residency and the academy didn’t leave much idle time, or time for sleep for that matter. She had been thrilled to get the inviation to meet Horace in the lounge. She had been thinking about him a lot since he had come into sick bay for his physical. She had feeling they were supposed to me, and perhaps help each other. She was off duty at last so he dressed in her casual clothes, a long flowly blue skirt with a short sleeved top match that fit her well toned phisque well. No many women wore such things anymore, and especially not star-fleet but she had been resigned for years to not being like most women. Her dark hair was down and waved against her shoulder and her dark green eyes bright with excitement. She had never been to the lounge before anshe looked forward to seeing what it was like. She walked in and when she eyed Horace she grinned and came over and took the seat beside him.
“Good to see you again,” Cara said pleased by the easy atmospher of the place and the candles on the counters. It felt like some of he places her friends had taken her too back on earth. “How did the day of introductions go,” she asked before ordering herself a dark beer.Ensign Cara Daniels-Doctor
Horace chuckled as she settled in, and ordered herself a beer. He himself was sipping on Beer in a bottle labelled Old Tillman’s. Horace turned a bit on the stool, his dark green eyes watching the doctor for a moment before he spoke, “It went as expected I guess, long meeting with the Executive Officer, Tomorrow I am on inspection detail, so I will be all over the place getting familiar with the crew and the ship, need to at least meet the Senior Ratings in each department, let them know the big dog is on the watch now. Got my things settled into my quarters, being senior has its perks, I got quarters to myself that’s nice.” he said before taking a long sip of the beer.
Horace understood long hours, they ran cadets almost ragged as medical schools ran prospective doctors, so he could only imagine the workload of Doctor Cadets. The scuttlebutt on the old chiefs network had not had anything bad to say about any of the senior officers of the Athena. Some had reputations that were a little questionable, but that was any group of people. “How was your shift?”

It was clear Horace took his job very seriously, and it seemed fitting and telling he called himself the big dog on watch. Cara wondered if his job really was to hold them accountable and keep them honest. Cara tapped a finger lightly on her cool glass of beer, always full of nervous energy.
“Doesn’t sound like a bad first day,” Cara agreed and she gave him another smile. She was a little envious of the private quarters. “I share with someone but I haven’t even met them yet since our hours are so opposite. So I guess it could be worse,” Cara replied with a grin. At Horace’s question about her own shift she only shrugged.
“Not bad just long mostly. The crew is in pretty good health other than seeing an occasional scrap or two, so mostly I spent the time looking through medical records, and correcting data. As well and taking care of equipment,” Cara said and she looked a bit disappointed she had hoped to see something amazing while she was out here but she knew not to expect too much on her fist day.
“I’m sure the Command just love hearing they have someone watchng them,” Cara said with a laugh and then clincked her glass against his bottle of beer.
“To new beginnings,” Cara pronounced and then took a sip. She felt at ease with Horace and she was glad to get to interact with the man outside of sickbay. She kept thinking about his job and what the man might be looking for.
“So what kind of things do you watch out for on your observations? Is it like a medical board review looking to make sure everything was done to the best of our ability,” Cara asked out of curiosity.
