“To be honest, I am unsure any parts of my culture are to be favored.” It was clearly sarcasm, and he grinned slightly to make it clearer that he didn’t mind discussing it further if she wanted to say something.

Jessica smacked his shoulder somewhat gently, but it still made a resounding thwap as her palm made contact. “How do you feel now?” she enquired, wondering if she should mention the feeling of being connected to him telepathically and how opportune the timing had been. In a way, she wanted to retreat into the mode of being the one asking the questions; it felt a lot safer than tackling the emotions that were swirling around inside of her.

He feigned shock and agony at her blow and laughed. “I do not think I have an answer to that…” He mused quietly. “At times, I am still overwhelmed, at times, I feel almost nothing. However, whatever strange context I’ve found from the meldings… seem to help.” Va’rek found himself hoping she’d expound on her experience, but didn’t want to push her. The moment they were having… was perfect.

Jessica giggled at his reaction despite the intensity of their conversation. Within moments of him finishing his response, the small blonde had made her way into his lap and was perched there, her head tucked onto his shoulder. “I felt something when I touched T’Pon at one point. It was… intense,” she started and then leaned her head up to look him in the eyes for a moment, not sure how to explain the experience in any more detail than that. “It felt good when I felt you, though.”

He looked into her eyes for a long moment, holding her gaze. “I felt you… You were afraid, and I couldn’t reach you any other way. So I reached out and there you were… In a way, I believe reaching for you helped me not to be lost in the chaos of the meld.”

Jessica’s deep green eyes held Va’rek’s for the moment, twinges of sadness and exhaustion flickering in them as she let herself be enveloped in his gaze. The corners of her lips upturned slightly at his words and she dropped her gaze, returning her head to its previous position snuggled on his shoulder. She breathed the scent at his neck for a moment before replying. “I was very afraid,” she confirmed, hesitantly. “It helps to know that I was able to help you in some way.” Her body seemed to calm and relax for a few moments before she murmured, “I just wish I knew where to go from here. I don’t know if I want to do this every day.”
