A few minutes after the Fenton had docked with the Bonaventure, Jonathan stepped out of the lift and onto the bridge. He had traveled pretty light to start with, and had asked one of the stewards to stow his duffle for now. Plus he wasn’t sure if the previous XO had vacated his quarters yet. Better safe then sorry.
Looking around the bridge he noticed Ari. He moved over towards her and came to attention. “Commander McKnight reporting for duty Captain.”
Cmdr McKnight - XO
[O] Bridge this is Jenkins. Lieutenant Barr had to step away, and I finished up getting the forward sensor pod switched out. Diagnostics check out, and the pod should be good to go. [O]
NL Jenkins - Sci
[O]Copy that… Thank you, Jenkins [C] Ari then settled in her chair a bit more at ease. This was what her life had been for, so she was more at ease in moments like this than in many others. “Ok, let’s start a passive sweep of the immediate area and make sure we aren’t sitting on someone right now. If clear, use sensor pod for localized scan of nebula. Let’s see what makes this beauty so spectacular and home worthy.” She glanced at the newcomer. “Commander McKnight, come with me.” She daoud then nodded to the helm, “And let me know if those sweeps show anything, please.”
She rose out of her chair and went to her Ready Room.

CO“I’m small, I’ll fit,” El said as she reached into the panel space again, this time with a replacement board. She fitted it into the slot and saw the lights come onto it, blinking first quickly then into a slower, more even display. Pulling up a scanner she reached in to take a power reading, wrestling some errant strands of hair from her eyes to be able to better see the reading. Board replaced. Power matrix upgraded, well, kind of. That should do the trick unless there is more to it. She would next check the power grid schematics to see where that led and what might be the cause of the EPS issues. That said the chief could have that in hand already.
El, Eng
OOC: Gm .. are we good? The new board lit up just fine during its diagnostics, and the upgraded power matrix was able to handle another short spike of energy running through the system. The nebula itself was causing minor disruptions in the ship’s EPS conduits and beyond that general EM surges within consoles. The comm system, including the universal translator, were relatively sensitive to the anomalies, but for the moment the upgraded board was dealing with them! Strange signals continued to come in, though, but now with the universal translator most could be automatically determined to be junk. Some, though, seemed briefly coherent, and some were even recognizable - one looked Star-Fleet, another looked like a Vulcan signal, and once again the same snippet of what seemed like morse code came over the comm system.
El gave a soft ‘yesss!’ when she saw the module handling the small spike. Still it was worrying. They were just on the outside of this nebula. Spikes could get worse when inside and the comms seemed to be more susceptible. That was probably because of the sensor equipment on the exterior of the hull that was needed to pick them up. Perhaps too there might be a matter of the comms acting as a bit of a lightning rod attracting them. There should be a way to bleed that off elsewhere especially if they knew the end points of the sensors at the hull. She’d suggest that to the Chief. There should be something they could use to shift that off and put the power into other regions or .. wait, what about using the rest of the hull? She thought of that while she tucked the instruments into her satchel and then wriggled her way up from under Sanks’ feet. “Still getting spikes but so far the updated matrix is keeping it at bay,” she reported to him. “I’ve got some ideas for the chief about some kind of fix for the system to help it.” She hooked a finger at the main screen and the nebula. “Especially if we go in there.”
Jonathan nodded and followed Ari towards the Ready Room.
Cmdr McKnight - XO
Fleet began to bring the ship forward parallel to the nebula at a slow impulse rate once They’d decoupled from the transport, keeping to barely 1/10th impulse. The movement gave the sensors a slightly better ‘view’ of the nebula, although moving at a faster rate would increase that even more.
Fleet, Helm
((My apologies, traveling and had someone post for me. Apparently they missed the XO coming in the bridge…I amended it to telling him to join me… sorry))
OOC: Just making a slight adjustment so everything lines up again.
As the Bonaventure flew near to the edge of the nebula a small ripple of turbulence shook the ship - nothing serious, but, a spike of that anomalous energy had just barely shoved the ship’s frame with magnetism alone. It was well within tolerance. As the Sensor Pod came online on B-Deck, however, the appropriate panel on the science station also lit up with new, more accurate telemetry of the nebula inside.

Kenny frowned slightly. He hadn’t been approaching the nebula. He pulled the ship away slightly, back to their initial distance, and continued to fly the Bonnie parallel to the nebula, keeping his distance.

Lt. Sanks started making notes of all the signals that were coming through and tried to sit there and interpret the messages he was receiving on the universal translator. “I’m up and running, for the most part, so I’m going to start trying to see what these transmissions are saying.” Lt. Sanks said out loud.
Lt. Sanks, Linguist.Elizabeth had arrived on the bridge just as the ‘shimmy’ happened and came out of the lift a bit off kilter. “Well, guess we know who needs to go back to piloting school, eh, Kenneth?” She smiled at the Helmsman teasing. Moving up beside Baumann, now back in Intel since her ‘disaster’ with the other security officers, she shook her head. “Thought I may be of some use to you or the Chief,” she nodded over her shoulder to the Armory Chief, “up here rather than in your office. Unless you want me there monitoring anything.” She kept her voice low so no one but Baumann would hear her. Not cause of a conspiratory thought, but more to keep from disrupting whatever was already happening that she had walked in to.
Prescott
Sec/IntelThere was a lot going on and Sanks had already reported that he was up and running so El moved to slip off the bridge back down to engineering to report to the chief.
El, Eng(Assuming discussing with XO is over)
Ari walked back on to the bridge and looked around with a smile. “I can’t leave you guys alone for a minute and you jerk the wheel too hard. Status report.” She moved to her chair to have a seat and dial up the nebula results so far, setting the front view screen to show the nebula as they skirted the edge to begin with.
Ari sat in her seat and glanced at the console. Seeing that the CSO was also on the shuttle bound for the station, she sighed and shook her head. Tapping her comm, she realized it was time to field promote someone. She and the Science Chief had been discussing promotions earlier that week, so it wasn’t a hard choice. [O]Bridge to Ferguson, please come to the bridge.[C] It was a calm voice as if nothing was wrong, but a small smile curled the corners of her lips. This was turning out to be a more interesting mission already. And they hadn’t even gotten into the mission briefing action, yet.

COBaumann kept a sharp eye on the computer, waiting for the translation of the Morse Code. His background gave him a passing familiarity with the system, but at the moment he was kicking himself for not paying more attention.
Baumann, Intel
The doors to the Bridge open, and Roger made his way inside. He noticed the Captain sitting in her seat and made his way over. He hadn’t spent too much time on the Bridge, just the occasional late night shift at the Bridge science station whenever he was assigned to it.
“You called for me Captain?” Roger asked curiously, looking around. It felt a bit as though everyone was looking at him, but he knew that was silly. Everyone was clearly working on their own tasks on the Bridge. His eyes shifted back to the Captain, awaiting her response.
