Ari’s orders had been for science to change out the current pods for the Sensor ones. There were three possible locations for fore bays and three for aft. She trusted Barr enough to choose which one of each she would use.

Naomi sighed and sat in her seat, taking a break from restocking things. She idly watched the computer screen shift through the data. It sorted each file by category and archived them rather quickly. Far more effective than an average human like herself could do, but someone reported mistakes. Now she had to keep an eye on this thing and unpack the rest of the supplies. Her eyes shifted to the digital readout causing her to push up from her console.

She walked over to the still packed crates and bent over. Opening it up, she began to dig in for several smaller packages. She paused to read the label and found the word: test tubes.

“These go into storage,” Naomi noted when she spotted other tubes on the lab table.

“Ah Naomi, good, you are here already,” Alison said as she walked in. “We’ve got to switch out the utility pods for sensor units instead. I’m hoping that we can get some good scans of the nebula we are heading towards.”

Alison was pretty excited. This is what she had left Earth for, to actually get to see some of these phenomena up close.

“We aren’t to far out from the nebula. I’m thinking if I hit the the forward bay on B-Deck, you can head towards the aft bay on C-Deck. And hopefully we will be done by the time we get to the nebula. Sound good?”

Naomi had just picked up the box of tubes and began to walk to the storage unit when she heard the hiss of the door. Her eyes turned as she caught the image of her CSO walk in and address her. She paused long enough to digest the information.

“Assuming you mean the sensors? That doesn’t sound like a too bad of an idea. Just let me finish putting these away.” She gestured over to the unit.

It didn’t take her long as she turned to the CSO.

“All right. Do you want me to contact you if I find any issues?”

“Yup,” Alison replied. “It should be a pretty quick change, the manual says 20 minutes. The idea is we switch out the utility pods to the sensor units, it will give us better definition on the short range sensors. Hopefully we’ll get some good readings of the nebula we are headed towards.”

“All right. Do I need any tools or simple commands into the computer?” Naomi asked, not really having done this exact job before.

She grabbed another set of tubes then hauled them into the storage unit. One by one, she quickly placed the while keeping her ears locked onto the conversation. Naomi might’ve not been the best with navigating the ship, but mindless stuff and a conversation were easy. It didn’t take her long to wrap up her current task before she turned to her superior.

“All the tools should be in a locker next to the utility pod, or so it says in the handbook. The idea of the pods were they should be pretty easy to plug and play.” Alison said as she flipped through a copy of the manual on the data pad she had with her.

((Apparently forgot to cross this, so doing it now… go ahead and post what you want as filler above this since it seems the bridge is about 20 minutes ahead of this thread))

About 15 minutes later, Ari’s hand came down on the console as she called to science and the pod bay, wondering where her scanners were. [O] Science, this is the bridge. We ready to begin those heightened close range scans yet?[O]

[O] Almost done Captain. It’ll be just another minute on the forward sensor pod. [O]

There was a loud clanking in the background.

[O] Make it 3 minutes Captain. [O]

Ari nodded. [O] Thank you, Barr… Bridge out [C]

[O] Bridge this is Jenkins. Lieutenant Barr had to step away, and I finished up getting the forward sensor pod switched out. Diagnostics check out, and the pod should be good to go. [O]

NL Jenkins - Sci

The Captain’s voice came back over the console. [O]Copy that… Thank you, Jenkins [C]

It would take only a few minutes for the main computer to interface with the Sensor Pod to provide additional resolution. While the pod wouldn’t allow the ship’s short-range sensors to be extended any further, it could provide much more detail and cut through more interference than the ship’s traditional sensors could handle.

While the computer was still working on interpreting the output from the newly turned-on system, Jenkins would be able to see that small bursts of energy inside the nebula seemed to come from, or at least interact with, subspace. That would give at least a partial explanation as to how some of these energy bursts were coming out of seemingly nowhere.
