SNIP
Kenny got to work silently when Pretha took over talking to Sanks, going after the heaviest accessible boxes first, with the thought that by the time they reached the end of this job, they’d be tireder, so it was best to start with the hardest stuff first. He hummed a little as he worked, focusing on finding where things went and moving them to the right places.
Lt Fleet, Helm
Naomi’s heart fluttered in her chest. A strong desire to simply kiss him rose up as she looked to him, admiring even his chirper traits. Months had made her realize how much she missed him. Her lips curled into a returning smile and her eyes softened toward him.
“Welcome back and I can see that. You also need to learn, nurses suck at lying.” A small chide for his efforts, but a chuckling edged into it.
Little did Kenny know, Naomi had called in early this morning to check on him. When the nurses had refused to wake him or give an explanation, her alarm bells went off. She thanked her days pranking her friends for this instinct.
She had been about to give into her earlier wants before Prescott chimed in with her group. For a moment, a bitterness washed over her. She wanted this to last a little longer. Instead, she just sighed then shook her.
“When we’re both off duty, we’re going to have a long talk.” She turned to follow Prescott and El, smirking mischievously.
As she stood there, listening to the other officers, her eyes noticed another person come in. Naomi thanked her stars she wasn’t late. Her eyes shot to Kenny and she shook her head.
“You earned that rank. Don’t you push it away and act like you didn’t.” She held her smile, finally moving to a crate and reading the label.
“If we look at the labels, we could have one person sort them into groups, and the rest of us put them away.” She spotted Kenneth trying to haul the stuff weighing the most, deciding to address it. Her worry could be heard in it.
“Kenneth! For the heavier stuff, we might need a cart. You just got out of a coma and I don’t want you going back into it!”
-ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci.
El pointed to a long flat box and tapped one end with a knuckle. Message boy whom El didn’t know was orbiting near and she caught Sanks’ eye. “Get the other end of this with me. Looks like it’s a console top.” She moved to the other side and wiped her hands on the bandana at her waist while she waited. “I’m El. I overheard you mention messages. What do you do?”
- El, EngElizabeth would have been a poor security officer, and worse intel officer if she had missed the exchange between Kenny and Naomi. She grabbed a small container and took it to the woman. “Naomi, right? Here, perhaps he can help you take it to the other side of the bay where the engineering stuff is being stacked.” She nodded to a large pile of larger crates and barrels near the right of the exit to the bay.
Leaning in closer, she winked. “And for the record, if I can’t see you for the next ten to fifteen minutes, I may just assume you needed a moment of personal time.” She nudged the woman slightly with a knowing smile. Whatever was between them, they needed a moment. She was inclined to let them have it. Moments like that didn’t happen often. And while she couldn’t excuse them from the work party completely, she could give them a few moments of semi privacy and peace.
Prescott
Sec/Intel(relieved)“Nice to meet you, my name is Roger, and I’m the linguist.” Roger told El as he helped her pick up the box and move it where it needed to go.
Lt Sanks, linguist“Linguist,” El said, shifting her hands on the box for better balance. Unpackaging boxes seemed a bit like a birthday. Never quit sure what might be in the wrapping. “What do you speak?” she asked. As they put the box down with a hollow thud El glanced at him and looked him over. “You don’t look like a linguist,” she commented. There were a couple of other similar looking crates. She pointed to them which were more willy nilly on the deck. “Let’s get those and put them together.”
- El, EngNoami smirked. Her eyes looked to Kenny, letting him see the mischief in her eyes and gesture. She gratefully took the box as she mouthed a thank you. The others began to introduce each other, but her mind had already drifted.
She began to walk with Kenny as she spoke. “Come on, if you insist on carrying that…”
-ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci.
Elizabeth called to El and Sanks to distract them from the other pair walking off. “Hey, guys… come gimme a hand with this.” She nodded to a rather large container she was opening.
Prescott
Sec/ Intel(rel)Before Elizabeth called to them, Roger responded to El, “I can speak, read and write majority of Vulcan and Spanish, everything else is a little more iffy, especially Klingon but I’m still studying and trying to rely less on the translators to help me.” They then went over to help Elizabeth. “Wait, what do I look like?” He asked her.
LT Sanks, Linguist.
El moved over with Sanks to where Elizabeth was referring. It looked a bit of a challenge. “You look more like a soldier,” she said. “I’ve been around them the last couple years and you’d fit in.” Inwardly she was disappointed hoping he would speak something she did. “Where do you want it?” she asked Elizabeth.
- El, Eng
Elizabeth looked at them both and laughed. “What do you look like? It’s more what we ‘all’ look like. We’re porters today.” She laughed and nodded to one of the piles for El to place the pieces. “It’s our lot till we are Department Heads.” She laughed. “Then we get to set other Junior Officers to this task while we worry about real problems.” She smiled and moved a container on her own.
