Baumann made his way to Engineering, a chip in his pocket and a form in his hand. Walking in, he saw the swirl of activity normally associated with the place kicked up to eleven. He grabbed the arm of a passing tech and said “The Chief Engineer. Where are they?” and the tech waved in a somewhat general direction and walked off. Baumann walked on, and soon found the engineer deep in the inner bowels of a piece of the ship.

“Mr. Bohannon!” he called and waited for a response.

Bohannon was working on the warp engine and head his name called. Looking down from the controls (think Trip and the Enterprise) he responded, “Someone called my name?”

Baumann looked up and said “Indeed, Mr. Bohannon. If you have a moment, I’d like to speak with you in private?”

Bohannon told the NE Ensign next to him to continue working on the warp engine and then he walked down the stairs. After finding a quiet place (if there is such a thing on a Starship) and asked, “What can I do for you sir?”

Baumann got right down to business. “Duringvthe refit and repair, some of the VIP spaces are going to be converted for use by myself and my department.” and he handed the Engineer a set of schematics. “Power draw calculations, routing, structural and access designs, and mass and weight of incoming equipment. Most equipment I have no issue with yourself and the ships Engineers reviewing, but there will be some that is classified. In those cases, I will do my best to ensure that you and your team have what information I can provide.” and the big German took a breath. “I do not want to cause you any difficulties, Mr. Bohannon. So I am trying to give as much information as early as I can.”

Bohannon looked at the officer and asked, “and just who authorized this upgrades and changes? Most of the power output needed has to be cleared through engineering and I was not made aware of ANY of these changes. No, sir, we might have to speak to the Captain about all this.”

Bohannon

“If you review the schematics provided, I believe you will find the approval comes from Fleet Engineering. But I am happy to discuss the issue with you and the Captain both. As I said, I don’t wish to make this harder than it needs to be. Shall we?” and he extended his arm, indicating the way out.

Not knowing what to think Bohannon led the way out of engineering and towards the bridge.

Baumann remained silent as they left, and when they reached the lift he allowed the CE to enter first. He also allowed him to exit onto the bridge first as well. When they got to the Ready Room door, Baumann pressed the chime and simply looked at the door, his face calm and composed.

Ari called out from inside. “COME!” She was in her chair, one leg curled under her. Her boots, as usual, were under her seat. She had iced tea in one hand, a PaDD in the other. As the door opened, she rose and set the Padd down. “Lieutenant Bohannon, Commander Baumann… how can I help you?” She offered them to sit around the table she was at.

Baumann sat and said “Thank you, Captain. Mr. Bohannon and I would like to discuss the new schematics for the Intel office, if you have the time.”

Baumann, Intel

“Certainly,” she motioned to the serving corner and headed for it. “Anyone want some ice tea or water? I have apple juice as well. Or I can send for something else if you wish.” She moved to refill her own glass as she waited for their wishes.

Her back to them, she spoke half over her shoulder. “Was there a problem? Or changes that needed to be made?”

“The problem Captain is that our intell officer only wants to give me information on these systems on a “need to know basis.” I must have full access so I can determine the power needs and the strain it will be on the ship. I understand some of the files he will get is classified, but my only concern is to keep the ship up and running at full capacity.”

OOC: Sorry I lost track of this thread. It not hard to do when you are part of several other ones. I will try and so better in the future.

“And as I explained to Mr. Bohannon, Captain, I am giving more information than I am technically supposed to for that very reason. I have provided power specifications, mass and weight calculations, where the power needs are to be sent, and the structural needs for the equipment to be secured. I simply haven’t told him what the equipment is, because that is actually quite irrelevant as the Intelligence division will be installing the actual equipment.” he said calmly. He knew the CE’s concerned were valid. If had been up to him, he would have let the man install the equipment himself… but it simply wasn’t up to him. He looked at Bohannon and said “And again, I apologize for the inconvenience. This isn’t my decision.”

Ari put her hand up to stop them both. Glancing at the Chief, she smiled. “If I said he had a box that weighed x amount of weight, and he wanted to put it on the port side of the bedroom against the back bulkehead wall. Can you tell him whether or not that’s a safe place to hold that much weight? Without know what said box did? I think you could. And if he asked you if ‘this’ amount of power could be connected to his room, you’d be able to do it. Correct? So I don’t see the issue here. The Fleet has seen it fit to give him this equipment. And to be honest, I am also willing to bet that regardless what room it’s in, it’s proportioned to fit and remain stable according to ship specs. So he probably ‘doesn’t’ have to tell you what and where. As to the power, I am sure we can accommodate whatever power he needs because again, if Fleet has sent him this equipment, his death at the hands of substandard ship specs isn’t high on their list.” She glanced at them both. “Please, between you two, you can figure this out.”

Glancing at her Intel Officer, “Baumann, keep the covers on or the crates intact, but please allow Chief Bohannon to see the layout of your equipment so that he can make the specs he needs for wiring and routing.” She glanced at the Chief Engineer. “You will please take note of the conduits that can be utilized and the new ones that will need placing.” She raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Any questions?”

Baumann inclined his head and said “Understood, Captain.” and he looked at the Chief Engineer. “The specifications give you the dimensions of the equipment to be installed. There will be a group of technicians arriving with the equipment to make the installation. I will do my best to ensure that they work with you and your team, Lieutenant. Again. I am merely the messenger. I don’t have a say in this. Just orders. But I will do whatever I can to make this work as straightforward for you as I can.”

OOC: Sorry, I was on a five day LOA and then I got sick. But, I am here now.

IC: “Thank you for understanding Captain.”

Looking over at the Intel officer he replied, “The I am only following orders (don’t shoot the messenger) would work normally, but when you mess with the power of the ship it could really mean life or death sometime. That said, I will follow orders and work with your people that best I can. I just don’t take chances when it comes to the safety of the ship.”

Baumann smiled a friendly smile and said “Absolutely. And I am certain that the Star Fleet Engineers who helped design this ship, the system to be installed, and signed off on the plans I tried to give you feel the exact same way.”

Baumann then looked at the Captain and said “Ma’am. As we all seem to be on the same page, perhaps we should get to work?”

Ari frowned and leaned back in her chair. “Do I need to put you two in sperate corners? Or perhaps have you share quarters for the duration of the task? I’m telling you now, to stop with the snide comments and backhanded acceptances. We have enough to worry about without infighting amongst my officers. Have I made myself clear?” She wasn’t often stern, but this time, she genuinely seemed miffed.

“Good… then off to work for both of you. This needs to be done asap.”

Baumann stood and nodded. “I think we can manage it without further meetings, Captain.” and he picked up the PaDD with the specs and handed it to the Chief Engineer. “I’ll have the installation team report directly to you, Lieutenant.” and he nodded once to the Captain and walked out the door.
