El didn’t like hospitals. It was mainly the smell of them. Antiseptic gone rancid. It didn’t seem to matter whether they were on a vessel or on Earth they were all the same. El crinkled her nose at the fainter but still noticeable smell there as she entered the cramped sickbay on the Bonnie. Given that she was used to the larger infirmaries at the Academies or the local hospitals this was .. squalid by comparison. But she was not here to be in the medical group but an engineer in the, albeit still cramped engineering, but nearer to her beloved engines. “Hello?” she called out. Sooner in. Sooner out.

“Hullo” A voice came from above, right above the entrance to the small sickbay a large woman for a lack of better words hanging on the ceiling, legs akimbo. Upon closer inspection, the Engineer could see that she was holding on to some sort of pull up lever and her legs were somehow managing to keep balance with little hold “Apologies” The redhead gave a strained smile, she quickly pulled her legs together and swung down, when her legs were adjacent with the floor she let go of the bar and dropped to the floor with little sound.

She took a few heavy breaths of air and studied the woman carefully “Doctor Rachel Grey” THe doctor put out a hand, her accent although Scottish was soft and clear “Welcome onboard” The Doctor was tall, very tall, unusually so, standing over a foot higher than the woman, herfit physique apparent even in her uniform.

Dr. Grey - CMO

El liked her accent. She had known some people at the British military academy there who had similar accents. She relaxed. “Thank you,” she said. “Elemirre Serinde. New engineer,” she added. Glancing up she pointed to where the doctor had been. “I hope that’s not part of the check up.” Really she was not sure what the doctor had been doing. She craned her neck up. The doctor was a tall one - perhaps the tallest she had seen, though she was not precisely considered tall at all. However, as her mother would say, height was not everything. It was a matter of whether you could keep your head when a crisis came up. “Um, I’m here for my medical clearance.” She glanced up again. “If you’re not too busy. I could come back.”

Rachel laughed, although her laugh was much more of a quiet cackle “Nay worries, pet” She turned to the side, pointing at a nearby examination bed “Have a seat there.” She looked up for a moment “I don’t always have a chance to go to our gym so I’ve tried improvising.” She moved towards the indicated bed “Elmirre Serinde” She studied the woman carefully “‘Tis a lovely name. Sino-Indo?” She asked, her first name was unfamiliar but the last name and her facial features indicated that much.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“There’s a gym on board?!” El blurted before catching herself. Then, thinking, ‘did she call her ‘pet’?’. “I’ve done the same,” she admitted as she moved to the examination bed. Turning she hopped up to rest on the edge, her danging legs swinging. “Stretches. Vinlastic bands.” But not hangy from the ceiling kind of things. She took a long breath. Doctors made her nervous. “Uh neither,” She said with a small smile forming. Though that could fit, she admitted. “Middle Earth. My mother was a raving fan of a writer from the early 20th Century. It’s supposed to be in another language. Sindarin, she told me.”

OOC: Bump

OOC: Woah, I apologize I’m not entirely sure how I missed this.
IC: Easy to do! :)
IC:
It took Rachel a moment to figure out what she was talking about, the word ‘Sindarin’ was unfamiliar to her, but a 20th-century literature language, any decent Brit was familiar with the works at least a little “Oh aye, I’ve never been one for fantasy, I did read the one with the dragon, delightful poetry there” She mused, her expression practically glazed over as she spoke. She grabbed a clunky device from a nearby tray and tapped it a few times, then proceeded to hit it several times until the screen came to life. She mumbled something incoherent and laughed under her breath. She put the device closer to the engineer and started a general medical scan “This yer first tour on a starship?” She asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

El let out a nervous chuckle. “Me neither,” she replied. “I was read them when I was young. I’m a sucker for romances myself.” She looked at the device that was having issues. “Giving you some trouble?” she asked. When the scan started it registered an increase in respiration, heart rate and blood pressure but then that was hardly a surprise with it being a check. “Yes,” she said. “Sorry, just really nervous. I’d hate to have come all this way and then get the boot for something I don’t even know about. This, this being here means a lot to me.”
El

Rachel gave the woman an encouraging smile “Nay worries, no one has been booted for nerves yet” She seemed pleased with the results “It’s a big thing going tah space, besides ye wouldn’t be allowed in here if there was something debilitating, honestly, this is mostly for me so I can have my own scans of personnel on file and so I get something ta do.” She tossed the scanner quite casually into the tray with, it hit with a loud clang “Those things are quite useful but they’re not designed for much…” She hesitated for a moment “Abuse” She smiled absentmindedly as if she was thinking of something distant. After a moment she returned back to the present “Is that a habit?” She said pointing at the Engineers fingernails.

Dr. Grey - CMO

El winced as the scanner hit the tray. It needed some padding, a plasber frame would do it. She pulled herself back at the doctor’s comment about her nails and she looked at them. They were mostly clean with a hint of grease under what was left of her nails. “Yeah,” she said, examining them and resisting the urge to nip at a spot. “Been doing that since I was a girl.”
- El, Eng

Rachel nodded, it wasn’t uncommon for people to chew their nails “Well you should stop, It’s very unhygienic and can lead to ingrown nails and infection. Also, yer teeth aren’t designed for nails” She said with a hint of a smile “Also when working with the materials you engineers do the transfer of materials from engines, hull panels, or internal mechanisms can transfer from nails to mouth.”

Dr. Grey - CMO

El glanced at them as the doctor gave her prognosis on that, a small frown crossing her lips. She had the sudden imagining of a cone around her neck that they put on animals to keep her from doing that. “I can try. I don’t even remember doing it.” They didn’t look that good, that was true. Sighing. “Any hints?” She wasn’t worried about catching anything from a panel. Her mother had been after her for chewing them as she grew up but it was something that had quickly become habit.
