Prescott smiled and pushed away from the wall. “Well, let’s get going. Everyone else has grabbed their first batch, so we’ve got time to get some of this sorted before they come back.” She headed for the most recent pile of things and started moving them into piles for the different locations; science, engineering, mess, etc…
Prescott
Sec/Intel(relieved)El was used to this sort of detail and this kind of being placed into teams. Doing this would certainly break up the day and maybe give her a few more things to cart down to the machine shop. Following Prescott she moved around and looked at the labels on it. A lot for the mess by the look of it at least in that grouping. “Looks like a lot for the mess,” she commented, wrestling a barrel around a couple of boxes. It was more awkward than heavy with the deck cluttered with other things. She did notice some frames, lathe parts and lengths of metal that would be used in it. Good.
- El, EngLt. JG Sanks came in last, after sending all the messages the CO had made him send. He went up to Lt. Fleet for his orders. “Sorry, I’m late, CO had a ton of messages for me to send to everyone on the ship. I thought I was never going to get to leave the bridge.” He said smiling as he made that joke.
Lt Sanks, linguist“Ah, I’m not the guy in charge,” Kenneth gestured to the other Lt. who’d given out the assignments. “He’s the one you wanna talk to. I’m just a helmsman with more rank than I need,” he said with a chuckle.
Pretha smiled at the linguist. “Welcome to the party. Guess you’re with us. We’re sorting that huge pile,” she pointed to the crates, barrels and tubs near the shuttle exterior door, “into separate piles based on final location.” She moved back to the pile to get another item. The bruises on her wrist and arms obvious to anyone who looked. As well as the shiner on her left cheek that was fading like the arm marks.
Pretha
Sec/Intel (relieved)Kenny got to work silently when Pretha took over talking to Sanks, going after the heaviest accessible boxes first, with the thought that by the time they reached the end of this job, they’d be tireder, so it was best to start with the hardest stuff first. He hummed a little as he worked, focusing on finding where things went and moving them to the right places.
Lt Fleet, Helm
Naomi’s heart fluttered in her chest. A strong desire to simply kiss him rose up as she looked to him, admiring even his chirper traits. Months had made her realize how much she missed him. Her lips curled into a returning smile and her eyes softened toward him.
“Welcome back and I can see that. You also need to learn, nurses suck at lying.” A small chide for his efforts, but a chuckling edged into it.
Little did Kenny know, Naomi had called in early this morning to check on him. When the nurses had refused to wake him or give an explanation, her alarm bells went off. She thanked her days pranking her friends for this instinct.
She had been about to give into her earlier wants before Prescott chimed in with her group. For a moment, a bitterness washed over her. She wanted this to last a little longer. Instead, she just sighed then shook her.
“When we’re both off duty, we’re going to have a long talk.” She turned to follow Prescott and El, smirking mischievously.
As she stood there, listening to the other officers, her eyes noticed another person come in. Naomi thanked her stars she wasn’t late. Her eyes shot to Kenny and she shook her head.
“You earned that rank. Don’t you push it away and act like you didn’t.” She held her smile, finally moving to a crate and reading the label.
“If we look at the labels, we could have one person sort them into groups, and the rest of us put them away.” She spotted Kenneth trying to haul the stuff weighing the most, deciding to address it. Her worry could be heard in it.
“Kenneth! For the heavier stuff, we might need a cart. You just got out of a coma and I don’t want you going back into it!”
-ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci.
El pointed to a long flat box and tapped one end with a knuckle. Message boy whom El didn’t know was orbiting near and she caught Sanks’ eye. “Get the other end of this with me. Looks like it’s a console top.” She moved to the other side and wiped her hands on the bandana at her waist while she waited. “I’m El. I overheard you mention messages. What do you do?”
- El, EngElizabeth would have been a poor security officer, and worse intel officer if she had missed the exchange between Kenny and Naomi. She grabbed a small container and took it to the woman. “Naomi, right? Here, perhaps he can help you take it to the other side of the bay where the engineering stuff is being stacked.” She nodded to a large pile of larger crates and barrels near the right of the exit to the bay.
Leaning in closer, she winked. “And for the record, if I can’t see you for the next ten to fifteen minutes, I may just assume you needed a moment of personal time.” She nudged the woman slightly with a knowing smile. Whatever was between them, they needed a moment. She was inclined to let them have it. Moments like that didn’t happen often. And while she couldn’t excuse them from the work party completely, she could give them a few moments of semi privacy and peace.

Sec/Intel(relieved)
“Nice to meet you, my name is Roger, and I’m the linguist.” Roger told El as he helped her pick up the box and move it where it needed to go.
