The message went out and was marked URGENT on everyone’s comms in the morning when they got up. From the linguist to all the JOs, the message rang across the ship like a silent alarm that blinked bright red when folks woke up.
“Good morning, crew.
As our refit finally starts to wind down and draw to a close, it’s that time again. All JOs are to report to Cargo Bay #3 at 1100 hours to help with replenishment. This is mandatory and all hands are required to attend. Shift Supervisors please bring duty rosters for head counts and distribution of personnel for this 15 hour revolution.
See you all there
Captain Ari Bovar
CO”The message went out just before the missive for the DH meeting.

COWhen Naomi saw that message and the format, her anxiety jumped to new heights. Then she spotted refit which made her relax. As her heart settled down, she moved toward the cargo bay. Her PADD in hand and using the map with the trick the CO taught her.
Calling all the JOs meant it was going to be crowded. She cringed at the thought as being in tight places never settled with her. It was a big negative to parties and crowded events.
I’m such a nerd. She mused at herself before she entered the room, being one of the first JOs inside.
-ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci.
Beth came in at a jog and was glad she wasn’t the last, or the first, one there. She saw Naomi and smiled and nodded. “Hi, I’m Elizabeth. Security flunky. So any idea what’s going on? Is this a regular thing?” Her eyes were entirely too bright and she had too much energy to be ‘right’ at this time of the morning. But to her she seemed her usual self and never understood how others weren’t morning people.
Despite her bubbly morning personality, there were hints of things amiss. She had a black eye that was a few days old and her short sleeve uniform showed several bruises up her arms and clear hand prints in the form of bruises around the base of her wrists. The bruises had started to turn dark purple from the deeper almost black they had been the day before, but it was obvious they were still relatively fresh.
Lt Elizabeth Prescott
Security/Intel
(temp relieved of duty)El didn’t have to jog in though another ensign had ran past her as she had neared the Bay. The ship was huge, but not that huge that she couldn’t walk from engineering, down a deck and to the Bay. 11:00 was almost lunch so either they were going to have a short work of it or they would be bringing in bag lunches. El slipped in not far behind Prescott, wiping her hands off on the polka dot bandana she had at her hip. A small streak of grease graced her cheek. Catching the introduction she realized she’d seen her in the galley but that was it. Thus far El had kept to herself. She did, however, notice bruises and the black eye and wondered what fight she had lost. She did hear ‘Security’. Training maybe? She liked it rough? Who knew. Father said there were all kinds of people out there and to not judge. El always had trouble following that though.
“Hi,” she said. “I’m El.” Looking at Elizabeth she said, “boy they really train you hard in security.”
Looking about she took in things. “If they want us all here we’re probably part of a bucket line of bringing in supplies.” She shrugged. The machine shop where she had been organizing had been sparse so this made sense.
- ElPrescott looked at El and shrugged. “Nah, just some sparring got out of hand. It’s all fine.” She said and moved back towards the wall. She knew it was going to be a long day.
Prescott
Sec/Intel(relieved)“Oh,” El replied. Did she say something wrong? Again. She looked to Locke for some rescue. “I’m just new in. Is there some kind of initiation that goes on on the ship for new people?” she asked. It had been hinted that it might happen. It did in other units, though her last experience was with an old British academy and they were very traditional and very much into ‘tradition’. They said to expect a lot of tradition with ships.
- El, EngA nearby NE shook his head and nodded to Prescott. “Nah, don’t mind her. Seems she had her ass kicked and got in trouble for it.” He sneered. “Couple security officers are in trouble for it. One’s in the brig! Guess she isn’t Klingon in her love of foreplay.” He laughed and walked towards another small group of folks a few feet away.
NE Lawson
EngineerKenny slipped into the Cargo Bay and smiled quietly, spotting faces that were new and old, but one in particular that he recognized dearly. He knew she’d be here, but it was still nice to see her in person. Best part was, she was facing away from the door.
Suddenly, the young Lieutenant overheard an Engineering Ensign talking shite about one of the other officers. He stepped over to Lawson and gave him a stern glare, distracted from his quest by the clear disrespect of another person. “We didn’t have that kind of talk about when I was in charge of Engineering, Lawson,” he said in a low voice, just loud enough for the man and his group to overhear, but not quite loud enough for the women to overhear. He had a different uniform and haircut from before his accident, so hopefully the surprise wouldn’t be spoiled for Naomi.
Lt. Fleet, Helm
Lawson turned around and shook his head. “You just come back and already up in everyone’s business, Fleet? You don’t even know what’s going on. Prescott has been sparring with Jensen for quite some time. But now, suddenly, she’s crying ‘assault’? Yeah… they break up and he’s the one in the brig.” He shook his head and turned back to his friends. “Go see your girl friend. I’m sure whoever she’s been with this last six months won’t mind stepping aside.” The group laughed and wandered off.
NE Lawson
EngineerKenny frowned. “Bruises are never OK, Lawson. No matter what the story. Remember that. I thought our society had moved past that kind of toxicity.”
He stepped away from Lawson and his cronies, slipping over and approaching Naomi. Then someone entered and started reading off the teams. Spoiling the surprise.
Just then, a Lieutenant walked in. His voice easily bellowed over the conversations in the bay. “All right, ladies and gentlemen! Let’s get this started so you can go back to whatever nothings you were doing before. We have cargo coming from the station and it all needs puttin’ away. So here’s the list of teams, get with your team leaders and let’s get things going. With any luck, we’ll be outa here in a couple hours!” He then began to read off the teams. As each team was read, the list was posted on the screen behind him where flight schedules usually were.

IC: Naomi turned to the security officer that spoke to her, her eyes caught the bruises and she froze in place. Unwanted memories flickered across her mind as she stumbled over what to say. Thankfully, an engineer officer addressed the topic. She snapped herself from the shock by shaking her head clear. Her crossed arms slacked then fell to her sides while she listened closely to their exchange.
At the mention of a simple sparring match causing all that damage, her stomach soured. Her arms clutched her middle in reaction. She didn’t notice the look that El gave her until too late.
The moment Lawson spoke, her expression scowled and she shot a venomous glare at him. While she didn’t say much, Kenny entered and took arms in the fight. She mumbled under her breath then looked at Elizabeth.
“Name’s Naomi Locke. Science department.” She introduced each of them, spotting Kenny return to their side.
Introductions ended shortly as the person in charge waltzed in. With a quick assignment of tasks and teams, he left them to their own devices once more.
“Don’t worry, I know that creep. Lawson. Kay wanted to smack him a month ago over his slimy comments. I think I’ll whip up some itching powder and slip some into his next wash.” A mischievous glint entered her eyes then walked to read the teams.
OOC: All right, want the four of us in a single team? I wouldn’t mind having Noami getting to know more about the new faces.
-ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci.
“Hey, Nomi,” Kenny said with a sweet smile, soured slightly by the bad taste left in his mouth from his interaction with Lawson. “Surprise!” He did jazz hands and grinned slightly. “I’m back on the ship!”
“And lastly, Lt. Fleet, Ensign Prescott, Ensign Locke, and Ensign El.” The lieutenant finished his list.
Lt. Fleet, Helm
The assignment for the four of them was to sort the incoming crates, barrels and other items into to the stacks for where they needed to go.
Prescott smiled and pushed away from the wall. “Well, let’s get going. Everyone else has grabbed their first batch, so we’ve got time to get some of this sorted before they come back.” She headed for the most recent pile of things and started moving them into piles for the different locations; science, engineering, mess, etc…
