Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻Prescott couldn’t sleep. Hell, she was having trouble breathing. Her roommate had finally given up trying to console her and had gone to spend the night in her own boy friend’s room. Beth had cried herself sick then sore. Her ribs, legs, arms, even her cheek, were covered in bruises and hurt from a day of sparring gone bad. She, Jensen and Patersen, along with other students till the last hour or so, had had a good night. The last hour had been a nightmare, in hindsight. The trouble was, at the time, it had merely been a bit more annoying than usual.
So here it was, shortly after 0100 and she was stepping into medical in her work out gear. In loose fitting sweat pants and a crop top hoodie, she had her arms crossed and looked around to see who was on duty. Visible were the shiner on her left cheek and eye, blatant finger prints around her wrist and several strike mark bruises on her arm. She was limping slightly, favoring her left side and she had obviously been crying so hard she looked almost gaunt. Eyes, normally bright and cheerful, were shallow and dark. Whatever had occurred, it had taken its horrible toll on her.
Lt Elizabeth Prescott
Security (formally Intel)The lights in Sickbay were dimmed due to the late hour of the ships onboard time but that rarely stopped it’s Chief Medical Officer. It was theorized that she had rarely if ever stayed in her own quarters as no one had actually seen her enter or exit it. When the doors opened she rose from one of the examination beds where she had been taking a well-deserved nap. She shook her head to clear her thoughts and rubbed her eyes to get a clear look at who entered the Sickbay. After a moment her eyes closed in on the Armory Officer. As the Bonnies doctor, she knew the face, name, and medical record of each of the fifty-something crew members. Prescott, Elizabeth, Lieutenant within the Armory Division, now apparently working with the German.
Rachel immediately jumped to her feet as she saw the slight wincing as the woman took her steps and in only two steps was next to her. She threw something from her hand at a nearby panel and the lights were raised by approximately 15%. The towering woman started with a visual examination, the injuries were far beyond regular training injuries. This was violence performed in anger, she knew the signs, the defensive wounds the black eye, and the limp. Her normally dazed expression was replaced with a focused look. Her hands twitched as her instincts told her to grab the Officer but she stopped herself, knowing from experience that unnecessary touching was potentially more harmful “Come” She said softly indicating to the central examination bed “Have a seat” Her tone professional and confident but gentle.

Prescott moved in silence till she was seated on the indicated bed. “It wasn’t an attack, Doc. I promise,” she said first thing. “Bad judgement call, but not an…” She sighed and looked down at her hands which were rubbing absently back and forth on top of her thighs. “Ok, it was an attack. But I don’t t… I didn’t realize it at the time.”
Beth sniffed and looked up. “One of the security officers, a friend, and I were sparring. At least, I thought we were. It turns out it was more than that and I failed to see it.” The blame was heavier on her shoulders than her pain. “I thought I was helping him. No one else thought he was vicious, and I didn’t look beyond wanting to help.” She took a deep breath. “Anyway, here it is.” She lifted her hoodie off to show a sports tank top. Once removed, the two side punches to the ribs and a bruise on her right hip and lower back showed she had been hit, then had landed hard against something. Sliding off her sweat pants to reveal lycra shorts, the two bruises on the top of her thighs were visible as well.
“I’ve been relieved of duty for my short sightedness. And the sparring partner” the title said almost venomously, “is in the brig awaiting Court Marshall. Turns out he is a bully and, well, he’s taken care of.” She went silent and sat there awaiting another tongue lashing and lecture on poor judgement. In her mind, it was worth it to just get it all out of the way so she could heal and start training. She may be permanently booted from Intel, but she’d go down swinging.

Relieved of DutyA soft crack sounded from around Rachel’s waist. She quickly moved her hand away from there and apparently tossed a broken piece of tech into the corner “please lie down” She told the woman and moved to the computer panel “I’m going to take some detailed scans, it’ll only take a few moments. I want you to tell me exactly what injuries you’ve suffered, what exactly happened in that fight” She paused to look at the Lieutenant “And who it was that relieved you of duty” She had a soft smile but her eyes remained as focused.

The last answer was the hardest, so she managed to choke that one out first. “Commander Baumann relieved me, Ma’am, for three weeks.”
As she lay on the table, she sighed. “We were just sparring, so bruises on my legs and thighs, you can see the marks on my arms, and the wrists are because me got me pinned. My left ribs hurt from a kick, but I’m sure it’s… ” she sighed. “No, it’s not fine… it hurts.” Her eyes started to well up with tears. Finally she had to confess because in her mind she could see Baumann’s disappointment in her covering again.
“It wasn’t sparring. At least, to him. I honestly thought it was. I was beat up, plain and simple. And apparently I’m relieved because I allowed it to happen. The kick to my ribs was harder than it should have been and the bruises on my thighs and wrists were from him pinning me down. The black eye is from a head butt from him because I spit in his face when he made a pass at me while I was beneath him.” It all tumbled out and she closed her eyes, more upset and mad at herself than at what Jensen did to her. She had thought a year ago she was helping him. She hadn’t seen it escalate because she hadn’t wanted to think herself a failure. Now it had come to a head, backfired and she was a failure in more ways than one.

NE Intel (relieved)Rachel punched in the command to send the bed into the scanner. Before she administered any pain relievers she needed to see the extent of the internal damage. Kickin someone whilst their down was far more dangerous than most people realized. The fact that she was still standing and not apparently coughing blood was a good thing. “Well” It was a good thing the young officer couldn’t see Rachel, she was positively seething. Relieved for ‘allowing’ an assault to happen, that was some of the most macho bull… She stopped herself, now was the time for cold clinical objectiveness. She could yell at the German chauvinist later.

Beth sighed and laid still as the diagnostic happened. She closed her eyes and tried to imagine what would happen to her now, professionally and personally, with Baumann. If he had relieved her of duty, chances are she had lost her shot at being his comfort anymore, either. And the fact he had given her three weeks to get fit enough to knock him on his backside seemed almost like a joke. She had no chance, in three weeks anyway, to take down the Commander. Short of shooting him, she would never land him on his backside.
Her thoughts were interrupted as the Doc spoke. “Well… what?” she asked with concern in her voice. Surely it was just a couple bruises… right?

Sec/Intel (relieved)Rachel studied the results “Yer lucky, a kick like that to the ribs could’ve broken one, dislodged a bone an’ pierced an organ” She said with a frown “You have several bruised ribs, a few more pounds of pressure and you would not be speaking to me” She took a knee next to the woman, still being relatively close to eyesight “I have some dermal salve I’d like to apply and I’ll give you some pain relievers” She stood up and walked to a nearby cabinet, opened it and remove a metal canister, sh also picked up a large hypospray and a vial from another cabinet. She returned and placed the items on a nearby tray “Lie still whilst I administer the salve”
She put on some single-use gloves and put some of the blue goo in her hands, rubbing them together slightly. She then started applying it to the woman’s bruises “Usually Starfleet doctors carry mostly Earth medicine on our ships but upon reading the results doctor Phox had on the Enterprise with his various live treatments using alien fauna and flora I’ve requested as much of the similar… life to be here.” She explained as she rubbed it gently across the bruises “Three weeks is an odd timeframe lieutenant, far too long for you to heal and an investigation should not take that long, why three weeks?” She asked.

She winced slightly and gripped the edge of the bed to hold still. “Because in three weeks I have to knock Commander Baumann on his backside. That’s my test to return. Three weeks to figure out how to lay out a man with probably more combat skills than I could possess in a life time.” She sighed. “I just don’t know how I’m gonna lay him out with only three weeks to prepare. I mean, short of shooting him.” She laughed and bit her tongue. “Yeah, probably shouldn’t admit I’m willing to shoot an officer, huh?” she grinned at the woman.
“And as to the bruises, trust me… it’ll never happen again. Not like this, anyway.” She sighed and closed her eyes letting the cool gel work on her.
