El had arrived. At last She could almost ‘feel’ the power coursing thorough the ship, although she knew that was only her overly fertile imagination. The ship was, after all, on station. She shifted the ‘sea bag’ over to her other shoulder, rumpled and used, and which had belonged to her father. This was her first real step onto a starship. The sundry schools she had studied at did not hold out much hope for anyone having a ‘real’ space posting. El was one of the lucky ones. Bryce had one, though that was as a shuttle pilot between Earth and the moon base. In short, he drove bus. But El would drive this. Figuratively speaking.

Winding her way toward Engineering where she was going to meet with her boss first, El took in the angle of the corridor and breathed in the recycled air that, to her, had a tinge of copper to it. “Bohannon,” she said to herself. That was his name. The small office wasn’t hard to find, really, and, with only one brief stop to admire the ‘Cochrane’. Oh it had since been more or less renamed to ‘Warp Core’ but Cochrane was far more romantic of a name. She knocked at the door. “Hello?” She called out.

From underneath a work area came the voice of Bohannon. “Yes, can I help you?”

Her thin brows bent as she craned her neck to see the source of the voice. It sounded muffled. Was the person okay? Had their been a mutiny? Oh that would be glorious! And so romantic. “Hello? Are you okay?” she called out. “I’m Elemirre. I’m .. I’m new here.” She slid her sea bag off her shoulder to the deck beside her. One hand still held the bag upright.
