Things appeared to going well until the Bane ship arrived. As the CO called the shuttle back, Naomi monitored the Bane ship’s approach. When the deck blared the alarm and flashed red, her heart began to race and her breath became short. Calm down… Calm down… She pleaded at herself as she continued to focus on her current task. It seemed to work for now, but she didn’t know for how long.

(((OOC… just a hint, Bane ship is inside with us… enemies of Bane AND us are approaching in those three ships))

[O]Understood Captain. We need just a couple more minutes.[O] She said as she maneuvered her way toward the Bane “Everyone let’s go. Move move move.” She said as she heard the sound of atmosphere escaping. She pushed people onto the ship as she stepped onto the Bane. She finally had a chance to look behind her “Let’s move people don’t stop to talk. We can talk later.” She ordered, her voice carrying over the din. [0}Captain, we have everyone as far as I can tell. The Bane is clear to leave. [0] She said hoping that no one had gotten left behind. She looked out the small window as the door slid shut, if anyone was still on the sphere, it was too late. She swallowed down the feeling of uncertainty. This was an emergency situation and people would die, more would die if they didn’t leave now.

MACO

Ari sighed, unaware she and the MACO were of the same mindset. Opening the channel to the Bane, [O]Bane… run when you’re ready. We’re right behind you.[O] She hoped…

[O]Docking right now Captain. [O]

It seemed like only moments after the communications that the First City hull shattered. Shards as large as the Bonnie broke off and came at both Bane’s ship and the Bonnie like gigantic daggers as they were pulled into the Black hole. Portions of the interior came with it confusing space with bulkheads, bridges, furniture and more. Bane’s ship, closer to the City could be seen pummeled by pieces and for a time lost visibility with it but it could be seen tumbling along with the shards and pieces of the City.

Such pieces were also approaching the Bonnie as well … there were too many to maneuver around. If they chose to flee they would still encounter some of the wave of incoming pieces.

[o] I see them. By my estimates they are focusing on my position. They may not be interested in you. I might .. [c] came a communication from Bane that was cut off.

[O]BANE![O] Ari hollered into the comms as they lost communications. It was strange to feel fear and anxiety over a superior alien race. And for a moment it had even escaped her he was carrying most of the sphere’s occupants. For some reason, she was worried about the Bane. But it was fleeting and all the rest of the souls were suddenly part of the dread as well.

“Shields full. Get us out of here helm! NOW!” She hoped the shields would hold long enough to get them out of here. “Fast as we can without blowing ourselves up, please!!!” The rise in the timber of her voice giving rise to the urgency.

Suddenly the doors seemed impossibly far away.

The Bonnie veered around to evade the incoming shards. Proximity alas was against her and before she escaped the ship was pummeled. Shields deflected the smaller pieces. Others battered the hull like hail on a tin roof. Just a moment before clearing the hail a thick section of the hull clipped the starboard nacelle wrenching the ship around, throwing the crew as inertial compensators screamed. Suddenly caught up in the ‘mix’ the ship tumbled toward the black hole.

Like everyone else on the ship, Ari was tossed. Her body slamming against the brace rails. She curled up but it wasn’t enough time. The back of her rib cage took the brunt of it. She lay there a second trying to catch her stolen breath, then yelled, “ALL ENGINES FULL.. GET US OUT OF HERE!” There were tears in her eyes as she tried to reach others to be sure they were ok. Glancing up to be sure someone was actually ‘at’ the helm.

The person at the helm managed to crawl back up into the chair and slap at the controls. “Sluggish!” he called as the ship was hit by another piece … but slowly the ship pulled out from the debris zone ..

On the screen they could see the huge city spheres being pulled apart and caught in the gravity. In the midst of this they could just see Bane’s ship limping out looking worse for wear. They could see three places where the ship had been pierced by sections of the city shrapnel.

Alison came out of the lift holding her left arm tight to her side. She had jammed it into the side of the lift when the shift suddenly tumbled. She could still move her arm, so it wasn’t dislocated, but it was definitely going to leave a large bruise.

She moved over behind Naomi, this was not looking good.

Ari managed to stand up, her right arm crossed over her stomach, pressing on the pain on the side of her left rear rib cage. “We can do this, try and maneuver between the dropping spheres and the door, maybe we can use the slight null zones to give us a boost.” She watched the Bane ship and bit her lip. So many souls… some of them from the Bonnie. She desperately hoped they would get out. But her first priority was the Bonnie. Regardless what any Captain said, today was not a good day to die.

She had tears in her eyes from pain and fear and it didn’t even seem to register. Moving to the front of the bridge, she grabbed the back of Helm’s chair and shook her head wishing them faster as she murmured, “Just a little further… a little faster… just past the doors, stars above and below… please just let us get past the doors.” Her prayer mantra echoing over and over in the siren deafened room. At this point, even the collision klaxons weren’t phasing her.

OOC: Oh where’s the fun in that? <G>

[0]Captain we’re onboard. We have take some damage, but emergency bulkheads are holding.[0]melissa’s voice was curt. It was hard to tell if it was pain or just plain military drilling that was coming through.

MACO

The Bonnie picked up some speed and cleared the ‘debris field’. The trio of ships incoming totally bypassed them as they pushed on toward the huge bay doors that were closing. It was going to be close at their particular acceleration ..

Behind the three closed in on Bane’s ship. In advance, from each of their ‘bellies’ a sparkling cone shot out and illuminated Bane’s vessel. Sensors would show it was a kind of scanner. And .. they let it pass ..

As the ships raced to the entrance, one of the transports engines failed and fell back toward the black hole .. but the others still kept on. Bane’s vessel labored but was catching up to the Bonnie. In what was a ‘close shave’ spatially speaking, the Bonnie and Bane’s ship ‘just’ made it out with what was merely several ship lengths to spare, closing behind them shortly thereafter.

Naomi barely remembered her actions during the adrenaline rush of the escape. She didn’t know how, but she managed to not smack her head when she tumbled from her seat. Any more damage to her skull, she doubted she could stay conscious. Inhaling deeply, she scrambled back into her seat and took the controls.

The ride had been jarring to say the least as she stayed near her console. Fortunately, it didn’t blow up in her face.

When the realization of their status wash over her, Naomi’s arms crossed, and she buried her face into them. She breathed in then out. Letting the rest of her fearful energy pass through her body.

“I think… I need very strong drink after this.” She said it loud enough for everyone to hear.

Ari almost cried when they cleared the doors of the sphere. “REAR VIEW!” She snapped the second they had cleared the door. “Did the Bane make it?”
Seeing the Bane behind her, she wanted to do nothing more than collapse.

She gave orders to set them on course for a planet beyond the white dwarfs they had found compatible before they had entered the sphere. She then sent the crew out as reliefs arrived from the various other departments. Making sure everyone got to medical to get checked out.

In between people coming and going, she sent a comm to the Bane asking if he was all right, and if everyone was ok there.

The voice came in Ari’s voice like it had since Bane had come aboard and taken her form. [o] As far as I can tell those who came over are yet well. Your officer aboard may be better informed. [c] The tone sounded .. tired. [o] I have sustained damage however can still match your speed. [c]

The trip was not a short trip. It took a couple of weeks to travel that distance to find a planet that was habitable. Through it the Bonnie sounded like she needed some TLC with the engine that took the smack from the debris, though Bane’s ship was worrying. His speed was not consistent and while the ship did not fall behind it appeared more like a tired puppy who had bursts of speed then slowly fell behind. However, they did make it and orbit was made. It was mostly desert with some ice at the poles but a very temperate region with small seas at the equatorial region. When they arrived Bane’s ship made a slow, labored landing on the planet in an open area by one of the seas.

Over another few days, the Bonnie and Bane helped to settle folks. Ari made sure all her people were seen to medically, the MACO being a special interest to her. Ari sustained a couple cracked ribs, but was soon mended enough to function, albeit a little sore, by the time the reached their destination.

When everyone was settled, Ari had invited Bane to the Bonnie for a final dinner. It only seemed appropriate since that was how they had started. She invited the staff and The Linguist and her Science officer Naomi since they had been so integral to the rescue.

Alas, this was a bittersweet tale. Most of the inhabitants of the Dyson Sphere who were looking ahead to only an extinction event probably sooner than later were rescued and transported to another new world. Some did not make it, and the mysteries within the sphere and of its long history were for another time.

As the inhabitants moved out from the Bane ship, pioneers all of them now, sought to center themselves and create shelters and discover this new home and new adventure - the one of hope rather than despair. Almost forgotten in this excitement was Bane’s ship, who, technically was Bane itself. One transmission Bane made to the Bonnie still in the eerily similar voice to the captain. The tone was strained. Pained. [o] I came to you suspicious of your contact with the Arrhyah. Thank you for showing yourself .. good, and letting me join in this last good. Farewell. [c] After that his ship .. dissolved, leaving behind only the shards of the city that had pierced it.

Meanwhile, forgotten in all the tumult, a small ‘top-like’ vessel no larger than a satellite spun on a course within the Sphere on a straight course for the black hole. With a small psychic sigh the Arrhyah disappeared within.
