Her next comm was to the shuttle team. [O] Ari to shuttle. If you guys are safe to land, do so. Find the nearest city leader. I need head counts and transportation abilities asap. Their technology is failing. If we’re unable to fix it soon, we may need to get out as many as we can. [O] The order came with a great undertone of pain, and the realization that if things got bad quickly, they may not be able to save everyone.

“I need everyone’s full attention on this. We’re may need to evacuate that sphere to the best of our abilities. I need everyone on alert, ready to deal with this. Take us to Red Alert. I need everyone awake and on this now.” She didn’t like any of this one bit. The idea of leaving some behind killed her. But abandoning them all just wasn’t an option.

[O]Understood Captain. I am with one of the security officers now. Dr. Blackwell will start working on injuries. We’ll keep you updated[O] What Ari didn’t understand was that Melissa didn’t believe in leaving people in danger, unless she had read Melissa’s file…which was quite colorful....

“Captain, I’m scanning their anti-grav units. Two failed. The network reestablished itself but it is carrying a greater load needing more power to keep the pull from the black hole at bay. With each failure the life span of the others decreases,” reported the science ensign. “The anchor that held the primary sphere in is at a critical point as well.” Then, in a low voice. “I hope the away team finds a home fast.”

[O]Captain, we have cracks forming in the interior of the sphere.[O] She said as she ran along [O]I am on my way to talk to the leader that is here. Once I am there, I will get back in contact with you. [O]

Ari watched the logistics come to her attention and sighed. Fixing the sphere didn’t seem an option anymore. Shaking her head, she closed her eyes a moment and responded to Melissa. [O] Get all the info you can… seems we may be evacuating the sphere rather than fixing it… at least for now. [O]

Her next comm was to the shuttle. [O]Ari to shuttle… you guys need to reach out to whatever leaders you can and see what they sphere has by way of evacuation ablities. I’m hesitant to bring the Bonnie into the sphere but we we see how close we can get for transporters. But I’ll be honest. I don’t think we can hold everyone. So we need to see what other options there are. [O] She nodded to the helm. “I need a full accounting of the spaces available in cargo and empty bays. Need to know right away how many lives we can put on the ship and how many need other ships off our bow till we figure out what we are going to do to save these folks. All suggestions welcome!”

Being a science officer made Ari wonder what they could do to stabilize the hole to let these folks keep their home. The Fleet Officer in her knew they should back off and not interfere. But the human in her, and the consciousness she knew her crew possessed, wasn’t going to let you walk away without trying to save as many souls as she could.

Ari sighed in relief to hear the shuttle had made it. [O] Be safe and don’t get too far from the shuttle. I don’t want to have to explain how I lost part of my crew to a ship with a black hole in its center, [O] she tried to make light of it. But she doubted it came out more than a mildly panicked plea to come back safely.

Isaac Entered the bridge after he stepped off the turbo lift. He went to his Consol at the tactical station and looked around.

“How is every one doing”

Lt. Isaac Black (CTO)

Ari glanced up as Isaac arrived. “We’re doing well, Mr. Black… please take a seat and see if you can get me a reading on the sphere please. We need to know what kind of timeline we are looking at for this collapse or if there is a way to prevent it.” She knew it was a long shot but they had to try. There was an entire civilization that may depend on it.

“Maybe we can do a power transfer get some power into the spheres structural integrity and maybe we can give their systems a little jumpstart or we can use the phase cannons and try welding the holes close Follow the cracks and hopefully we can sell up enough holes and cracks for the structure integrity to stabilize or for us to get the people out of their”

Ari nodded. “The exterior is fine and we can’t maneouver inside to shore anything up. Most of the damage inside is from missing pieces, at this point. Not just tears. As to jump starting the deterioration of a black hole… I admit I never heard of such a thing, but you are welcome to definitely see if there is something to that… theoretically of course…” It was a long shot… long as in no one she knew had ever tried to ‘kick start’ a black hole. Make one to study, sure… but keep one from collapsing? This was going to be interesting from a scientific standpoint, to be sure.

Scans would show absolutely no structural integrity field. It was a constructed, albeit reinforced, sphere of a consistency that mixed a transparent aluminum with other alloys. While not glass, and not therefore breakable, it was old and the metal mix fatigued, thereby causing the cracks and loss of stability. Sensors would suggest a possible quick breach if another anti-grav unit failed, though on its own with the forces impacting it from the outside (aka the black hole) it could well breach on its own inside of hours. Or not.

“ Sir if this fear doesn’t have a structural field we can make one we can use the deflector to shoot a small energy wave that will keep the sphere together and keep it from falling apart“ He said check in his calculations most of the information seems to check out.

Ari pondered for a moment. “Keep that thought in mind, Lieutenant. But right now I’m hesitant to send any energy in that direction till we know what the possible repercussions are. We need to see about getting those folks out swiftly or …” She frowned at the idea of the collapse becoming so dire it drew the whole station in.

“Mr Black… I want you to do a scan of the entire sphere. Find the largest intact section that can sustain atmosphere and see if there is a way to seal it off from the rest of the sphere. Maybe we can’t stop the collapse or the egg cracking. But maybe we ‘can’ keep a section large enough to maintain some kind of ship, of sorts, for the survivors.” Another long shot, but part of a sphere was better than none… right?

“So seal off a area and expander our shields to make a life boat right sir” Isaac did as he was told and scanned the structure “ there are a few area that has magnetic locks that will seal the room off sir”

=^=Bonnie this is Tafoya. There are several thousand people on the sphere. THey have multiple ships that can help transport, but we are going to need the Bonnie to make sure everyone gets off.=^= As she listened to the klaxon sounding =^=We are going to have to move quickly. This is a mass evacuation and people are already starting to panic.=^=

((Anyone with ideas is welcome to pipe up… Ari is out of ideas on how to keep a black hole from collapsing… she’s now thinking evac and possible inner sphere living for the survivors…))

=^=Roger, Tafoya… let’s see how many we can get into space as quick as we can. Bonnie is standing by with what transporter capability we can manage. But at this distance and with the interference of the sphere, I’m not sure how much good it will do. All shuttles have been scrambled to help with evac.=^=

“All right folks… this is it… any last ideas?” She had the feeling they were out of ideas at this point. She just hoped they could save enough to save the culture.

“Sir it may be risky but according to what I am picking up from the scan this systems are failing one after another like a domino I was thinking what if we would remove the next domino to stop them from falling into each other” he said still scanning.

Scans would show that while the sphere shell was cracking per se it was likely to be stable enough to not progress to any critical sense unless they lost another of the gravitic repulsors. That was the good news. The bad news was that even if the shell was not going to crack, a repulsor failure would risk pulling the sphere totally off its moorings and plummet it into the black hole. That was the good news. The bad news was that by all appearances two of the repulsors were showing signs of instability after their auto-arranging.

One of the remaining delegates who did not go down to the surface spoke up. “There are not enough vessels to evacuate everyone. And to go where? But .. maybe, if the other spheres sent help.” He didn’t sound very hopeful. “We don’t … get along.”

“Wait! What?” Ari glanced up forgetting some of the delegates were still around. “There are other spheres? Why didn’t anyone SAY anything?!” Her ire was evident and she was about to reel when she closed her eyes and took a moment.

After she had calmed down enough to keep her voice barely steady, she glanced at the speaker. “There are other spheres? Where and how do we reach them. Friends or not, you all depend on one another… apparently… so we need to reach out… NOW!”

The remaining delegates looked at each other, slightly confused, but also somewhat sheepish. “Second City is a smaller, distant city sphere. He glanced at one of the others. He represented the ‘free spheres’. They are a broad collection of smaller spheres not unlike Dal’s home sphere. Given that many raid the other .. especially first city we don’t get ..” he was cut off as Ari slapped the console.

While awaiting the man’s answer, she slammed her hand on the console closest to her. [O] Tafoya… I want to know EVERYTHING the admin knows about the other spheres and I want to know now. Their survival depends on it… and don’t sugar coat it![O] She turned back to await the delegate’s response.

Isaac started to scan for everything and anything. Not knowing what’s going to pick up.

=^=I apologize Captain. I am attempting to get that information for you. Smele has several ships that can help evacuate people. We’re trying to get that going. I will keep you updated. I have made it very clear to the Administrator what needs to happen.=^= Melissa said =^=If you have an idea how to speed things up then I am open. I am working as fast as I can here.=^= Melissa spouted off, aware of the danger and wanting to get off the sphere as much as anyone else.

The ‘other’ spheres did show up in scans. Like Dal’s very small clan sphere there were others dotted about not unlike widely spaced farm homesteads on the prairie. Nothing at all that would compare with First City. However they might, the closest that the scans might come to for a ‘Second City’ was a small village of clan spheres.

Comms would pick up a low frequency message from First City - a repeating short message not unlike an SOS.

Isaac was looking at his scans “ Sir I would not recommend using the transporter because the center of the complex is right above their black Hole generator and that thing is unstable as it is will be very dangerous if we were treating them with that thing going crazy the way it is” he said as he continued his scans trying to find a solution to this problem.
