Rachel chuckled rather manically as she moved to a cabinet and grabbed a few things from nearby shelves “Not Quite dearie” She put the assortment of items down, first grabbing the contact lens and placing it in a small receptacle and pouring a clear liquid into it, cleaning it thoroughly before placing it on a tray in reach of the Scientist “Whilst these scanners are good we haven’t quite mastered the medical sciences” She took a small tube and poured a blue gel onto her fingertips “A little Cooling blues, unless you want to hold a cold steak to that bruise all night” She raised her hand offering “Also out of curiosity, have ye never considered a more permanent fix for those big brown peepers?”

Dr. Grey - CMO

Naomi gave the CMO a look. It mixed confusion and worry into one expression as she held out her contact lens. The eye that still held tone followed the woman through the small space. She gave a sigh when she heard an unwanted answer that resulted in no. She felt the contact pulled from her finger and slipped into a receptacle with a cleaning fluid.

She gave a long sigh at the mention of the scanners, then she nodded. Her finger smeared the blue gel onto her fingers and applied it to her eye. Moment the cold sensation hit, she hissed as she rubbed it in lightly. Her eyes looked to Dr. Grey then spoke bluntly.

“Yes, I have, but between paying for school loans and other issues… it is really slow in the savings department.” Naomi couldn’t look Dr. Grey in the face when she spoke of other issues. In truth, a good chunk of her earning still went to her mum. She had hoped one day, the woman would open her eyes and leave her father. A pointless hope, but it was something she couldn’t let go of.

Rachel chuckled, well, in reality, she cackled like some sort of witch out of amusement, some days the cackles could be heard across the deck to the amusement of the human crew and absolute confusion of the aliens onboard. “Oh yes, I was afraid that was the case. Well, you needn’t worry, Starfleet does sponsor certain medical procedures if they are deemed necessary by the medical officer in charge of said personelle, if you want I can contact Earth and get some paperwork started, see if there ain’t something we can’t do.”

“All right, you’re reminding me of a Saturday morning cartoon villain now.” Naomi bluntly stated, leaning away a bit. She wasn’t sure if she should considering the woman’s offer or exit before a witch’s brew started.

After a brief moment, Naomi inhaled then replied.

“Is that even possible? I looked briefly into it, but I couldn’t find enough information. I gave up after a bit when I kept hitting a dead end. If you could, I would appreciate it.”

Naomi wouldn’t lie. She wanted to have her vision corrected, but her hopes for had been slim. It wasn’t easy to find information to justify it.

“Of course, although I hear that they are developing a medicinal agent that should help restore eyesight, a drug that corrects the fault itself. By the end of the Century we’ll all just get injections or take a pill and that’ll fix anything.” Rachel crossed her arms and gave Naomi an intense look “Can you tell me why I feel like the brussel sprout in a bairns dinner, or more precisely why ye really don’t want to be here?” She asked her smile slightly faded but still visible.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Naomi listened to the doctor. Her blurry eyes fixed to the woman as she continued, mostly interested in the subject. It had been a far better one than her health. As she leaned in, her arms crossed over her lap. At the question her body straightened. Naomi sighed.

“Who wants to be in a medical office? No one likes risking they might learn there’s something wrong. Even worse is the possibly of getting relieved from duty because of it.” Her eyes looked at the CMO, feeling the explanation was sound enough.

Rachel snorted out of amusement “Better tah learn something’s wrong and have it dealt with than ignoring it and placing others at risk, ye neither strike me as arrogant enough nor selfish enough to have that being an issue” She shrugged “But in any case, pop those back in so ye can see. Yer as healthy as can be expected, juss try naht teh go punching things absentmindedly again” Her crooked smile returning “But know that my office is always open, quite literally, I’m not sure these doors have locking mechanisms in place.”

Naomi gently began to pull her eyelids open and insert her contacts, adjusting them as needed. She rapidly blinked a few times to ensure they fixed into place. The tears subsided, she wiped them away and waited until her vision cleared.

As Naomi hopped off, she spoke. “I don’t aim to. Personally, I doubt I’ll ever go into the recreational room again. Unless it’s a nice, calm game of chess.”

She didn’t even know if the issues were curable. A fact she didn’t want to risk facing as she kept her smile on her face.

“Thanks for the check up. I’ll make sure to give the XO and my friend the good news.” Naturally she began to make a beeline for the exit.

“Just remember tah block” Rachel called after the scientist, her instincts had probably been correct. This was not just a dislike of Sickbays. Perhaps in the coming weeks Locke would understand a need to share, but pushing this would only create problems. Rachel made a note to mark this in her log later on.

IC: “Will do!” Naomi shouted back before she vanished, happy to finally be released. She knew deep down she didn’t hide her anxiety or discomfort, but the woman didn’t push too hard. For that, Naomi was grateful because she might’ve broken down. She wasn’t going to face her fears until she had to.
