The view on the screen switched from a full on shot of grey and black mottled metal to the curvature of what, had it been a world, would have sported an atmosphere. Now it appeared to be the curvature of an asteroid, albeit a very large one. Ahead loomed the open portal that the previous two shuttles had disappeared through. Now, they too swung around to enter.

The moment they did enter the helm would feel the tug of the black hole in the center of the space. Energy readings dotted all about, though, sadly, nothing obvious from the surface of the sphere that looked to be scraped clean leaving only irregular foundations. The energy readings ranged from small, individual locations to larger clusters of energy - none on the surface but all at least a hundred kilometers from the inner surface of the sphere.

“Captain, I’m not really picking up much,” Alison said as she looked over the energy readings. “The inner surface is bare, only a few irregular structures. But I am getting some energy readings from above the inner surface.”

((OOc for the record, we just entered the meteor/asteroid ring surrounding the sphere… we aren’t going to enter the sphere, just get closer....))

Ari nodded as they moved closer. “See if you can find a source, Barr. If we can find the hot spot on this thing, maybe we can find a control center of some kind. Although,” she added, grinning at the Science Chief, “if you can find a more unusual cold spot, lemme know. Maybe it’s where the heat is ‘absent’ that we to concentrate.”

She half whispered a silent prayer to the gods to look after her crewmen. It seemed everyone would need a bit of a hope and a prayer right now.

“I’ll take a look Captain, but I don’t think these clusters are a source of the control center. They seem a bit to erratic. But I’ll see if maybe we can find a cold spot.”

Alison looked over the sensors again, looking to see if there was any notable absences of energy.

Sensors could find a lot of cold spots where there looked to be simply nothing there emanating.

However in three spots that they could see with their perspective, there were ‘hot’ spots. It looked to be a thermal kind of energy where heat was radiating. By what means and why was another story from that distance. Those spots glowed a rosy red on the screen filtered for thermal energy. There were the other smaller ‘dots’ over the surface showing habitations or other spheres. By scale, the surface regions were enormous.

Ari frowned. She had hoped a void of sorts would show where, perhaps, some reactor or something wasn’t working properly. “Figures it wouldn’t be that easy,” she murmured to herself. “Ok,” she raised her voice as she reasoned out loud. “So most of those are habitats, or at least clusters of life. But those larger cold spots are a bit erratic as well.” She didn’t exactly figure it would be easy, but she had hoped for ‘something’.

She tapped the console on her chair to call to the away teams. [O]Status update… MACO? Baumann? What’s happening out there? We’ve moved closer to assist but We can’t penetrate the sphere much to see what’s going on.[O]

“Captain, it’s probably part of the reason why they can’t communicate with the interior of the sphere. I’m not seeing consistent power readings across the sphere. There are a smattering of hot spots, but I’m seeing three main concentrations. These might be where the spheres inhabitants are grouping together…”

Alison looked over the sensor readings again.

“You know Captain. It sort of reminds me of a caste set-up. With a group holding all of the power, and the people without power just struggling to hang on around the main cities.”

=^=Apologies Captain. We are attempting to evacuate the people here into one of their spacecraft in case our MACO team is unsuccessful. Engineering is having a look at their craft at this time to improve its efficiency.=^=
