SnipKenny nodded. He twitched a little. He didn’t know what to talk about. Maybe he should change the subject? He decided to do that, and after a moment of hesitation, he spoke up again. “Um, do you have any hobbies? Stuff you do when you’re off duty?” He asked.
Kenny, CE
The Armory Chief stepped into the Mess Hall and surveyed the room. It was a bit crowded, but there were seats here and there. Walking over and ordering, he waited for a few moments and then retrieved his plate. On it was a piece of fried something covered in a dark brown gravy, sauerkraut, and sliced potatoes with the same gravy. A tall glass of water and a second with a reddish liquid in it completed the tray, and the big German turned and looked for a seat.
Baumann, AC
Stovik looked up and noted Baumann looking for a seat,”Lieutenant, you may join us if you wish.” He said in invitation to the Armory Chief before looking back toward Kenny to answer his query.”I do not know if you would call it a hobby but I usually spend my leisure time studying alien anatomy so I will be as prepared as I can be when we meet new species.”
Healer Stovik
Baumann nodded in acknowledgement and took a seat. “Thank you both. I do hope I am not intruding.” he said politely.
Baumann, AC
“Not at all,” Kenny said amicably to the armory chief. “I was just asking Stovik what he does for fun. I forgot that Vulcans don’t have a concept of fun,” he chuckled good-naturedly, communicating that his words were in jest.
Kenny
Setting is tray down and nodding to each in thanks, he said “Many have said the same for Germans.” as he took his seat.
Baumann, AC
“I would submit that it is a matter of definition.” Stovik said with apparent seriousness though there might have been a hint of dry amusement in his tone as he studied Baumann’s choice of meals. He could not identify everything on the other officer’s tray. “Might I ask, Chief what you have chosen for your dietary needs today?”
Healer Stovik
“Wienerschnitzel. A family recipe I was able to share with our cooking staff. Veal, flattened and breaded, fried, then covered with a brown gravy.” and he looked at Stovik. “I know of the Vulcan dietary restrictions, Healer. I do hope my meal does not offend.” Baumann offered. “I was simply in the mood for something of home.”
Baumann, AC
Stovik’s brow shot up in surprise,”It is quite all right, Chief. It is not offensive for me to watch you eat meat just because I choose not too. I am curious and fascinated actually with the intricacies of various cultures cooking hence my asking of it.”
Healer Stovik
Baumann nodded once in acknowledgement. “Most German cuisine is heavy in proteins, starch, and carbohydrates. It dates back to when my people were mostly laborers and farmers. We needed heavy food to keep us going during long periods of physical activity. Especially in the winter, which can be quite intense in my home region.” and he took a drink. “If I am not mistaken, Healer, I believe that the Vulcan dietary restrictions come from some of the teachings your species follows. Is that correct?” While not a xenobiologist or diplomat in any sense of the word, Baumann had worked with some very few Vulcan personnel on operations during his time spent with the United Earth Government military.
Baumann, AC
“Indeed it does, mostly it is a logical choice though. Again perhaps given the environment my people have been raised in. My world is more of the opposite extreme to yours being more in the desert spectrum. That has perhaps shaped our diet as in that it is more efficient for our bodies to have a lighter diet.”
