OOC: It is utter bizarrity that I would post successfully on one thread and come to a second and when I go to post it logs me out. Lost my utterly brilliant once in a lifetime incredible post. Well, okay, modestly interesting one .. but still <G> .. grr
IC:Dal replied. “The surface was once our home we are told. Now it is the great Wall. We now live between the Wall and the Pit. The Wall that gave us life and the Pit that takes it.” He appeared surprised at the unexpected profoundness of his words, at least to him they were, and he paused. “The transmission/radio/call is an old machine that we speak with our family/allies/friends. It was them I was trying to call. But you answered.” Dal brightened at that.
To Kenny’s inquiry, after receiving a nod from the other two elders, stood and took Kenny’s hand, drawing him toward the wall of their sphere. His cold was cool and smooth. At the wall a window some inches tall but extending all around the perimeter looked out into semi space. In the far distance hung the great ‘Pit’, the black hole that yawned open and seemed alive and malevolent. But between them they could see two small dots. Dal pointed to them. “There. The machines.”
-DalT’Leia followed and stopped beside Kenny as she looked to where Dal pointed,”You speak to your family and friends with those machines?” She asked thinking that they must be satellites. “Is that what you need us to fix? Not something here?” She asked confused. This lack of complete language was making things difficult and cumbersome communication wise and she was starting to feel some frustration which she tamped back down as she took a slow calming breath. Patience was needed when dealing a new species.
Commander T’Leia
“The machine keeps us alive. Keeps the great hand from pulling us into the Pit. The force from the Pit.” His slit like mouth and face pulled into a familiar expression - a frown, him too frustrated at the communication challenge. “The talking machine/communicator/device is there,” Dal said, pointing to a small alcove in the core of the ‘deck’, where one of the doors/Jeffries like tube doors were.
T’Leia looked toward Baumann to see if he understood any better. If she was understanding what Dal was saying then, the machines ‘out there’ helped them with communication. So whatever they needed to fix was here.
Baumann stepped to the side and said on the comms [O] Captain, these beings appear in distress and showed us where they say they sent the distress call from. It is closer to the interior of the sphere. They have also mentioned individuals falling into the singularity at the center, which they refer to as ‘The Pit’; and wars, mass mechanical failures, and some place called ‘The City’. They appear unaware of anything outside of the sphere. [O]

So far Rachel had been quiet but it was reaching the moment when she would ask about their injured. The fact that they had no idea that they lived in a Starship didn’t bode well for their technological prowess and their access to proper medical care. She studied the fruit carefully, considering grabbing a few samples ti take back to Bonaventure for further study. If Emergency rations could be made to taste better it may be worth it.
Dr. Grey - CMO
One of the ‘young’ from the family group had pulled away from the family grouping and had come up to Dr Grey and tugged on her jacket. By the look it may be a small female. Her left foot appeared warped as though from an accident and she favored her right leg when standing. She came up to Grey’s waist. “Fruit?” she asked.
Rachel cocked her head at the sight of the child, although she saw the injured leg she didn’t make it obvious, maintaining eye contact “Sure lass” She handed her a piece she was holding. She slowly grabbed her scanner and brought it to the girls leg, trying to be casual and discreet.
The girl took the fruit and bit into it, looking at Rachel as if to try to understand someone looking so strange. The scan showed that it was a recent break in a bone that was not set well and had caused the deformation to develop, partly from the bone and partly from the way she had adjusted her walk. It was partially set, but by the nature of the bones and in use it kept falling out of alignment.
Immediately Rachel wanted to start treating the young girl. Even without technology properly setting a bone was not a really complex. What sort of people don’t even have healers capable of this. She turned to the Vulcan Commander to speak but time did not permit.
Naomi’s face drained of all color. He eyes flipped from where Dal was pointing, back to Kenny and finally to her XO. She wanted to hiss a question, but her teeth clenched down her tongue. It wasn’t easy. If something went wrong, not just the satellite but Kenny and anyone with him could be sent hurtling toward the black hole. Lost forever. Her heart tensed at the thought as she shook her head free from them. She hoped the XO wasn’t willing to send her people on a suicidal mission to fix them.

“Oh no,” Dal said, his body suddenly tensing. Then he pointed. “Raiders. From the City. If they take it we die.” Two small lighted dots were moving across the blackness of ‘inner space’ toward them.
- WookieeT’Leia looked where he pointed and frowned. Raiders? She stared at the dots, “Locke! What are those?” She asked urgently pointing. She moved quickly toward the away team. “Everyone, stay here together.” She said wondering if she should have brought more security with them, or MACO’s.
Commander T’Leia
They looked to be shuttle sized by virtue of the lights. To know for sure they’d need to be closer but they could in the viewing possibly pick out a second deck from the lighting.
Dr. Grey - CMO
Baumann looked and said calmly “Security. Defensive formation. Find cover and designate fields of fire. Set for stun. Do not fire unless fired upon. Commander, I recommend we find cover, perhaps some place to address these ‘raiders’ prior to an armed conflict?” and he looked at Dal and said “Where will the Raiders come into this area from?” The Security team began forming a box around the crew and assembled members of Dal’s tribe.
Baumann, AC
While Baumann was speaking T’Leia was looking around to see where the crew and the people with them might safely find cover.
Commander T’Leia
Dal replied, “They won’t come here. Not to us. They will go there,” He pointed to one of the two brighter dots that was one of the gravitic repulsors. “They will take that. And we will be pulled into the Pit.” The two dots were not, indeed, approaching the Sphere where they were at but were making a course for the repulsor. The remainder of the ‘family’ there edged into a close group. “In the last raid our sled/defense was damaged. It is not ready. My call only reached you. None of our allies/friends replied.” he visibly slumped. “We die.”
- DalBaumann looked at Commander T’Leia. “Commander. Rather than risk an armed conflict as we still do not understand the dynamics involved, I recommend we evacuate the people here. After all, we are answering a distress call. We can have the other shuttle brought in, perhaps with some Marine reinforcements should things become more… complicated?”
Baumann, AC
One of the two elders stood and said to Baumann. “We have a pod too. It does not work well. Not enough to fit all, but some. Not enough to keep us away from the pull of the Pit, but some. We may fit half of us in it. Half to die and half to live with you. As Elder I will lead those to die.” He was being perhaps a bit early in his presumption of dying, though he did bring up the other pod. Baumann too would realize that were they to call the Bonnie in or another shuttle it may not be swift enough. Swifter with the Bonnie certainly.
“I don’t know how viable it is to move these people, If there are more of them like the wee lass over there it’ll take some doin’” Rachel added quietly “Then of course we may not have another course of action.
Dr. Grey - CMO
Dr Grey could count that there were just under 30 in the room. They were all either looking out into space at the dots or at the away team.
Locke was about to comment, but she bit her tongue. Now wasn’t the time as she lifted from her seat and stepped closer to where Dal was pointing. Her eyes squinted hard at the small lighted dots. At this distance, her vision couldn’t provide her with details to indicate what they were exactly. It didn’t help her vision was less than perfect since she usually wore contacts or glasses on duty.
She was about to say something to her commander when she spotted the XO and Baumann in conversation. Deciding not to interrupt, her eyes noticed Dal’s crestfallen posture and came to rest beside him. She cautiously placed her hand on his arm in a comforting gesture her mother often used, resting on top of the bicep.
“My friends will help. Do not lose hope,” she wasn’t sure if her simple words would be easily understood since it wasn’t Vulcan, but she figured some things were universal.
Smiling, Alan moved over and said “She tar-tor her t’hylara dungi gol’nev. Ri tor pak-tor rok.” (Her friends will help. Do not lose hope.)
Dal was focused on the dots. By the movements and distance they had a short time but not a lot of time. It would depend on the means of the raiders to take the gravitic repulsor. He didn’t jerk when Locke touched him though after the touch was gone his other hand went to that spot. “Alan,” Dal said, though it came out more as Ah-lahn in pronunciation. “You alone came to my call. We thank you.”
“Ish-veh nam-tor ra etek tor. Ra etwel halitra tor tra’ na’, i tvai.” (It’s what we do. Why our fleet is here, I mean.)
After Rachel’s and Baumann’s statements, she moved closer to her team and decided now was the time to enter the conversation.
“I can’t tell from this distance what those two things are so I say we take Dal’s word over it,” she inhaled then continued.
“Right now, we need to figure how many individuals we need to move. Shuttles will only hold so many and I don’t think any of us want to lose more than we save. If we have more than we can load, we need to come up with another plan.”
She glanced at the small child nearest the CMO then sighed, “I think we should load up those in need of medical attention and can move without increasing their injuries first. With them out of the way, they are one less thing to worry about.”

Stepping away and to a window, Alan watched the dots approach for a moment and then looked down at the phase pistol he had been provided. “Raiders. Etek ma tor prah si’.” (We have to get out.)
-Lt(j.g.) Alan Dysart, Linguist
T’Leia looked toward Baumann,”Baumann contact the Captain and apprise her of what’s going on. Tell her that those raiders are trying to destroy those structures and they are vital to the survival of these people. If the Bonaventure can stop them we won’t need to evacuate anyone.” She seriously doubted that they would have sufficient time to evacuate more then a handful of people.
Commander T’Leia
Baumann nodded and stepped to the side [O] Rescue Team to Bonaventure. Captain, Dal has identified incoming raiders. He says they are about to destroy critical infrastructure that keeps his people from falling into ‘The Pit’. Commander T’Leia suggests you intercept, if possible. I also recommend we prepare to evacuate those we can, Captain. The dangers here are palpable, and without knowing the complete situation, we are at a severe disadvantage. [O]
Baumann, AC
- WookieeRachel did the math in her head. A shuttlepod could hold 6 people normally, they simply didn’t have the capacity to save anyone. At least not without making some tough decisions. Although she was trained to do her job under extreme stress but strategic or tactical decisions were beyond her capabilities. Instinctively her left hand touched her medpack whilst her right hovered over her baton.
Dr - Grey CMO
T’Leia looked at Dal and Alan, knowing Alan would translate for her if needed.”Prepare your people for evacuation.” Once the raiders were dealt with perhaps they could go back to their original job of fixing the machinery.
Commander T’Leia
“Dator kanok-veh tor sashalotau.” (Prepare everyone to evacuate.) Alan translated, not as much for Dal as for anyone else nearby who wasn’t as accustomed to T’Leia’s Vulcan. “Etek bolaya weht wak.” (We need more time.) he whispered, at this point speaking the language unconsciously.
