Baumann looked at Fleet and said “Machines failing and falling into pits definitely sounds like an area you should perhaps take a look at, Commander.” Baumann said quietly as he looked around the area and directed the Security team to fan out a bit. It was hard to tell with the typically taciturn Armory Chief, but that may have been sarcasm.

Baumann, AC

T’Leia nodded,”Commander Fleet is here to assist you with your repairs. It sounds like the unknown ship could be the enemy that they are mentioning.” She said to Baumann.
=^=Captain, it appears that the ship nearing you may be one that the natives fear is dangerous to them. I would advise caution.=^=

Commander T’Leia

[O] Copy that [O] Was Ari’s response to T’Leia

Naomi did notice Rachel’s near mistake since she was scanning said fruit.

Her eyes darted toward the CMO and her lips pressed subtly together, a hint of disapproval in her expression. Her right eyebrow raised while she waited for her senior officer to place it down. As they learned through contact with the Vulcan, not all beings held the same nutritional values or immunities to certain foods. She assumed someone in the medical department, especially in charge, would’ve known that.

When her scans finished, she smiled, “The fruits have a high fiber content and vitamin range. I think it was genetically modified at one time, but there’s nothing to indicate it is toxic. Unless you have a fruit allergy, it’s safe. And even then, I’m not sure if it will set it off.”

To prove her point, she took one fruit and dug her fingers into the leathery surface. With a bit of effort, she managed to slit it apart. Recalling how the CMO had nearly eaten one before she fully finished the scan, she passed one half of it to Rachel.

“Enjoy.”

Rachel simply tossed the fruit in her mouth quite gleefully. winking at the scientist she chewed quite happily on her new treat.

“Wuh Teraya nam-tor spo’ wuh travek t’ sutra choosing tor nam-tor tersau. Veh tribe tor s’ wehk.” (The federation is like a group of peoples choosing to be connected. One tribe made of many.)

“Du nam-tor struggling k’ wuh’ashiv travek? ish-veh dan-ek tehrai hasu tor destabilise ish-veh kahr heh satau du tevan-tor vi’ nash pit?” (You are struggling with another group? Their ultimate goal being to destabilise your city and send you falling into this pit?) Alan glanced back at T’Leia. “sos’eh etek kupi gol’nev kuv etek fai-tor weht pa’ nash pit, ra du require tor stay s’ ish-veh, heh ra nash nemut travek has vesh’ doing tor tor du tevan-tor. (Perhaps we could help if we knew more about this pit, what you require to stay out of it, and what this enemy group has been doing to make you fall.)

Dr. Grey - CMO

T’Leia met Dysart’s glance but turned her attention back to Dal and his people. They needed more information and the permission to see what repairs needed doing. She could not formulate a plan without this information. She wished their translator was able to pick up the dialect as it would have been a faster way to communicate rather then through a third party but she knew she had to be patient.

Commander T’Leia

After a moment Dal replied. “The Pit. The Great Mouth in the center of space. Many have fallen there not to return.” There was a longer pause as there was soft consultation between the two elders. Dal continued at confirmation. “We all struggle to survive. Much that was working is not any longer. Machines fail that kept us from the Pit. To live, there are struggles/wars. The City is the strongest but even they know that in time we are all destined to the Pit.”

He continued. “Long ago we lived on the surface, so the elder stories say. But then the Great Mouth grew stronger and tore the surface from us. We created these cities and villages/homes and our ancestors devised the machines to hold back the Mouth’s hunger.”
Dal

Dal’s story was a story of a race’s pain and fight against both nature and another race and T’Leia, despite her Vulcan training, felt horrified by it.”How many of your people are left?” She asked as she considered that this fight of theirs couldn’t go on. Even if the Bonnie managed to fix what needed repairing these people would eventually lose. Another means must be found. Could they negotiate with this alien power that was against them? Reason with them to get them to help these people? Could the Federation help these people relocate?

Commander T’Leia

Max was concerned about Dal’s people. He’d hoped the Federation could help in some sort of fashion.

Woods, Armory

Baumann looked at Dysart and said “Ask them how they sent the distress call? If everything is as bad as they say, we need to know what level of technology these people understand.”

Baumann, AC

Rachel continued to listen with interest as she chewed on a second fruit. It was the first time she’d met new aliens.

Dr Grey - CMO

Alan nodded in response to Baumann’s order. “Uf did ish-veh sutra satau wuh flakosh vutau etek puzhu-tor? kuv du vesh’ ri aware t’ koshtri s’udish wuh ek’kal, po satau ish-veh?” (How did your people send the distress call we heard? If you were not aware of species outside the sphere, why send it?)

“Point me towards the engine,” Kenny said with a small nod, picking up a fruit and quietly peeling off the outer rind and biting into the fruit to try it out.

Kenny, CE

Rachel’s wink caused Naomi to smile a bit, her own attention turned to her own piece. While she knew it wasn’t toxic, her mind couldn’t help wonder if the flavor was bland or delicious. Most genetic altered food was hit or miss. She liked organic strawberries, but the genetically modified ones tasted like water more than sweet to her. Naomi blamed it on inheriting her mother’s sensitive taste buds.

As she bright the piece to her mouth, she took a test nibble. The fruit was bland in flavor but held more sweetness than their own. She realized the design leaned heavier to nutrients than taste. Deciding she was too hungry, Naomi simply finished off her portion while she listened.

When the story ended, she felt a pang of sympathy. She brushed it to the side when she spotted Dysart worked on communicating their Armor Officer’s questions to the natives. She continued to let the senior officers handle the situation. Her upper teeth bit her lip though whenever she thought back to the story. She wondered if the ‘Pit’, as they called, was actually natural or artificial. It could’ve been the language barrier, but it sounded like it had always been a part of their lives.

She shook her head at her own silliness and she continued to wait for more information.

OOC: It is utter bizarrity that I would post successfully on one thread and come to a second and when I go to post it logs me out. Lost my utterly brilliant once in a lifetime incredible post. Well, okay, modestly interesting one .. but still <G> .. grr

Dal replied. “The surface was once our home we are told. Now it is the great Wall. We now live between the Wall and the Pit. The Wall that gave us life and the Pit that takes it.” He appeared surprised at the unexpected profoundness of his words, at least to him they were, and he paused. “The transmission/radio/call is an old machine that we speak with our family/allies/friends. It was them I was trying to call. But you answered.” Dal brightened at that.

To Kenny’s inquiry, after receiving a nod from the other two elders, stood and took Kenny’s hand, drawing him toward the wall of their sphere. His cold was cool and smooth. At the wall a window some inches tall but extending all around the perimeter looked out into semi space. In the far distance hung the great ‘Pit’, the black hole that yawned open and seemed alive and malevolent. But between them they could see two small dots. Dal pointed to them. “There. The machines.”
-Dal

T’Leia followed and stopped beside Kenny as she looked to where Dal pointed,”You speak to your family and friends with those machines?” She asked thinking that they must be satellites. “Is that what you need us to fix? Not something here?” She asked confused. This lack of complete language was making things difficult and cumbersome communication wise and she was starting to feel some frustration which she tamped back down as she took a slow calming breath. Patience was needed when dealing a new species.

Commander T’Leia

Baumann stepped to the side and said on the comms [O] Captain, these beings appear in distress and showed us where they say they sent the distress call from. It is closer to the interior of the sphere. They have also mentioned individuals falling into the singularity at the center, which they refer to as ‘The Pit’; and wars, mass mechanical failures, and some place called ‘The City’. They appear unaware of anything outside of the sphere. [O]

Baumann, AC

So far Rachel had been quiet but it was reaching the moment when she would ask about their injured. The fact that they had no idea that they lived in a Starship didn’t bode well for their technological prowess and their access to proper medical care. She studied the fruit carefully, considering grabbing a few samples ti take back to Bonaventure for further study. If Emergency rations could be made to taste better it may be worth it.
