“Yes Captain. So you are aware, it looks like the ship has activated some sort of energy field, something that we can’t see through.”

Alison reached over and tapped a command into the station. “Channel open Ma’am.”

What looked like a holographic ‘ball’ filled the space in front of the viewscreen easily two meters in diameter. Thin light blue horizontal lines made up the sphere. After only a second or two the sphere looked like it was convulsing, distorting in shape. Eventually, after several seconds it had formed a giant head image of Ari, the Captain.. However, the voice was certainly not hers. It was a harsher tone with distinct mechanical overtones in its, ah, tone. “Who are you? One of your vessels is Within. You bear the shadow of the Bane. What is your allegiance?”

The language was English; comms could tell there was some kind of interlink happening in the language banks of the computer.

Ari certainly didn’t hide her surprise that the ‘vision’ chose to become her. After a moment of shock, she managed to stand up and take a step forward. “I am Captain Bovar of the USS Bonnaventure. We are an exploration ship and mean no harm. We heard a distress call and came to see if we could aid. That was all. We mean no harm or ill will. May I ask who you are?” Her voice was surprisingly steady, but if she had been on a biobed, her vitals would have been sending warning bells to every stat listed.

Alison was amazed by the holographic display, the technology was amazing. But how was it that it was able to speak in English. As she checked the computer, it looked like it was tapping into their linguistic database. But it was pretty amazing that it was able to analyze and synthesize the voice so quickly.

[O] Copy that [O] Was Ari’s response to T’Leia. It made sense, if there were warring factions here, that one would be approach them. The hard part would be trying to remain neutral and ‘help’ both sides if they were able. Barring that, departing in one piece with her entire crew, was the priority on Ari’s list.

“I am Hierol LY, Watcher of the surface-scape. This station has no distress designation. Explain. Explain too the Bane shadow I sense.”

The ship outside was holding station and not bearing any weapons on them, though there was a sensor barrage as it was evidently studying them.

Air’s breath hitched, but she managed to steel her expression. “Bane came to seek our reason for being in this space. We told him we were explorers and he departed. We heard the distress call and investigated to make sure there were not lives at stake. We wish nothing in return and will leave in peace. If it’s allowed, perhaps we can ask for a chance of diplomatic meeting with others of my species so we can understand the uniqueness you represent. Humans embrace all races, even those we have not discovered yet.”

She was no diplomat and she hoped she wasn’t making this worse. Where was T’Leia when she needed the steady head?
