Dal pointed to a horizontal line of ‘chairs’, appearing to fuss a little that there may not be enough for everyone. Others of his tribe moved others to be in a flattened triangle. Dal sat in the middle of one of the other lines of the triangle, and another two, older by the look of them, sat across on the other. “This is Guz and Ten,” he said, by way of introduction, then, used a word that loosely translated as ‘elder’.At that time he addressed the question, even as bowls of some kind of grey, leathery looking ‘fruit?’ was placed on the table. Once they were all settled, those three and awaited the others in the away team, did they reply. It appeared some formality was required. At a nod, Dal replied, though looked at a loss. “We know .. not of this that you speak. What is outside? Beside yourself.” It was clear that they had no idea what that other vessel was. As formal they wished to be in this meeting, there was evident confusion of what the question was.
- Wookiee“Tell him about the Federation and who we are, Dysart. Tell him that we heard their distress call and came to help.” While Dysart was doing that she looked toward Baumann. “Let the Captain know that they do not know who the identity of the ship.” T’Leia was feeling like an orchestra conductor giving instructions to various members of the team. She felt an almost unVulcan like sense of impatience having to work this way and with Dal’s people insistence on formality but reminded herself that their mission was to meet new species.
“Ensign Locke, please scan the food that they are offering us to be sure that it is safe for us to eat.”Commander T’Leia
Baumann turned from the assembly and said into the comms [O] Baumann to Captain. The individuals here have no inclination as to the nature of the vessel. They seem to be unaware of anything outside their sphere… including us. They are asking what is ‘outside’ besides us. [O]

Approaching Dal and the others, Alan started to speak. “S’udish nam-tor wuh ret mesakh nash ek’kal. Nam-tor etek wuh wuh’rak sutra s’ s’udish tor sarlah? etek puzhu-tor wuh flakosh vutau. Etwel travek, wuh Teraya tor wuh terkadaya t’ wehk koshtri na’ wuh lof t’ exploration. Lu etek puzhu-tor wuh flakosh vutau, etek kupi ri bau-tor ish-veh.” (Outside is the space beyond this sphere. Are we the first people from outside to come? We heard a distress call. Our group, the Federation is a cooperation of many species for the purpose of exploration. When we heard the distress call, we could not ignore it.) He looked back at T’Leia nervously. The fact that he was responsible for communicating first contact was setting in.
Returning to the three in front of him, Alan continued. “I, heh danik t’ etwel hali-sutra nam-tor komihn. Sarlah etek s’ wuh panu puvutau terra. Wuh leader t’ etwel landing travek heh ein vath nam-tor Vuhlkansu. S’ wuh panu k’ wuh ka ahm. Etek, bi’ k’ vath koshtri, ma shidau etwel exploratory halitra tor ragel-tor sutra heh gla-tor shitau previously undiscovered tor etek. Mau spo’ nash.” (I, and most of our crew are Human. We come from a world called Earth. The leader of our landing group and some others are Vulcan. From a world by the same name. We, along with other species, have formed our exploratory fleet to meet people and see places previously undiscovered to us. Much like this.)
“U’ i tar-tor fa’, etek puzhu-tor wuh flakosh vutau. Sarlah etek tor gol’nev. U’ mau u’ etwel skrol tor tor explore, ish-veh tor tor tor contact k’, heh gol’nev vath ha’kiv. Etek dungi nufai whatever mamuk etek mokuhlek.” (As I said before, we heard a distress call. We came to help. As much as our mission is to explore, it is to make contact with, and help other life. We will offer whatever aid we can.)

Ari tapped her chair comm, [O] Roger, Baumann… see how quick we can figure this out and give whatever aid they need. Something tells me whatever is out here isn’t happy with us. [O]

COThe Elders, Guz and Ten listened. Dal’s head swiveled from them to the away team and back again. The rest of the tribe was in the background going about their general housekeeping but listening to every word. Guz raised a hand and Dal then turned to reply. “There are other tribes here. The frequency was to those allied/close/related to us. Never we thought of touching anyone Outside. Your Federation is like the Allied/close/related to you?”
Dal glanced back to the two Elders then back toward Alan. “Our machines fail. One stolen from us. One more fail and we fall into the Pit. The predator/enemy/city steals and wars against the small.” He looked worriedly at the Elders and then to Alan. “I fear. You are from Outside. The predator/enemy/city will want you now.”
Naomi remained silent and observed. When T’Leia asked her to scan the food, she nodded and stepped forward. She held out her palm for the scanner to run a read out over the fruit’s makeup. The program should end up comparing to known toxins toward any of their current crew’s race. It felt rude, but their safety came first.
When the scans were complete, she would share her findings with the rest of the crew.

The fruit was not toxic, but definitely edible. It did look to have a high fiber content and the mix of vitamins in it was broad suggesting genetically modified at one time.
Rachel had already picked up a single fruit monitoring it and was close to eating it when the commander spoke. Sheepishly she lowered the fruit back to the plate before anyone could notice her.

Baumann looked at Fleet and said “Machines failing and falling into pits definitely sounds like an area you should perhaps take a look at, Commander.” Baumann said quietly as he looked around the area and directed the Security team to fan out a bit. It was hard to tell with the typically taciturn Armory Chief, but that may have been sarcasm.

T’Leia nodded,”Commander Fleet is here to assist you with your repairs. It sounds like the unknown ship could be the enemy that they are mentioning.” She said to Baumann.
=^=Captain, it appears that the ship nearing you may be one that the natives fear is dangerous to them. I would advise caution.=^=Commander T’Leia
Naomi did notice Rachel’s near mistake since she was scanning said fruit.
Her eyes darted toward the CMO and her lips pressed subtly together, a hint of disapproval in her expression. Her right eyebrow raised while she waited for her senior officer to place it down. As they learned through contact with the Vulcan, not all beings held the same nutritional values or immunities to certain foods. She assumed someone in the medical department, especially in charge, would’ve known that.
When her scans finished, she smiled, “The fruits have a high fiber content and vitamin range. I think it was genetically modified at one time, but there’s nothing to indicate it is toxic. Unless you have a fruit allergy, it’s safe. And even then, I’m not sure if it will set it off.”
To prove her point, she took one fruit and dug her fingers into the leathery surface. With a bit of effort, she managed to slit it apart. Recalling how the CMO had nearly eaten one before she fully finished the scan, she passed one half of it to Rachel.
“Enjoy.”

“Wuh Teraya nam-tor spo’ wuh travek t’ sutra choosing tor nam-tor tersau. Veh tribe tor s’ wehk.” (The federation is like a group of peoples choosing to be connected. One tribe made of many.)

Their ultimate goal being to destabilise your city and send you falling into this pit?) Alan glanced back at T’Leia. “sos’eh etek kupi gol’nev kuv etek fai-tor weht pa’ nash pit, ra du require tor stay s’ ish-veh, heh ra nash nemut travek has vesh’ doing tor tor du tevan-tor. (Perhaps we could help if we knew more about this pit, what you require to stay out of it, and what this enemy group has been doing to make you fall.)
