SS Sojourner
Armory
Posted by Ensign Elemirre Serinde (Engineering Officer) in Armory
El ran toward the Armory. The lower armory was on the same deck, E-Deck, as was the main Engineering level so she was able to get there quickly. Her mind moved from one option to another. What to do? What to check? What junctions and power was going through to the Armory to possibly cause an overload that could at the very least render them defenseless and at the most ignite the torpedoes and cripple or destroy the ship. There was an independent conduit that powered the plasma cannons. It was reinforced and dedicated to the cannons so that there would be a consistent flow of energy to them. That conduit terminated in a series of supercooled fins as they connected to the cannon itself. These were both heat sinks as well as supercooled by way of a circulating norex gas.Darting into the Armory there were three on duty there. Only one was actively monitoring the sensor feed from the bridge. The other two were looking suitably bored but at least they were sitting. “Is there a prob..” one of the seated armory crewmen said.”
El replied, “Yes.” She moved to the monitoring panel that gave real time status on the missile and cannon system. They were on, but shouldn’t be. She had cut power to here. “38% of the power from the engines was coming through here. If you fired it would have .. been bad.” The other crewman softly cursed. “Who oversaw the upgrades when we were at port?” El touched a switch. Power should have adjusted in the auto load sequencers of the missile room. It didn’t move. She let out a soft Chinese curse. The officer monitoring the sensors turned. “I did. They ran diagnostics and changed out two relays they said were overdue for PM and uploaded an improved targeting program for the missiles and that enhanced the power from the plasma cannon by 6%. What of it? Sure we left before we could test any of it. But we’d not need all that power that you said. Even if there was more power there are regulators.”
El looked at him. “Regulators that are controlled by your replaced relays.” She flicked more switches. There was no change. She turned about and moved to the small hatch that would lead along the conduit to the cannon emitter. A wave of heat passed her and an acrid smell followed. There was still power here. But how? “Someone either did a very bad job or intended it to be a very bad job. But right now we don’t know what. Pull the emergency power cutoff.”The officer tried. It didn’t budge. Another came over to help. “It’s not moving.”
