Natalia had been on the ship for a day or so, the Sojourner was enroute to their mission posting. She had been eager to get stuck in and meet her department. As such she had arranged to meet Naomi in her Office at 08:00 hours. Natalia sat at her desk and sipped her steaming hot coffee reading the department update as she waited for Naomi to arrive.Commander Natalia Petrenkov CSO/XO
“What did I do now?” Naomi muttered to herself.
Her eyes flicked about as she made haste down the corridor toward the XO’s office. She reflected on all her past tasks within the last month or so, but nothing screamed trouble. So she reasoned it had to be something else. As she approached the office, she took a deep breath and purged her anxiety. It wasn’t easy as she tried to calm.
She pressed the ringer and mentioned her name. Once the doors opened, she stepped in and waited for addition instruction.
-Lt. Naomi D. Locke, Sci
Natalia looked up and smiled as Naomi stepped through the doors and entered the modest office. It was simple, a desk and two chairs. She had a picture frame next to the computer, facing Natalia. The cup of coffee was steaming.
“Ah, Leftenant.” Natalia stated, opting for the British pronunciation.
“Thank you for meeting me. Please take a seat.” She stated with a gesture to the chair in front of the desk. She waited for Naomi to be seated and sipped her coffee before continuing.
“I’m sure you’ve been stewing over why I’ve called you in? I just wanted to get to know my team. I’ve only been on board the ship for a day. I was something of a last minute replacement before this new mission!” She stated with a smile.Commander Natalia Petrenkov XO/CSO
Naomi’s eyes took in her surroundings, noting the simplicity of it. A part of her wondered how much was tied with the XO’s preference and based on other factors. She pushed it out of her mind when she took a seat. Fixing her attention on her superior, she folded her hands into her lap and listened. She blinked at the enthusiasm pouring out of the XO/CSO’s voice. This was not the type of stuff she expected from a strict, uptight officer.
“Okay, so what do you know about first?” She asked, waiting for a question.
-Lt. Naomi D. Locke, Sci
Natalia smiled of course, you need to ask questions! She thought herself feeling slightly silly, she got too caught up in things sometimes.
” Why did you go into Science? I’ve read your file but I’d like to hear about why. ” She asked and sipped her coffee, waiting for a response.Commander Natalia Petrenkov XO/CSO
Naomi paused in thought, considering the question. There was many reasons why, but she had to pick one for the answer. She took a deep breath then spoke. “Despite my family ties to military, I was more interested in discovering answers. Science provided the means to do that. Especially exploring places no one’s been to.”

Natalia smiled and nodded.
“Doesn’t it? I’m very much looking forward to seeing what space has to offer. This will be my first time in space for any length of time. What was your major?” She asked, sipping her coffee cup.Commander Petrenkov CSO/XO
“Xenology. I enjoyed exploring animals, ecosystems, and stuff like that. Funny enough, there’s a few that have similar patterns to our ones on earth.” Naomi stopped herself from going too far into depth over the topic. She wasn’t going to bore her superior with tons of information.

Natalia was slightly disappointed that Naomi had stopped. She had a feeling that Naomi wanted to tell her more.
“Oh please, do continue. I majored in Xeno-biology, so this is right up my street!” She stated excitedly.Commander Petrenkov CSO/XO
Naomi leaned back and sized up her superior. “You sure about that? Once I get started, it’s rather hard to stop. We could be here all day.”
This was an unfortunate truth since she held such a strong passion over it.
After getting a confirmation, she continued. “Take some of the Vulcan wildlife compared to our desert dwelling species. At least what little we know. During data comparisons. there’s certain features that pop up hat benefit their survival in harsh elements. However, where ours differ is they aren’t born over several generations in it. They don’t drink blood like the Le-matya, killing even when they aren’t hungry. Which sounds like a leopard trait really.”
She smirked. “Makes it sound like a brightly colored desert leopard, doesn’t it?”
