snip“Could use an arm,” Paige said with a short laugh. “Whatcha know about ship power systems Commander?”
Lt. Paige Garrison - CE
Lt. Paige Garrison - CENatalia laughed.
“I know the basics. We covered basic ship’s systems on the Command track at the Academy. I can follow instructions and I’m a quick learner. I thought it better to make myself useful down here rather than twiddling my thumbs on the bridge.” Natalia replied with a grin.“Why don’t I have you start helping out the DC team.
“Fiona!” Paige called out, turning slightly away from Natalia. “The Commander is here to help, think you can put her to good use?”
Natalia nodded and looked over at the red headed Fiona.
“Aye Chief.” She replied moving over to the DC team.Fiona Cleare turned - a mostly faceless EV mask pointed toward Paige and Natalia - as she held the hose. There were four at it there - two suited and two not. Natalia may note from the roster that she was a Chief Petty Officer. Behind her helping was Bekele Seifu, Senior Chief Petty Officer. Rounding out the help were two crewmen, one suited and thus unknown behind the hood. The nozzle was shut down and with it much of the noise in engineering. Fiona pulled the hood off revealing flaming red hair that she shook. “Temperature check!” she said to the unsuited crewman.
“Aye Chief, if our temperature is stable here we have a great deal to do. Gravity for one. Clean up for another.”
For El the screen data was forming slowly. Too slow and she fought her patience and training to just wait for it. Sasha was looking like he was in the same boat for transferring any power. Were they working at cross purposes? While her brash chief was with the XO, El shifted lightly over to Sasha’s station, propelling herself along the thin railing. “Sasha, we’re both doing the same thing with trying to route power. You’re waiting for the system and I’m not seeing where the power is going to. I’ve set up a power tree to tell us where the power is going to but it’s taking forever. You take my place there and set your station to alert you if it successfully routes power. I’m going up to E-Deck to access the computer core library directly.”
With that she planted her feet and then shot up through the open ceiling to catch herself on the deck above, on E-Deck. Shifting angles she pushed off to the computer library room that was just off the engineering area. Truly, on this deck, apart from some quarters and the cargo bays, everything here was engineering. Pushing herself into a chair and using her knees to keep her in place she brought up the main computer directly. This affected sensors, artificial gravity, thrusters and propulsion and turned engineering into a chaotic pool of damage control. This was too perfect, at least to El. If they did get out of the asteroids then what? A waiting ship? Using multiple consoles El brought up system diagnostics for armory control and hull polarization to see if there was anything unusual there that might just happen to get knocked out next. With another display she brought up the cochrane. Was anything infringing on them going into warp? On a third she did the same with impulse engines. On a fourth and final display she sought to bring up a comparison between the damage they took with what the ‘refit’ had done while in space dock.
In the back of her mind she had thought to tell the Chief her speculation but she was with the XO at the time and Sasha could watch a lagging system as well as she could.
- El, Eng
Natalia CSO/XOOOC: Sorry for the delay. I like where your thinking is at Gene. Giving me some fantastic ideas.+
OOC: I live to serve :) .. Gene .. oh, and we have the current Plasma cannons aboard. Not updated to the phase cannons yet.The power diagnostic ‘tree’ finished mapping and five dead zones were displayed. Power was either being shunted into these dead zones but no reading was indicating it or no power was going into them at all. The zones specifically were deflector control, port maneuvering and adjacent systems, the plasma cannon system, the lower launch bay, and gravity control.
Both Sasha and El saw the information at the same time roughly. The tall Russian blinked at these dead zones and typed a message to El who was upstairs. Glancing back the Chief was still talking to the XO.
Sasha: [o] What is this? If power is going there why don’t we have control? [c]
El: [o] Sasha, keep an eye on power utilization overall. I’m going to kill all power to these areas. Let’s see what happens. None are being used or needed right now. While I do that you set a Min/Max power limit for these systems based on typical use pattern. With all this power going to these locations I’m concerned that if we try to use them it might overload them if we don’t know how much power is going there. [c]
Sasha [o] Oh and when you can let the Chief know. I’m likely already on report for this. [c]While that was happening El was killing power transfer to those systems. They had one port to maneuver which won’t help anything and no deflectors to speak of and no gravity. Those were first up on line to get back barring trouble. But lower launch bay?
Armory and hull polarization read as okay. The warp drive was intact and useable but it would heavily depend on deflector dish which was currently damaged. Impulse engines were likewise limited to the maneuvering control damage affecting the thrusters.

El and Sasha, Eng
OOC: Let me clarify. The five areas are dead zones so it’s unknown if they’re getting power or if they’re dead. Though you can intuit that deflector control is because of the two in there rigging the manual switchover system. Are you sure you want to turn them off and on again? Oh and good catch regarding the plasma cannons.
OOC: Never good when the GM asks ‘are you sure’? <G> .. Gene~Creeping Dread
“My spidey was tingling Ensign,” Paige said pushing herself back towards Sasha. “Did the diagnostics finally spit out something? And where did Serinde go?”
Lt. Paige Garrison - CE
“More or less, Chief,” he said. “Five areas here are showing nothing and that is where 30% of our power is going.” He pointed to each in turn for deflector control, port maneuvering and adjacent systems, the plasma cannon system, the lower launch bay, and gravity control. “Power is supposed to be going to those areas but it is evidently not happening with gravity. We’re not using deflector or plasma cannons and there is nothing happening in the launch bay. There is only one thruster operating and that will not give us control anyway. El went up into the computer core thinking data might come up faster direct from the system.”
“She is worried that if they come to be used there will be a further power surge because of excess power. It could also mean damage. She wants to remove power to those areas. She asked me to set up a Min/Max power limiter to those areas so that after we start it up again there will be governors on them so they won’t overload until we can physically check them.”
Meanwhile El was upstairs awaiting indication from Sasha that he was ready for her to knock out the power to those areas and then reinstate it in a controlled level. Her finger hovered over the button ..
El and Sasha, EngNatalia made her way over to Fiona Clare the CPO, as directed by the Chief. She smiled as she reached the Chief Petty Officer and held out her hand.
“I’m Natalia, I don’t think we’ve formerly met. I’m here to lend a hand. I can follow instructions and I’m a quick learner. Where do you need me and what do you need me to do?” She asked, direct and to the point not wanting to waste any time.Petrenkov CSO/XO
Fiona hid her general look of huh behind her hood but took the offered hand then brushed some floating bits of suppressant from the air between them. “If our temp is good we can move to something more proactive like gravity control here rather than worrying if we’ll blow up.” She glanced up at the crater in the ceiling section that was coated in a slimy mix. THAT was not going to be a quick fix. She pointed to a gloved hand at a console that had been in the backwash of the coolant and had its share and a half of the goop on it. “That console there is dedicated to artificial gravity and inertial damping. Can you .. ” two more engineers came into the room - Boris and William - and Fiona called out to them. “Hoy! You two! Get over to AG and help the commander. Start cleaning it off and help her where she needs it!”
Natalia looked up at the slimy section and groaned. No quick fixes there.
“I would love to not get blown up.” She mumbled to herself in between the interruption from Boris and William. Then back to the XO with somewhat better tone. “If we’re going to get it going that may be the place to start.” The XO would note that the two in the suits were handily secured to the decking in magnetic boots.
“Artificial gravity, gotcha. Let’s see what we’ve got.” She replied floating and slightly jealous of the two in the suits with the magnetic boots.
Suddenly a voice called out. “Is everyone all right?” A female voice, steady but concerned, carried across the room as a young woman appeared in the doorway. Despite floating, she gave the appearance of someone unperturbed by the inconvenience. Almost as if she was used to it.
Her eyes moved to each individual, scanning the room as she went as if looking for others at the same time. “I’m Ensign Niles from Medical. Chief sent me to see if anyone needed assistance.”
Ensign Niles
MedicalAll heads turned to Ensign Niles. Nearly all hands lifted but Fawkes waved his hand. “Over here. Selwyn took a hit.” Selwyn had been secured against and in a webbing that was mag attached to the bulkhead wall. He didn’t look well and was certainly unconscious at best.
- Various EngineersOOC: Poor Selwyn took a hit .. he might be a gonner but GM will let us know. We’ve been holding out hope that he didn’t meet the fate of Millicant who is definitely gone. .. Gene
OOC: Poor Ensign Millicant… we hardly knew him.
NE Selwyn seemed to move very slightly at his being mentioned. Whether that was a trick of the air flow in zero G or not will need to wait until Niles checks for vitals.
On the matter of the exploded power junction the temperature had cooled enough to be warm to the touch still but not melt the flesh off the hands.

El meanwhile messaged down .. [o] Sasha? Are we ready? What is the problem? [c]
Sasha quickly responded .. [o] Waiting on the Chief. Standby [c]While El waited she brought up diagnostics on the Thrusters. What was happening with them? What was damaged that they needed to fix?
Will and Boris moved with careful motions; many surfaces were slick with the coolant goop and floated toward the gravity controller. Boris made a motion and Will peeled off to get the equivalent of a wetvac.
Bekele called out. “Temperature is stable. Warm but we’re not in danger. Slowly decreasing.”
Fiona let out a breath and relaxed. “Galen, stow the hose and monitor the temperatures. We need to know if it increases at all or is a steady decline.” Galen nodded an aye and clunked off still in his suit. Fiona looked at Bekele. The broad Ethiopian looked about. No time to dilly dally. Deflectors were being looked at. Gravity control. “Engines,” he said. “Let’s make sure they will operate when we need them.” Together the two moved to the engine status screen and studied the results.
- El and crew ..Natalia managed to awkwardly float herself over to the console by artificial gravity and inertial dampening. She cast her eye of the console before pushing any buttons to see if it had any power. Not seeing anything obvious she pressed a button hoping it would come to life.

Karina slowly made her way over to where she was hailed from. Seeing the Ensign in webbing made her smile and nod to the others around them. “Hi. I’m Karina. Good call on the webbing. Hard to hold someone still in zero G. And propping them under a console makes treatment difficult.”
The young woman had placed most of her needed tools on her belt or in pockets. A med kit was also slung across her chest. Pulling out her scanner she made a pass down then back up the unconscious NE. Her eyes looking for open wounds as well. “What happened to him? Injured in the explosion?”
The explosion theory wasn’t hard to guess. There were bits of debris and something akin to slime on everything. Locking one of her feet onto the bottom of the webbing to keep from floating away she glanced at her readings while waiting to see who would answer.
