Brunette hair and lightly tanned arms flailed around the small cabin as the gravity gave up and tossed her out of her bunk and into the bulkhead. Growling, Karina managed to right herself and rub her forehead where it had collided with the wall. “OWW!” Without thinking the green eyed vixen slammed her fist into the offending solid object and realized, too late, that it wasn’t going to help. Propelled slightly backwards, she hooked her heels on her bunk and righted herself. “Zero G…” she swore under her breath. If it wasn’t one thing, it was another. The young woman had arrived on the ship with the all call_two months ago. Sadly, it had be on a medical gurney with IVs in her arm. She had been seriously ill and was supposed to be recovering on the station while the ship was on leave. Once better, she would check in and join the _Sojourn like ever normal officer in the fleet did. But no, she had been unconscious when arriving and only discharged from Medical the day before to go to her quarters. Today was her official check in day. But it looked like that would have to wait.
After taking nearly three times as long as normal to get dressed, the woman twisted her hair up in a quick bun, locked it in place with a few clips and growled as she exited her quarters. With so many people on the ship, the halls were oddly less cluttered than she thought they would be.
Another ten minutes later, she managed to make it to Medical. Opening the door hadn’t been a problem because it was locked in that position. Injured were coming in in little clusters. Most, who, under actual gravity probably could have made it on their own, were being bolstered by one or two co workers because of the lack of ship cooperation.
A Lieutenant tapped her shoulder as she stood looking for the CMO. “Ma’am, please… he’s bleeding but I have to get back to engineering.” The red shirted man half pushed, half floated a younger man towards her and turned to head back out like nothing was amiss.
“What’s your name, Ensign?” She said calmly as she looped her foot around a nearby table leg for steadying, and reached up to slowly remove the Ensign’s hand where he was pressing abandage to his forehead.
“Ericson, Ma’am… It happened so fast. One moment we were fine, next thing we know something behind us blew and we all went flying. I guess I knocked my head on something in the fling.” He was shaking, but as her fingers wrapped around his wrist to pull it away so she could see the cut, the tips of her fingers read his pulse. It wasn’t scientific, but a steady beat let her know he was gonna be fine.
“Alright, Ensign Ericson, I’m gonna have to settle you right here,” she set him near the door and glanced around. Seeing no one able to help her this minute, she smiled back at the red shirt. “I’m gonna go help a couple folks worse off than you are, then I’ll be right back. Hold that bandage back on your cut. Don’t let it drain into your eyes. I’ll be right now.” She smiled and turned to find the CMO. If he was close, he would certainly know what was going on. Hopefully he wouldn’t exile her to her room for not having done her official check in, yet.

Medical OfficerRachel Grey was having the most delightful day, She’d been doing experiments with some Xeno-Fungi with adaptogen properties when she was lifted to the air and a moment later a jolt tossed her across the small medical bay. Her training had kicked in and she’d managed to manoeuvre her legs to ‘land’ as if falling, all while giggling joyously. It didn’t take long for injuries to turn up and she was soon too busy to enjoy the lack of Gravity. She was tying patients to the beds with straps. She’d tied some around her waist and shoulders and attached herself to beds as she worked with a meter of rope.
She was just finishing closing a cut when she noticed her new Ensign arrive, seeming lost. She smiled widely, undid the clasp tying her to the bed and attached it to her belt then pushed herself away making sure to apply some spin, She did a full circle before she stopped herself, half by grabbing the smaller woman’s shoulder and half by pushing her foot against the wall. She flashed a wide grin at the woman, giving Karina the first proper glance at her new boss. Rachel was tall, especially now that she wasn’t touching the floor. She had thick curly red hair that was barely contained in a partially undone bun tied with what looked like shoelaces. She wasn’t much older than miles, perhaps late twenties early thirties. She also had a very strong grip and calloused hands, surprising for a modern doctor.
“Ye must be Coma-Girl” Rachel said cheerfully, patting her shoulder heartily. Rachel spoke English with a Scottish accent, although it wasn’t very thick there were hints of her more northern upbringing, with a hint of her Oxford education. “Welcome an’ all that. Here” She said, grabbing a small pouch from her improvised harness and handing it to Karina “Colored bands, standard triage protocol, RPM: respirations, perfusion, and mental status” She didn’t have any background on her newest assistant beyond knowing she was an academy graduate but that combined with a good nurse would be enough. Although she didn’t exactly have nurses by the dozen “Green is responsive and ambulatory, keep them in the hallway, Yellow is anyone non-ambulatory who fulfill all RPM categories. Red is for anyone who fails at least one. Black is for all three negative and are deceased” She had a rapid way of speaking but was clear in her enunciation when explaining the process although this was standard. She paused for a moment, blinked as if surprised by something then spoke “Oh aye, I’m Doctor Lieutenant or Lieutenant Doctor or just Doctor Rachel Grey, yer boss”

Karina laughed as her boss did a small piroette on the way to greet her. She let her own strength show as she helped stabilize the woman with one leg around a nearby table.
“My pleasure, Doctor Grey. I suppose I’ll be “coma girl” for a while. Karina Niles, Ma’am.” She smiled brightly and nodded as each color was recited along with the parameters.“Yes, Ma’am. I’ve got it. I guess we’ll catch up later?” She smiled and made sure Rachel was settled before releasing her foot and moving back to the man she had been with.
After assessing the cut had at least marginally clotted, she made sure he could manage and used gauze from a nearby drawer to keep the compression in place till he was properly treated. Since he said he was stable enough to not need assistance, she had him assist her.
As patients were brought to the door, he helped sort immediate need from the can waits. She then took over and assessed their band colors and marked them.
The Ensign helped immensely by helping those who had been escorts, clear the hall of non injured folks. He used already yellow marked, capable folks, to help usher the more severely injured into the bay. Karina thought it would help keep down the crowd if only banded injured and medical personnel crossed the threshold.

MedicalRachel nodded as Coma-girl went to work No Niles, if you don’t memorise the name now you’ll call her coma-girl forever Rachel’s inner thoughts berated herself. Now with additional aid and no patients critical to focus on, she rather confidently floated herself over to the comm panel on the wall [O]Sickbay to Bridge, things are fairly hectic here and I haven’t received any injury reports from the other decks, what’s our status?[O] Her voice lost all dreamy, airy qualities and was focused and professional.

At some point a stocky man with the look of an engineer floated into sick bay. Looking at anyone he said, “PO Aeled .. I have a communicator here. We have two down in Engineering from an explosion. I think one didn’t make it,” he paused there. “And one I don’t know about. Blunt force injuries,” he added thinking of the fire extinguisher to the head on one that he was told about. “We lost comms to engineering. This is for you in case you need it.” Aeled held out the communicator. “The chief has one and Lt Green has another in the forward deflector control, and another is on the bridge.” He silently thought ‘I hope’.
