Green and Jackson moved along the corridor and down through a Jeffries tube to G Deck, a repair kit and scanner in tow. While in the tube they were struck and for a few seconds they jostled in the tube banging against the close walls. “That’ll leave a mark,” Tyler, the 39 year old warrant officer said as his knee whacked an exposed conduit eliciting a grunt. “After all, I bruise easily.” His southern north american accent gave away the dry humor of his comment, compared to the more clipped British bear like tone of Green who wasn’t jostled as much .. he barely fit into the tube with not too much room to spare. At last they reached the Deflector control room .. Green reached for the hatch to enter but Tyler grabbed his sleeve. “Scan first sir. We might have a hull rupture there. Can’t trust the sensors right now.”
“Good call, Jackson,” Green said, checking his scanner for what lay beyond.
“That’s why they pay me the big credits, Lt,” he replied. Green couldn’t tell if the deadpan reply was accompanied by a smile what with Tyler’s ball cap on. Given the situation Green still frowned in seeing that rather non regulation piece of kit that Jackson seemed to perpetually don - one with the name of each ship he had served on. There was another, the Marlin’s, which Green suspected was a sports team. Not looking to far beyond the football scores Green wasn’t sure what team it was though given Tyler’s heritage he suspected it was one of the American sports that were yet prevalent there.
- Green and Jackson, EngInside deflector control the atmosphere was normal. Once entering though the two men would find that deflector control was a mess. Nothing was on fire like engineering but something had exploded. There were cables strewn about everywhere.

The two stared at the mess, each of them trying to figure out whether this was fixable or not and if so where to start. “Well there’s something you don’t see every day. Or don’t want to,” Jackson said, frowning. Green was ahead of him on the frown but more hidden inside his beard.
“Tyler,” Green said, “See what you can make of this and if we can jury rig something. Be careful. Some of these might be live.”
“Right, Lt. Well, let’s isolate it now,” he said, opening a nearby panel and flicking down a number of small switches, leaving two intact.” Power is off now for everything but a feed to the dish and that one panel on the side that looks like it survived.”
“I’ll try to get a read on the dish from that. If need be I’ll patch in with my scanner,” Green replied.Carefully the two entered and took their places. Green tried the console to determine if he could get anything out of it. If not he would use a patch cable to link his scanner with the feeds he would pull from the underside. His goal was to get a read on the status of the deflector dish both in connectivity and for damage. If he could source the explosion then all the better. Jackson on the other hand took more time to scan the cables for anything live that got around his breakers. He did this before trying to make sense of the strewn about cables. Their time was not precisely short but it wasn’t exactly routine and he worked with as much speed as he could.

The console came to life at Green’s touch. The readouts weren’t nearly as horrible as the mess in deflector control might have indicated. Power was stable to the deflector though for some reason the ability to permute the output into different angles and intensities was disabled. So for the time being it was set to normal output and dead ahead while the only other option was to turn it off. A glance at the log would show that a spike in power was preceded by functions going offline.
Jackson’s scans would show that all but three of the lines that were supposed to be off were showing as having no power. The three lines were very much live and somehow fused into the deflector’s main power trunk.
The ship jolted as another rock hit the Sojo’s armor and bounced off.
