It had been a long shift and Natalia had been working hard to try to get to know some of the crew. She wanted to use the 2 months as wisely as possible. It was going to be some time before they reached their destination. The perfect opportunity for a new joiner to get up to speed. She made her way from her Office in the Science labs down to the lounge on deck G. She hummed and almost skipped as she went.

Before I commit a crime

She sang quietly as she went. Nodding to passers by. It wasn’t long before she arrived in the lounge. She looked around and was slightly disappointed to see that there weren’t many people around. She sighed slightly but grabbed a meal and a glass of iced tea. She then chose a seat at an empty table and ate smiling to herself. She had finally made it onto a starship. It felt like her career was just beginning.

It was not long before a tall, lanky (seemingly all elbows and knees) man with a boyish look, short hair with a pronounced widow’s peak came in. It was more like he came skidding to a stop in the galley and looked around at the few there. Focusing on Natalia he made a beeline to her. “Dobriy vecher,” he said as a typical Russian greeting, then added a quick “Sir.” He bore the rank of Ensign. He continued in English which was rather thickly accented. “I heard that another of my countrymen is aboard. I am pleased to meet you. I am Sasha. Sasha Gagarin. Engineer.” His words came tumbling out and he stood as though breathless for Natalia to speak.

Alexander had only had chances for quick bites in the galley since boarding so he was relieved to actually find some time to enjoy a leisurely meal. He entered the galley and noted a few officers present, including the XO who he didn’t think he’d had the pleasure of meeting yet. He nodded to the pair as he made his way over to the galley where he was pleased to find an old fashioned dish of shepherds pie with fresh buns. He eagerly took a large helping with a cup of coffee and turned to look for a seat.
