Humans always had a place in Eldorin’s heart. They were such a young species, both in how new they were to traveling the stars and their overall development as a society. It hadn’t been too long since they had so recently blown each other to smithereens in a world ending war the likes of which their planet hadn’t seen. Not that El-Auria was a peaceful one, he was in exile and had been for over 100 years on Earth because of it, but the violence and war on his home world didn’t result in Armageddon, it didn’t cause lasting health and ecological disasters, it was a more civilized brutality. With that, one might expect Eldorin to have a near Vulcan level of contempt for the humans, however he absolutely loved them. He had lived through the years leading up to WW3 and beyond, he had raised a family, he had lost his son, and yet he didn’t blame humanity for that.He had joined Starfleet under the guise of a regular human wanting to be a crewman, wanting to experience those days working as he had back in the 1970’s and 1980’s as a mechanic on the primitive vehicles of the day. And now he was onboard a starship once more, poised to keep the bearings greased as he used to say. He approached Engineering and looked up at the warp engine, such a human design, utilitarian yet beautiful in a way before he sought out the small square shaped room located on the port side of the engine room on deck F where he knocked politely before opening the door, “Chief?”
–Eldorin Asam, Engineering–
The door opened abruptly and amid sized man with short dark curly hair backed out of the office bearing a long, if slim crate. On the other side of said crate was a slightly taller figure, trim with straw colored hair that one would swear at first glance to be unruly. Blue eyes were keen as they looked past the first figure. “Watch your step, Galen,” he said. “Easy does it.” Both bore regular seaman noncom rankings.
An accented voice came from behind them. “Straight on into the machine shop. Ensign Serinde will find you a place for that.” As they passed he emerged, an older dark skinned man, bald with a wide face and matching mouth. Seeing Eldorin there he looked him over and said, “Good, you’re not the new Chief. Expected anytime. It’s been a while since we’ve had a Chief that this office has been more storage than anything. Just cleaning it out for her. Lt Green, acting Chief, usually prefers his cabin or be mobile than use an office.” He stuck out a hand. “I’m SCPO Seifu. Off duty I’m Bekele. Welcome aboard. You are?”
He stepped aside to let Galen and the other crewman back in. Most by the look of it had been removed. “I’d direct you to Lt Green but he’s at the shuttle pods awaiting the Chief’s pod to dock.”
- SCPO SeifuEldorin chuckled a little as he heard how the Chief’s office was now just a storage closet and how it wasn’t to different from some machine shops he had worked back in the 1980’s on earth. Taking the hand he shook it with a smile, “Crewman First Class Asam formal, like. Crewman Asam when I’m on the clock, Eldorin when I’m off it, and ‘hey you’ when they’ve some shite work needs doin’ that the officers are too grand for. Good to meet ye.” Eldorin replied as he took the man’s hand and shook it with a smile. His accent clearly influenced by the decades that he and Rende had spent in Belfast, it was one that had not originally come naturally to him when they first settled but that he had picked up and adopted as his own, quickly sounding like a life long Irishman, and thankfully it helped him blend in as human. It helped he could say his name was Celtic and most folks simply nodded along without any idea that he was a centuries old alien, although the mystique had worn off since their first contact with the Vulcans, the idea of a near 300 year old alien simply working as a crewman on a ship reeked of either spying or infiltration, both of which Eldorin had experience and neither of which he wanted to account for.

They shook hands. Bekele’s shake was firm and intentional. “Welcome aboard Crewman First Class.” His other hand held up to stop the two returning crewmen. Pointing to the straw haired freckled one. “This is Dorian Grigio. This other is Galen Sideris. Both crewmen class as you. Gents this is Eldorin Asam. I trust you will make him comfortable here.”
“Howdy,” said Dorian reaching out to shake Eldorin’s hand.
Galen brushed a five o’clock shadow which looked groomed and intentional. “Hey,” he said. His shake was stronger and he looked like he kept himself fit.Bekele was looking around. He pointed out a tall slim woman, just slightly shorter than Eldorin, with jagged cut hair that bore a blue tint along the edges. She was at one of the many consoles looking at a display of something that Eldorin couldn’t pick out at that angle. “That’s Darlene, Darlene Kohl. There’s three more but not on this shift.” His attention came back to Eldorin. “You have your bunk assignment yet? Kit on board?”
- Bekele, SCPO Eng
OOC: And yes I do have the engineering bunch named ..OOC: I love that you do!
Eldorin looked around and shook hands jovially as he got the round of introductions and placed faces to names, remembering well who was who as he said, “It’s good to meet ye all. I think I’m on second shift, like. Who am I joinin’ from this wee bunch? Or is this second shift already, and my sense of time’s all messed up?” Now Eldorin knew it was second shift but it let him see how his peers answered questions. “I don’t, like. What bunks are free, then? I’m travelin’ light, thankfully. Only what I can carry is what I brought with me.”
–Eldorin, Engineering–
“The Lt, that’s Lt Green, has rotating shifts so expect to bounce about. No, wait, a new Chief is incoming so things might change. Lt Green has been acting Chief since Lt Marshell left early this year. Between you, me and the warp core the powers just should promote Lt Green into that spot. He’s been ‘acting’ for longer than there’s been a Chief appointed. Mind you, he errs on the side of regulations.” He took a breath. “I’m second on beta shift. Ensign Gagarin is usually the lead. Lt Green was the lead but without a chief he’s been on Alpha shift.” Nodding his head to the far door. “Ensign Serinde rounds off the officer complement. She’s our machinist but has a good head and do not challenge her to darts.”
“Fellas, finish up here in the chief’s office and then have a tea. After that help Ensign Serinde to find places in her shop for all the things you’re stuffing in there.” Dorian and Galen slipped past them back into the small office.
“As for bunk. At the moment Seaman Fry - Will, his cabin has an opening. Boris Gostonovik has been on and off sick with something and has been moved out to another cabin. Personally I think he is reacting to Will’s incense that he occasionally burns. Will is on E Deck. Cabin 11. I can take you there if you like. Introduce you.”
- Bekele, SCPO Eng“That’d be grand if you’d be so kind. I appreciate the introductions and the lay of the land, like. It’s good to know who I might be workin’ closely with. As for the bunk? Incense isn’t a problem. Me wife used to get this stuff from a shop back… Ach, you don’t need the story of me home life. It won’t be a bother.” Eldorin said, catching himself about to reminisce over a shop he and Rende used to frequent a century before any of his fellow shipmates were born. “I’m happy enough to drop off me bags and get stuck in, if you’ll have me. Every ship has its own personality, like, and I’d like to learn her wee quirks.”

“One moment,” Bekele said and moved the short distance across the room to the door to the Machine Shop. Eldorin could see Galen hefting one of the crates up onto a shelf. “Ensign,” Bekele said. A moment later a short, trim Asian woman appeared in the doorway. Her features were inquisitive. She was wiping her hands on a white and red rag at her waist. “New crewman is boarding,” he began, pointing to Eldorin. “I’ll show him to his quarters, with Will.”
El peered around Bekele at Eldorin and raised a brow and lifted a hand in greeting. “Will? Hope he likes quiet,” she commented.
“Who knows, it might get him out of his shell, but we don’t have much else.”
She nodded. “No telling how many we’ll get aboard on this mission. Any idea of what it is?”
“Not much. Gossip is it is searching for lost freighters but nothing more.”
“Freighters,” she said with a soft frown.
“Not likely slavers like the last time,” he commented.
“Yeah,” she said. Her voice had a distinct Chinese accent but her English was very good. “Get him settled. I guess we’ll have to work at figuring out who’s speaking to whom when someone calls out El.” Smiling she went back into the shop.“Right, let’s go,” Bekele said. As they went along, he said, “My village. Well, town. Everyone calls them villages where I’m from, uses incense and such with festivals. It can be heady stuff. Where do you hail from?”
- Bekele et al, Eng
Eldorin listened intently to get as much information as he could from the crew, it was always exciting to have a new adventure and new folks to experience it with. He gleaned things about his new cabin mate, the past missions, and the general attitude of those he’d be serving with. Bekele explained a little of his heritage and Eldorin was curious about more, “Oh, I hail from just outside Belfast, in Northern Ireland, like…” He said before trailing off, remembering that it hadn’t been ‘Northern Ireland’ since reunification in 2024, and he quickly followed up with “So, tell me, what kind of festivals are you talkin’ about for your village, like? I could talk about Belfast all day long, but there’ll be time for that later I ‘spose”
