“Ah, indeed it tis. Can Ah buy you a drink in the Lunarr Rroverr, Lieutenant, to repay ye forr yer kindly assistance?” Stewart asked as he walked with her out the door into the corridor.~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Laursen turned to the Ensign, “If you need help again, just call.” She patted him on the shoulder and stepped out into the corridor. “Sure, I’m off duty right now. Appreciate it.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Excellent, afterr you, Lieutenant.” Stewart said as he waited for her to enter the turbolift before he followed her in and tapped the bottom for Deck G. “So how long have ye serrved on the Sojourrnerr, Lieutenant?” He asked curiously.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Helena stepped into the lift, stepped to the side and then turned to face the door. “Just over two years. I came on board when she was commissioned to launch. She good a ship and the piloting controls are the most advanced in the fleet. She’s a dream to fly.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Ahh, ye got to fly a new ship. This a drream , that it’s. So wherre werre ye, beforre this? This is my firrst space ship. Ah came out of rretirement forr Earrth Navy.” Reaching Deck G, he held the door for Laursen to exit first.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“Thank you,” Helena said as she passed him and headed toward the lounge. “My last space side posting was Mars Colony, but when I finished there I went back to being Admiral Ochoa’s personal pilot on Earth. I think he knew this was coming open, so he didn’t want to send me off to miss the oportunity.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Ah, that was considerrate of him.”Stewart said as he headed over toward the galley.”What strrikes yer fancy, Liuetenant? Ah meself shall be having a cup o’ tea.”
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Laursen nodded, “It was. I’ve worked with Admiral Ochoa since he was a Commodore at the Academy.” She looked over the offerings. “Lingonberry tea I think.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Excellent,” Stewart put in the order with a plate of scones and made his way with Laursen to an available table where he set down the cups and the plate before sitting down himself.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Sitting Laursen picked up her cup and inhaled. She put it back down; it still needed to steep a bit more. “So what convinced you to come out of retirement?”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Hmmm.” Stewart said as he inhaled a whiff of his own tea, blew on it and then took an appreciative sip. Setting it back down, he folded his hands around his cup and looked at Laursen.”That is a good question. Mainly, because the Admirral talked meh out of rretirrement with all kinds of prromises, Ah am not surre Ah believe.” He chuckled a moment before adding. “Though perrhaps, meh drreams as a boy had something to do with it too. Ah used to lay on the hills of Aberrdeen and look up at the starrs, wonderring what it would be like to be out herre. Now herre Ah am.”
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“It’s never quite like our dreams,” Laursen said with a chuckle. “What do you think of it so far?”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“So farr, it’s been fine. Haven’t seen anything exciting yet, but then to see anything exciting is when things arre going wrrong. What have you seen mission wise so farr?”
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“Oh, a lot. As you said, it usually means things are going wrong. I’ve been on a Vulcan ship. Sojourner’s first mission was to Wolf 359. Beautiful place. Inhabited though. Very primitive people, but lovely. A few ships from the Earth Cargo fleet found them, and we’re taking them as slaves.” The anger in her voice was physical. “Captain Renault put a stop to it.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Interresting.” Stewart mused as he considered that. “The universe is rratherr a diverrse place, t’isnt it?” He sipped his tea as he considered that.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Helena nodded, “It is. I think we will find it is more than. We imagine as we are able to explore farther. I’ve met Vulcans, and a couple of others, a Tellarite on their ship, and a horrible violent species. The Vulcans call them Nausicans.” She shuddered at the thought.
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
Stewart’s brow went up,”Nausicans…sounds nasty.” He finished his tea and got to go get a refill.”Morre tea, lass?” He asked Laursen.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“Scaled cranial ridges, large upper and lower tusks, and take pleasure in inflicting pain before killing you. They’re nasty.” Helena shook her head, she hadn’t even started on her tea yet. “No, I’m find for now, thank you, Cmdr.”
She picked up her tea and tasted it. Now it was steeped enough. She enjoyed her tea, but didn’t partake of any food for the moment. “What about yourself? I’m sure you’ve seen some things in your time.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
Stewart sat back down with his refilled tea and picked up a scone to dip in it and snack on while he spoke. “Sounds nasty indeed, Ah hope we don’t run into those blokes. Hmm, well most of what Ah have seen has been on the oceans of Earrth. Ah sailed on her in the Earth Navy for 40 yearrs. I saw a lot therre though. We spent most of the time as patrollerrs and escorrts. Pirrating, trreasurre seekerrs, rrescues....the gamut. Earrth still has it’s underrgrround elements. Ah imagine that Ah can use most of those well honed skills out herre though its an entirrely differrent element. Space that is. Ah tend to think of it as anotherr austerre envirronment like the oceans. With turrbulent weatherr and encounterrs.”
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Laursen hoped they didn’t either. They had lost a lot of the crew that day. She and Renault had been lucky. “Exploring is exploring. Space, ocean, bottom of the sea. It’s all exciting.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
Stewart chuckled, “It can be that, aye.” He said as he picked up the plate and offered Laursen a scone.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“Thank yo....”
Marceau happened to enter just as Stewart offered Laursen a scone. A buttery, fairly laden stone. He grabbed the scone swiftly but gently and shook his head. “Our pilot is lactose intolerant I’m afraid, Alexander,” Marceau said to Stewart.
~ Capt Renault
“Captain.” Stewart said as he watched the other man pick up a scone with relish.
Helena smirked and shook her head as she watched Marceau snatch the scone. She looked back at the CAO, “As I was saying, thank you, but I must decline. I had to promise the Captain to not expose the crew to the unpleasant effects of my picky digestive track.”
“Ahh, my apologies, lass. Ah was not awarre of that. Next time Ah will keep that in mind for ye.”
Helena waved it off, “No apology necessary, Cmdr. I’m responsible for my own health. I know what I can and can not eat. I do appreciate the offer.” In truth she was amuses by the Captain’s action. He had always looked out for her at the Academy. It was no different now.
“Join us, Captain? We were just discussing the myriad of different things we have seen in our service years.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Aye sirr, please do. Would ye like a cup o’ tea?” Stewart said as he set the plate back down in the middle of the table.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Of course,” Marceau replied. “I prefer coffee to tea, actually,” he said. He pointed at Helena, “They hooked me on it in Academy.”
~ Capt Renault
“Of courrse, let meh get ye a cup ‘o, Captain!” Stewart said heartily as he rose and went to the galley. He returned shortly with a cup and saucer with cream and sugar on the side. “Herre ye be, sir.” He said as he set it before the Captain and retook his seat.
“Ah take it that the two of ye have quite the interrestin’ historry?”~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
Laursen laughed, “Same year at the Academy. Same cadet squad. Renault has been my CO ever sense. We flew into San Francisco on the same plane.”
