He had intended to keep his ‘real’ self secret, his wife too but she was in boot camp at the moment. Starfleet were accommodating but skeptical. He claimed to be an alien but looked like them, passed as them, and he wasn’t infiltrating them? He was… a refugee? He had lived in Ireland for nearly 2 centuries, living through the Eugenics Wars into World War 3, having only left after losing his son and returning to see Humanity taking their first lurches into space as his people had centuries ago. It was a difficult time to be sure, and the Vulcan influence dampened Humanity’s natural curiosity which led to them chafing under the partnership.

He wasn’t surprised that he was seen skeptically but it took him offering to simply serve, not as a lieutenant, not a general, not an admiral, but just as a Crewman. One condition though, he wanted to pass as human. To not be seen as different, and as such he made sure Starfleet agreed to treat his files as just some bloke from Belfast, any medical checks by a person who is in the ‘know’ hence his first assignment to a ship with a doctor for a Captain.

He waited outside of the Captain’s office, a strange sight for a crewman in engineering to be waiting for the Captain, but few questioned it as he rang the bell.
