[snip]“I will,” Sasha said, the grin reforming. He held still for more moments before realizing what he was doing, or not doing, then turned and jogged the route to the shuttle bay, arriving there before anyone else. Breathing hard he walked the gangway until he was next to Shuttle 2. It was humming slightly and the hatch was open. Seconds later a cocker spaniel jumped out followed by Rick. Nessa saw him and sat, tail wagging.
“I heard Pod 2 was going to go on the run. I’d been tuning up Pod 1 but they chose 2. Wanted to make sure it came up green on the board before they got there. So hey, Ensign, good luck. Bring us back a souvenir. We should have one for each mission, maybe something for a wall in the mess or somewhere.”
Sasha thought about that, shifting the satchel around on his shoulder. “I’ll .. I’ll try,” he said, thinking on the one side that that was a great idea, and on the other side of whether that was allowed. Lt Green would know those regulations. He knew them all. “Come on Nessa,” Rick said and moved past Sasha to leave and make room for the rest of the landing party, Nessa following close to his heel.

Heather came through the bay doors, a pack slung over her shoulders, packed with a variety of gear to collect samples of the local flora to bring back for later study, plus a few small things that could help when they were on the surface.
Peeking her head into the shuttlepod she nodded to Sasha before climbing in. It looked like they were still waiting on the rest of the team.
“Ready to go?” Moving forward Heather claimed one of the seats behind the pilots chair.
Cmdr. Grace - XO / CSO
At that Sasha buckled himself in. All arms and legs the gangly youth appeared that he was making a greater effort of it than was true. Fortunately he didn’t have anyone else around him yet at the time to be in the way of said elbows working the straps.
The pilot looked over her shoulder, “Aye, Cmdr. Prechecks are done and the shuttle is fully stocked. Just waiting on everyone to arrive.”
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
Stewart ducked his head under the door jamb as he made his way onto the shuttle. He sat his phase rifle propped up between the corner of his seat and the bulkhead. His phase pistol rode on his hip.
OOC: Small note we dont got phase pistols/rifles yet just the plasma EM series take a look at the era primer for more information on the MOTD we’re still pre-season 1 of enterprise
“Commanderr, Lieutenant. Ah am Commanderr Stewart, CAO, reporting for away duty as ordered.” He said by way of greeting. He waited for the XO’s acknowledgement before he took his seat.

NE Bolsen ducked in the side of the POD, sliding in a small carry case, “..Hey so just happened to get a peek at some scans near that landing site, looked like alot of older stuff. My cousin gave me a couple of those old early 21st century tools and connectors, maybe some of it might be useful to you down there. Just make sure you bring them back please?” he said.

Stewart glanced toward the Engineers in the group to be sure they’d heard Bolson.
Reaching and straining, this time his long arms coming in handy, Sasha took the carry case. At arms length and with its modest weight he nearly dropped it, or rather it nearly carried his arm down to the deck. “I will have a look. I would like to meet your cousin sometime,” Sasha remarked as he pulled the case onto his lap. Almost immediately his curiosity got the better of him and he snapped it open to have a look. Given his space race history these connections and tools were things come alive from the history books and engineering history classes. Ignoring most everything else for now he handled them all like treasured museum pieces and examined the connectors for compatibility.

“Good thinking Ensign! We’ll try to bring them back all in one piece.”
Aiden slipped into the shuttle door. “Present, accounted for, and ready to go!” he cheerfully reported.

“We are just waiting for, a medic....” Heather said as one came skidding around the corner and into the bay. “And there they are.”
After the medics gear was stowed, and the hatch closed, Heather turned back towards the pilot.
“Alright, let’s head on down to the planet.”
Cmdr. Grace - XO / CSO
“Aye Cmdr.,” Higgins, one of the backup pilots said. She commedia the bridge as she started the engines. Soon the mag clamp was lowering them out of the bay and they were headed for the planet and through the atmosphere.
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
As the pod safely was free to maneuver from the Sojourner and began to enter the planet’s atmosphere the pod shuddered from the friction of entry to the planet. But after about a minute or two of passage and descent things smoothed out and they were flying normally on a powered glide through the clouds. The area below and ahead for their target destination was mostly hilly forests, a mixture of tall and medium sized trees that seemed to sprout a sort of leaf/pine mixed ends. Smaller trees were picked up in passing that held fruit it seems though if edible they couldn’t tell. Regardless small animal life both on land and within the streams they flew over were also in evidence. As they finally came down about 300 feet above the tree line about 5 miles out from their destination they were greeted by the first signs of avian life.
Normally not thrilled with small vehicle travel like this Sasha was engrossed in the contents of the bag and weathered it better than usual, only looking out the port window when they were below the clouds.
Three large birds with a wing span almost double that of the pod itself rose up from a cluster of larger trees nearby. Auditory sensors picked up their screeching cries of challenge to their territory it seems. While they didn’t land on the pod or do anything offensive like hit it, it was clear these large avian were quite territorial. But much like a trio of escorting planes on Earth it seems after another mile or so of air travel the three squawked loudly and broke off their investigation returning back the way they had come.
And his eyes went wide with wonder at seeing this, quickly bringing up a recording device to take some shots of these huge beasts. “El won’t believe this,” he said quietly, wondering what they made of his short cropped dark hair and pale face peering out the small window at them. It was with some disappointment that they turned and left, though he was sure that the engineer would have made a poor meal for even one of them.
Finally ahead their landing area came into view on a higher plateau clearing. A wider river ran not far from the shuttle’s landing site, and evidence was in place now much closer up that someone had rigged various local materials and canvas into a half way passable and comfortable looking building or sorts. They had also rigged up a water wheel to likely power and charge the electronics on the shuttle and reengineered something the shuttle was carrying at launch as a long range transmitter to broadcast the signal they picked up.
“Looks functional,” he said more to himself with his nose to the window. “Would that hold up to one of those birds?” he mused, then, “Oh look, an old water wheel.” His eyes watched it turn with the sluice dumping water on the wheel. Metal bits gleaming showed the mix of old and new (ish) tech that they used to power things. But a hundred and fifty plus year old ship and mechanics would be a miracle to keep running! But somehow their ingenuity managed.
Looking also more up close they could see a small stout out building near the forest edge about 200 feet off the crash site that had gentle wisps of smoke coming from it. The best place to land would be near there to give the most clearance and approach for security reasons.
GM CockRoach
Heather followed the large birds as they flew off, hopefully she would get some time to study them before they left the planet. But as they banked away her attention turned back to their intended landing area.
As the landing zone came into view, she took in what she could of the camp through the front window. On the forest edge she caught the wisp of smoke as it rose into the air.
“Over there,” she said pointing out the window towards the pilot.
Higgins banked the pod slightly, glad the birds were gone. She wasn’t keen on having to fend them off.
Lt. Laursen, Helm/Navigation Officer
“Commander, I think we’ll need your help in picking out a landing site,” she said looking over at Stewart.
Cmdr. Grace - XO / CSO
Stewart, who had been watching out the window on their descent and musing on the giant birds, would they run into more large aggressive animals, he wondered? Came back to himself at the Commander’s words he unbuckled his belt and moved forward where he could see more fully out of the viewscreen.
“Ah would suggest somewherre nearr that outbuilding therre wherre it’s flat but still give us some coverr.” He said as he pointed. “Arre we expecting some surrvivorrs?” He asked thinking that it looked like there were survivors for sometime given the rough made structures.
~Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart CAO
“Great great great grandchildren more likely,” Sasha said. “But someone lived to even have this small community. Er, sir,” he added.
