The lift doors whooshed open allowing Lt. Commander Stewart access to the bridge. He did not see the Captain in his center seat so he nodded to the officer on watch as he made his way forward and starboard to the Ready Room doors. He reached up and pushed the chime button. While he waited he straightened his jacket again and put his shoulders back.

The Captain sat in his seat in the ready room as the door opened. He had curly red hair. He smiled in a friendly way and beckoned in the new CAO. The room was neat, the desk orderly, with a small French flag sitting in the corner and a painting of a French city, labelled as Marseille on the wall.

Stewart’s eyes flicked over his new Commanding officer and took him in fully at a glance as his eyes then flicked around the office, he noted every detail and filed it away. Heritage France, on Earth and obviously attached to it to hang a picture of it in his office he mused. The man seemed relaxed and exuded command as if he was born to it.

Marceau was always stressed, though he did not show it. He was no bold, brash Captain. Coming from a medical background, he was quiet and reserved. He’d been known as an excellent doctor. One of the best. His skills translated to command as a compassionate yet firm leader.

Stewart had of course read every crew members record so he knew the bare bones but that was entirely different from actually meeting someone and taking their measure.

When he spoke, it confirmed his home location. He had a heavy French accent. “Welcome aboard, Commander.” He said, and smiled. “Commander… Stewart, yes?”

Stewart nodded as he to attention before the Captain’s desk.”Aye, sirrr.” He answered rolling his r’s with his brogue. “Lt. Commander Alexander Stewart. Lately retired from Earth Fleet’s Navy. The Admiral talked meh out of retirement with promises of duty among the stars. So here Ah am.”

Despite his love of his home, there was not a single photo of his family. Only Starfleet officers. “‘Duty among the stars’ is not an easy station, Commander,” said Marceau, his accent thick. “I am more than happy to have more experienced officers aboard, however I would like to ask what about this mission motivated you to abandon your retirement?”

Stewart paused as he considered the Captain’s question then he shrugged slightly, “No great ambition or desire, Captain. Ah have always looked to the stars and wished Ah could serve on a ship there. It was not an option at the time though so Ah took meh next best option.” He said honestly. “As ye can see by meh record, Ah served with distinction as Ah plan to do here.”
