I submit to you my observations relating to the recent action with the Trader vessels.

Ensign Sasha Gagarin. While he needs to work on his ‘command’ face, Ensign Gagarin did very well in the face of his first real combat and emergency action. His decisions were observed by myself and I concur that they were proper and within regulations. For a first time command of the engineering deck in a crisis I offer his work up for a commendation for gallantry in action.

Ensign Elemirre Serinde. First up I must say that Ensign Serinde’s ingenuity to adapt the hull integrity around the grapples was well done and no doubt saved lives. However, in doing this act she disregarded two separate orders, one from the Captain to, using an old American term, lone ranger it. In doing so she failed to alert Engineering that she was transferring power systems. In so doing she created chaos in those attempting to stabilize systems and re-route power. Moreover in the armory she assaulted a crewman who attempted to restrain her. She could have been part of the team and alerted Engineering of her plan while en route to her ordered post. I regretfully suggest reprimands due infractions crossing several approved regulations, assaulting a fellow crewman, and ignoring direct orders from a superior and commanding officer.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Bekele Seifu. Bekele and his damage control team including Petty Officer Emerson Fawkes and Seaman William Fry were exemplary in containing the hull breach in and about the Captain’s suite. Several microfractures due to hull buckling were detected and sealed along the outer hull. After detection it was noted that that area of the hull while not breached was in danger of structural failure due to a lack of integrity in two of the nearby nickel plating moldings. This was a dangerous operation that was professionally undertaken with no injuries. For he and his team I suggest a commendation on their record.

Chief Petty Officer Fiona Cleare. Fiona was part of a damage control team that was assigned to the lower decks during the recent operation, specifically her and her team
- Seamen Dorian Grigio and Galen Sideris) contained the hull buckling and shield polarization in that region. I do not suggest a commendation for their work but a notation in her record that CPO Fiona Cleare worked at reconfiguring the damaged deflector dish. This wasn’t her main strength but she improvised and brought us back to navigational capability.

Seaman Boris Gostovnick. Seaman Gostovnik had his first combat action. At an integral moment under pressure Gostovnik froze. While he recovered with assistance by myself his action placed the ship in danger by his inaction. For the remainder of the incident Seaman Gostovnik performed adequately. I do not suggest a reprimand for freezing up in a stressful moment but I suggest pairing him with a Petty Officer such as Chief Petty Officer Fiona Cleare to run him through simulation emergency drills. I suggest drills on our way back to Earth with the engineering crew, myself included, once damage control has been done to your satisfaction.
