SS Sojourner
Main Sim - Bridge
[snip]
Just as Heather continued to listen she caught another soft reply in the background filter, that of the 1st cargo ship’s CO ‘Frank’. =/\= Will you indecipherable, Susan! They can’t possibly know, Fleeter sensors aint much better then what we hard working real Earther’s got, plus our indecipherable on the planet will mask anything down there. We’re all making a killing on these slaving runs, coupled with our usual runs! Morgan’s company will cover our indecipherable, if these Fleeters get too nosey we got the *indecipherable* as back up plus us all here together, they won’t stand a chance. Now get back to your station! =/\=
Odina walked onto the bridge, she was in her uniform though her usual braid was twisted up into a bun, there was streak of ash across her left cheek, “Sorry for the delay thanks for holding the fort Green,” she had a collection of parts in a container in her hands. “For just in case we need a back up for the current set up that you and El have gotten together.” she said with a wry grin.
Odina Marshell, CEO
Green breathed a sigh of relief while at the same time wondering what had taken her. HIs eyes flickered from the odd parts to the ash on her cheek and back again. As though remembering himself he stood straight and stepped aside so she could take the engineering station. “Very good, Lt,” he said then said in a lower voice so to not disturb the communication about them. “I’ve called a general quarters for the engineering staff. All hands are on deck. Damage and fire control teams are moving into place. Full shift staff in engineering. Serinde is in the armory in case there is an issue with these comms, and EPS Alpha 9 power distribution optimization program is prepared to be implemented,” he said gesturing to the communicator taped to the tactical console, then gestured to the Captain. “The freighters are nervous. I called GQ just in case and, to be honest Lt, I thought it a good drill for them if it comes to naught and prepared if needed.” He paused to think about whether it was all covered and believed it was so.
Odina nodded listening to his detailed and quick report of what he had been up to while she was searching for more parts.
After another pause, and no further replies from the Sojourner yet coming, Frank spoke more openly, =/\= Hey you Fleeter’s still on this line? Getting a lot of dead air in response from you all! =/\= He said.
He paused, “Ensign Gagarin is holding fort in engineering. With your permission I will go and relieve him and inspect his orders. As well, I thought I may detail him to any active damage control team to give him experience if that should arise.” He let out a breath. “Any further orders, Ma’am?” His British accent seemed to flow just as easily, perhaps a bit more comfortably with ma’am than Lt.
He glanced to the view-screen. Being here was exciting and, if the chief weren’t aboard he may have found himself acting differently. As it was he was mixed between having had some butterflies with the thought of being here and relieved that he wasn’t chiefly responsible for decisions. It was a feeling that he needed to work through given his tenure and sense that he was on the list for Chief Engineer, though didn’t know how far down he was on that list at all. With the plethora of ships out there now and increasing that that would come up - but would he choose or decline? His family pride would hint toward a ship of the line such as this rather than a small operating vessel. He would have to see when and if it happened.

Odina smiled softly, keeping her voice low as she replied to Green’s question, “Well if you want to stay here get more bridge time? I am more than happy to give Gagarin his relief from engineering, to have him give aid to damage control or we could send him to help Serinde in the armory as back up?”
Odina Marshell, CEO
Green shifted his bulk and tugged in thought at his shovel like beard. Glancing at the main viewer for some heartbeats he looked back at Odina. “Thank you, ma’am,” he began and lowered his own voice, “But with all due respect, chief, you should be visible here at this time.” He glanced about to the other command staff on the bridge and smiled. “It is the bane of being the lead. I have done my time here and you need to have presence among your peers. I’ll inspect the team and give Gagarin the lead in this. Serinde ..” he sighed as he said the name. “Is best where she is.” By the tone of his voice he didn’t think too much of her. “The armory people are probably chafing at having even her there looking over their shoulders.”
- Green, NL Eng
“Give Serinde a chance Green, she’s got a good head on her shoulders she just needs a chance to gain more confidence.” she said keeping her voice down since she didn’t want to interrupt the open com line to the cargo vessel. “When time allows you and I should compare notes on the teams in relaxed terms.” she added keeping her voice soft, before she moved to let Green pass her and exit the bridge.
Green’s expression was that he has been giving her chances but he did nod, matching her low voice. “She has a good head. She can do math like you wouldn’t believe. Her machine shop work is exact.” He leaned in and stopped talking as a crewman moved past with a status report. “She has a meek exterior but I don’t believe it. Just a feeling, Lt, but something doesn’t jive with her. However yes, we’ll go over the team after. They’re good. They need a firm hand but they are good.” He lifted himself up to his full height and gave Odina a respectful nod. “Lieutenant,” he said and turned to head down to engineering.
Green, NL EngHeather gestured towards Conlon to mute the transmission.
“Captain?”
Marceau’s frown deepened. “We’re not letting this ship go anywhere.” He said when he wa sure the transmission was muted. “Conlon, Grace, go through the transmissions, see what the interference is. Look for anything else we might’ve missed. Also, Ensign Conlon, put me back through. I intend to ask exactly what they think they are doing with those locals.” They’d heard the ship crew say “slave runs” but he wanted to make them say it themselves.
~ Capt Renault
“Channel is open, sir,” Aiden reported, unmuting it as requested.
OOC: As a reminder the interference they speak of is the problems you had on the planet earlier in the sim as well as interference of scans in orbit here (and as probes showed later again earlier in the sim) near the other smaller planet by the sun in the system
GM CockRoach
“I’m assuming that they are referring to the interference that Lt Locke was able to help clear up for us recently. But we can review the comms again just in case.”
Pushing herself back over to the middle of the science console, Heather pulled up the earlier transmissions to see if there was another other references to interference in the logs.
Cmdr. Grace - XO / CSO
OOC: Ok i’m gonna try again to remind everyone. The interference referenced is what you all encountered on the planet before all the cargo ships showed up. The one that was masking the natives and controlling/masking the odd alien signal system on the planet. the alien system as you discovered was used to hide the natives (unknown reason why fyi outside the scope of this sim), the cargo ships cooped it somehow to hide the natives even more and as a side effect also cause non-filtered machines, scans, etc to get drained/not work like you encountered with the drill and such. You eventually all found a way to counter this control, both o nthe planet and in orbit, meaning you overrode the cargo ship’s control of this system though they dont seem aware of it, you could use this for your own needs (hint hint coming up), atm i’m just waiting for someone to decide to call out the cargo ship’s CO on their BS activity/lies, or decide if you are ok with them doing this activity its a grey area on whether you got jurisdiction rights here at this early of an era in 2150 pre-enterprise launch of season 1, to police them so your call ic/ooc hope this helps.....
Aiden, figuring that the CSO was more than capable of reviewing the records on her own, continued to work to actively amplify background conversations as the captain spoke, making sure to catch the crew in any lies they spoke.
Odina was looking over the temporary repairs Green had set up and nodded to herself. As she settled in to be ready to offer any help, or make quick fixes if needed. She hadn’t really looked around the bridge much before there were several differences she noticed from the Journeyman’s bridge but she kept her opinions to herself on what she was seeing, she knew there were still repairs that needed to be completed but they had more pressing matters at the moment in time.

As for efforts to listen in on more of the background not much else was picked up just the annoyed sounding huff of the CO, =/\= Hey you Fleeters gonna just leave me on mute here? Either reply or do something or close this channel, I aint got all day to sit here and listen to dead air, unlike you Fleeters we got work to do or in this case R&R to take planet side. So that said why don’t you all just buzz off and leave us too it? No sense you sticking around anymore....=/\= He said.
