At last the translator was decrypting it, applying a combination of algorithms. It suddenly burst out in a static of recognizable verbage - “Hello? Hello? Are you really from beyond? We need your help. We’re all dying here.”

The probe would immediately come up with a wash of information - most immediately of course being that the center of the Sphere was essentially a black hole. Gravitational pull was significant but would not hinder ships or probes that kept reasonably close to the shell of the Sphere.

Within the sphere, local power sources hovered above the surface at what might be considered an atmospheric level, and of varying strength, but nothing great compared to the surface power outputs they had noted. They were also not in any consistent pattern but dotted about.

That is ‘first impressions’ from the probe.

As the rest of the bridge crew was thinking over the transmission Alison was staring at the readings the probe was finally kicking back. “Captain, the shuttle needs to hold back immediately. I’m showing a gravitational singularity inside of the sphere. I need to determine the potential effect on the shuttlecraft will be before they approach any further.”

Ari nodded and sent a message to the shuttle. =^= Shuttle, hold back. There is a huge gravity well in the middle of the sphere. Barr is trying to calculate the safest entry depth. We ‘have’ received a transmission for help along with some telemetry. But till we are certain, hold outside the sphere. =^= She hoped they would wait. Whoever needed rescuing, they could only hope there was still someone there to retrieve.

Stepping onto the bridge, her silence enough to attempt to keep herself hidden, while the others tended to whatever they happened to be up to, Jharaas joined Tafoya. She gace a nod towards the Captain, but didn’t speak, as not to interrupt their duties. “Anything of significance?” She inquired, lowly, to the opposing MACO.

Lt. Jharaas

Melissa looked at Jharaas “We are sending a shuttle into the other ship, however we are sending in a probe before hand to make sure that it’s safe. There has been little to no communication from the other ship.” She said quietly “Just waiting to see what is needed from us.” She added.

Barber-Tafoya

“Understood. Thank you,” Jharaas considered the information offered to her, nodding to Tafoya, as if giving an acknolwedgement to her. Clasping her hands behind her, she stood at ease, but remained listening.

Ari nodded to Barber as she entered the bridge. “Come on folks… tell me what we have. Do they have sufficient clearance to enter the sphere or at least land on the surface with safety? We need to save them if we can. But I won’t risk the shuttle… I’m open to intel, folks. Barr… anything yet?” She wasn’t mad, but curious. There was something more here than they were getting information on.

Something was niggling the back of her mind… she just wasn’t sure what…

“By my calculations Captain, as long as they stick close to the outer shell of the sphere, they will be able to stay far enough way from the worst effects of the singularity. I suggest we redirect a probe to the other side of the singularity of the shuttle, so we can get the best picture of the inside. They are going to have to be close enough that the curvature is going to limit their sensors.”

Melissa watched the situation as it unfolded. She felt that it would have been better for the MACOs to be on the away team, however it was no longer her command. She was in more of a support role.

Tafoya (MACO)

Ari listened to Barr and nodded. Tapping the console beside her she hailed the shuttle. [O] Ok shuttle… You can enter but remain close to the walls. If you sense anything amiss, don’t hesitate to haul yourselves out right away. And Barr thinks we should be able to send in a probe and scoot it around the inner perimeter to see about additional readings. Watch that singularity and keep the comm open. Proceed with caution. [O]

She stepped back and moved to sit in her chair. If she stayed standing, she’d pace. Her crewmates, her family, were going in there without her.

And she didn’t like that one bit.

She sat back in her chair watching the viewer. And unless they knew what to look for, she was surprisingly calm. Only her knuckles flexing on the of her chair and making themselves white with the strain, gave away her tension.

((Crossed to shuttle))

The probe telemetry data showed strange data that would require science to lay into and study. It all looked just perfect in the positioning of the singularity and distance to the skin of the Sphere. Moreover, a fly by within would display the energy sources to be anti-grav units. There was no habitation on the interior surface of the Sphere, but an atmosphere extended far beyond what one would normally have with a planet - nearly 300 for a habitable area.

Baumann, AC

Alison furrowed her brow as she looked over the data the probe was sending back. “Captain, it looks like the singularity is perfectly centered inside the Sphere…” she trailed off as she looked through more of the data. She shook her head.

“Captain, I’m going to have to send this information down to the science labs, and get my team to look deeper into this. This is beyond what I have seen before.”
