OOC: Had a nice long note about investigating the power issues .. then realized Science had already done that .. my bad .. so ..

After a quick uniform change and a visit to the cafeteria for tea and a biscuit El returned to Engineering. She had wanted to look into the mystery of the power loss though Science was on that. Inside she felt more than a little professional jealousy with them working at it when she felt the issues personally. Pushing that to the back of her mind, El picked up her tools and moved to the Armory. There were two of the Armory/MACO cross breeds there, Benji and Florian, the two most ill matched duos that she had ever seen - and coming from a military academy that was something. There was a good foot difference in their height and disposition. One slim and the other broad, one looking like Errol Flynn and the other like a bar bouncer who had had one too many fights. But the look they gave her was the same: someone had entered their sanctum.
“Ensign?” Benji said.
“Hi, ah, I came down to check your link to the bridge’s targeting computer. A .. alien damaged things there,” El replied.
“Did we win?” said Florian, a noticeable Italian accent present.
El made a face. “Kinda?” The two looked at each other, then shrugged.
Florian pressed at the display near him and flicked a couple of switches. Benji looked over the massive shoulder. “Looks fine. Targeting online.” Florian shook his head. “From here yes, but there is nothing from the bridge. That circuit doesn’t connect.” They both looked at El as though she did it.
“The thing shorted out a lot up there.” She hooked her fingers and made a cat like gesture. “Claws.”
“Must’ve been some claws,” Benji said.
“Killed two,” El replied. They looked at each other.
“You gonna fix this then, Ensign?” Florian said.
El looked sheepish. “Can’t. We don’t have the parts for it. Until we have a work around they’ll have to transmit the data to you and you’ll have to input targeting from here.”
“Nothing like speedy work when you’re in a fight,” Benji replied.
“I can have a look. There may be some cabling that we can jury rig something to get from the bridge to here.” Even she didn’t sound convincing but they moved aside and with a sweep of a rather heavy hand Florian invited her to look.
El pulled the paneling under the targeting console and started looking for anything redundant. Her mind swam with the wiring diagrams which didn’t yield anything useful to her. But maybe there was something extraneous she could use that would tie in with a redundant feed from the bridge. The trouble would be .. where might that go that she’d have to trace. It was worth a shot anyway as she felt rather useless otherwise.
