Kenny was sure not to oogle at Naomi while she was changing, either closing his eyes of averting his gaze until she was decent. “Honestly, I didn’t have any ideas of what to do… I just wanted to spend time with you,” he said with a sheepish grin.Kenny
“We’ve been dating for how long, a month or so?” Naomi said as she turned to face him, finally fully dressed.
Truthfully, she found it hard to track time in general. Between work and little free time, she felt she was missing out on something in her life. Upon seeing his charming farm boy antics, a smile cracked across her lips. It was still refreshing to see him trying to polite though she was sure that would fade over time.
“I think so. It’s hard to believe the night at that bar was almost a year ago… six months of friendship, me in stasis for three months after the accident, two months of will-they-won’t-they,” he teased.
She was dressed in a close fitting one piece, pale blue dress with mid-calf boots. It had been a while since she wore. She loved it especially on her free time, though it had been used only breifly in recent months.
“You can look now,” she commented before bumping the storage unit shut with her romp.
He glanced up and smiled at the sight. He would never get used to seeing her. Even when she was in uniform, she stood out from the crowd in a wonderful way.
“You know, we always do something I want. I barely know anything about your likes or dislikes so why not use this time to officially learn about each other? It might be harder on the ship, but we can try to replicate some of things you enjoy back at home,” Naomi suggested.

“If we were back home, we could ride horses or sit out in the sunshine with the dogs… we could work in the garden with my mum or keep the neighbour’s kids busy with all sorts of games. Most of what I used to do for fun is kinda… confined to the world outside a ship. Nowadays I mostly just read…” he chuckled slightly, then shrugged. “Not much else to do on a ship like the Bonnie.”
He smiled, standing up to grab her in his arms and give her a hug, then a quick peck on the nose. “I guess we could go to the upside-down room where the gravity is switched. Allison told me about the spot on her ship that has it, before she… you know…” he trailed off slightly, getting a little somber. “Well, she told me about it and I found the spot on the Bonnie. It’s a byproduct of the grav-generators,” he explained, getting his smile back.

“Your home life sounds drastically more fun than mine ever was. When I left home, most my time was spent between studying or partying. Usually the later due to my best friend’s whims,” Naomi said then sighed, realizing how much she missed earth.
At the mention of Allison, Naomi’s eyes shifted to look him into the eye and listened. The topic was a depressive one. He was referring to his older sister who had vanished during a mission. He smiled to hide the pain, but she could see through the mask easily. She wore one for much of her life.
Deciding to lighten his mood, she reached out to take his hand into hers. She hoped he would let her.
He took her hand in his, squeezing it. Although Allison had disappeared more than a year ago, it still hurt like a fresh wound. He knew she’d make it through, thanks to some time traveling shenanigans, but it was still hard.
“Lead the way, cowboy. Sounds like my type of thing,” She asked, letting her mood heal him some.

“Yeah, let’s go,” he said with a small smile, leading Naomi out of her quarters and down and around to the upside-down room. He demonstrated how to push off, and floated up and twisted himself to land on the ceiling.

Naomi watched him. Her eyes widened when she spotted him start to float the moment he pushed off into the anti-gravity field. He only hoovered a short range but it was enough to keep her attention. She watched him use the momentum from his arms to shimmy to one side then another. He went up then down. It looked rather easy, at first. The apprehension and excitement leaked out of her body language as she braced herself to try it.
Her hands touched the wall to ground herself before she stepped into range. Immediately her weight seemed to lift off her person. Her feet stepped on ‘solid’ air while she rose higher off the ground. On impulse, her limbs spread eagle style across the space.
A small groan escaped her lips. It wasn’t from fear, but the adrenaline of a new experience. By this time, she had floated farther from the wall and into the room’s center. Mimicking Kenneth, she slowly twisted her body in a similar feline movement. Her feet touched it briefly.
“Okay, this is bloody interesting,” She couldn’t help stating out loud.
She smiled and followed up with another question, “Have you tested its limitations yet?”
