As the spinning creature came flying at Grace even faster now she barely got the containment net up in time to catch it. No sooner had she bagged it when the creature’s daze from the hit, and its one injured fifth leg now broken became evident to it. The creature was hissing and screeching something fierce in the netting. It showed surprising strength for its size, but the netting for now held. Though its clawed feet, and teeth and spiked tail even though cramped were working heavily to find a means of escape even now....

Just then over an open comm line, an NE from sickbay came through =/\= NE Tech here, bridge be on the alert for a very dangerous alien creature coming up there! It’s already killed one med tech in the decomm chamber, though some of the team should be on there way up soon! =/\=

And no sooner after that when the turbolift opened again after a moment or so two armory officers armed with phase pistols and mag boots came out behind the XO. “..Where’s the threat?” One asked, then the other pointed to the thrashing bag of the XO, “…oh…sorry had a problem getting the mag boots out of the lockers..” he said both aiming their pistols in the direction of the irate thrashing creature.

And finally a second after that NE Sally also in sickbay spoke, =/\= Its a predatory insect from the Kaferia system, beyond known space by Earth. The Vulcans found it in a system known as Tau Ceti some light years from here as their origins. Something called like Vek’lee or something. Its born out of a small egg, and then seeks out prey the more protein and organic residue that it consumes translates to a faster growth rate. From what the Vulcans say the more intelligent the prey it consumes the faster and stronger it gets. Eventually it seeks to lay eggs in a selected prey upon full maturation before it dies after 5-6 days by our time once it lays its eggs. Life expectancy until then can range from 2 weeks to 5 months. =/\= She added.

Helena pushed off, leaving Aiden in Renault’s capable hands. She hit the comm button, =O=Little late medical. We have another dead crewman up here and one critically injured.=C=

“Tell them to hurry.” Marceau said, “Ensign Conlon needs medical attention.”

=/\=Sickbay, Captain says to hurry. En Conlon needs immediate attention.”/\=

=/\= Understood I’ll be up shortly. =/\= Came the NE male voice.

Then she made her way slowly back towards Aiden and Renault. She wished they would get a cage or something. Then she looked at the floating dead body. “You don’t think it laid eggs in the body do you?”

Green looked a little green around his shovel like beard. He had very nearly just ducked but had held fast .. and, admittedly only to himself and hoped nobody else saw it at the last second he closed his eyes and hoped he would hit it. It had momentum in its favor and the strike with the spanner jarred his right arm from the impact. Still he breathed a sigh of relief that it was netted - a miracle at least in Green’s book. He pulled himself up with shaky legs, thankful that the gravity was non existent which helped him keep face.

“What about Ensign Conlon?” he asked. “Does the egg laying have to be in a dead person?”

Marceau gave Helena a look. “You have to come up with the nastiest ideas, don’t you?” And for once, he did not envy Medical’s job.

“Sorey Capt. Sally said it, not me. I just want to make sure we don’t end up with more of these things. Did you see what it did to the Tactical station?” Helena quipped.

Green winced at the thought of repairs and it was then that he saw Serinde behind the XO who had had the net. She was standing behind her in her skivvies. What was THAT about? He would have her on report for that! That said, she wasn’t alone in that. At the mention of the tactical station he saw Serinde peer around the now crowded area by the lift to spy out the damage it had done. He wondered what else she had seen as her gaze turned up to the badly damaged duct work.

“Or the other body that is already down in sickbay,” Heather said while trying to maintain a grip on the net. “We need to get this in a stronger containment vessel before it figures out how to get out of the net. Or a really strong box.

“Give me a hand,” she said looking over at the two NE’s with their mag boots. “And could someone ask sickbay if the Vulcans found a way to either sedate or contain these creatures?”

Cmdr Grace - XO/CSO

After Green had snapped her out of her shock, Naomi managed to push herself back. She hit the wall as her arm gripped the nearest handle. Her wide eyes continued to stare while fighting to do something useful. The chaos finally came to an end when a net wrapped about the creature’s form, trapping it within it.

A sense of relief entered Naomi, melting her fear. Her arms stirred as she pushed closer to the others.

“I’m not going to lie, eggs crossed my mind too. I don’t want to run into smaller copies of this…,” she pointed at the wiggling mass in Grace’s hands, “on the ship.”

Helena nodded towards Naomi with a ‘see I’m not the only one freaked out’ look.

Careful to float past, she moved to a wall nearest the CO. She scanned the it a bit before finding the first aid kit. Pulling a specially designed lever, it released and she handed it off to the Captain.

“This might help.” Her eyes avoided the floating globs of red as she moved to contacted sickbay.

=^= Bridge to Sickbay, did the Vulcans have information how to sedate or contain the creature? We have it in a net, but that isn’t going to last long.=^=

-Lt. Naomi D. Locke, Sci

Helena snagged the med kit and flipped it open for Renault, holding it nearby and trying to steady Aiden as much as possible.

NE Sally’s voice came back on then, =/\= Looks like nothing on sedation or containment, they just shoot it on sight to avoid larger infestations. =/\= She said.

OOC: Fixing split

“Shooting it sounds reasonable, yes?” Marceau said as he began to treat Aiden’s wounds with the materials in the first aid kit. “Okay, hold still, Ensign…”

He nodded to Helena, “You’re a good shot. You do it.”

Meanwhile El had followed up behind the XO. She couldn’t do much and knew it. The gravity was off and she clutched at the crowded edge of a handhold to keep herself steady. She looked at the creature flailing in the net and edged another few inches away from it. At the mention of damage she peered around and locked eyes with Lt Green who himself was looking wide eyed at her. Was that because of her state of dress, presence or something else? She didn’t know. Scanning her eyes around she saw where it had emerged and had skittered onto. Did it really do that much damage with its claws? She glanced at it again, happy that the security group were keeping their eyes on it. Still she could smell the coppery scent of the blood, not to mention blood in the air and the sounds of the injured Ensign, and was quietly grateful that it hadn’t gotten much bigger or it would have been on PO Rick’s nightmare list if it hadn’t been already. Where was he? On another lift? He wasn’t in theirs, and the security group had come up on the second. He must still be down there on B deck waiting.

Laursen looked around. There were no gun stashes on the bridge nor did she have one on her person. AH! The armory officers. “Aye, Cpt.” Helena pushed off and using random consoles made her way over to the armory Officer. She hooked a foot around his leg to stabilize herself and grinned. “Alright you heard the Captain. Pistol please.” The armory officers knew her rating, it was better than most. She had earned expert marksman and worked to keep it. She checked the chamber. “Cmdr Grace, just hold it out as far from you as possible.” Helena moved so the angle of fire had no one directly behind it. She was steady, but the thi g was wiggling like crazy. She steadied herself by anchoring to a console. She took a breath and a truly deadly look came over her face. So completely different from the laid back, cocky pilot. She aimed and fired.
