Naomi hated the night shifts. Most thought she hated the loneliness or isolation, but it far more childish. She hated cleaning up after her fellow officers. It never failed that anyone assigned to the night shift, usually had a huge clean up job ahead of them. Part of her wished she had some sort of high ground, but she was as guilty as the rest. It annoyed her that it was her turn so soon. With a soft sigh, she began to pick up the bleakers. Some had liquids and others were empty. The only positive things was all dangerous chemicals were locked up after duty. Grumbling to herself underneath her breath, Naomi set the containers in the sanitizer. Its dull hum began to echo around the room.
She glanced at the door as if hoping it might open. On good days, the dog and his walker often stopped by for a chat. It helped the time go faster.

The door opened, and an NE, not the dog’s usual walker, headed in with the dog at his heels. Nessa was off-leash. MACO trained, she was generally incredibly well behaved. However, still young and energetic, she did have her moments. The Captain was known to be quite fond of her, though. “Hey Lieutenant Locke,” said the handler. “Thought you might like to see Nessa. Working on anything interesting tonight?” He asked.
Nessa chose that moment to dart into the room and snatch a case off the floor, small enough for her to take into her mouth. “Nessa, no!” The handler shouted, “Drop it! Stop!” But, the dog paid him no heed and proceeded to dart out of the lab and into the corridor.

Upon hearing Nessa’s rowdy bark, Naomi turned to greet them with a smile. It quickly turned to horror when she spotted the small dog rush forward and snatch a vial case. Normally, Naomi would’ve less worried, but she had no idea what was in that. She hadn’t even gotten around to sorting it before the dog bolted from the labs.
A curse uttered from her lips as the scientist rushed after Nessa.
“Don’t stand there, help me!” She rushed past into the corridor where she glimpsed the long tail disappear around a corner.
Wasting little time, she followed only to lose track of Nessa. Heavy breathes rippled through her chest as she struggled to catch her breath. She wasn’t the most physically fit among the crew.
“Where did Nessa go?”
-Lt. Naomi D. Locke, Sci
Nessa’s handler raced after the dog, but he was even more out of shape than Locke was, and was quickly left behind by both of them, waving her on. “You… Hah.... You go ahead and find them. I need a minute…” He huffed.
The dog’s tail wagged as she raced through the halls, thoroughly enjoying this little game of keep away. Nessa turned down another corridor, and then ducked into a storage compartment to enjoy her prize.
Marceau was heading down the hall toward the science labs, happening to pass by when Locke asked where Nessa had gone. “Nessa? I haven’t seen her. Are you looking for her?” He asked Naomi.

Naomi leaned over. Her lungs inhaled and her mouth dry, her heart racing. She raised a finger for a minute while she collected herself.
“Yeah, she took off with a case. I’m not sure what’s in it.” She panted out her statement before realizing who she was talking to.

“A case from Science?” Marceau asked, concerned, looking at Naomi. He frowned and ran a hand through his hair. “You aren’t going to catch her by winning chase,” He pointed out, “She’s a dog, she’s faster than us. What if we find her and then lure her with something better than a science case?”
~ Capt Renault
“Yes. I’m not sure what it had in it as I hadn’t gotten around to logging it.” Naomi lifted her torso upright, feeling her spine shift and crack. She fought the flinch along his form. Her mind pinned a note to increase her activity in the future as she listened.
“That’s the best option. Jacques was the same way. He liked to get into things too. What type of food does she like? A treat might do the trick.”
