Hauling up the probe took a good almost 20 minutes, with the added gravity pulling down on it from the planet it was certainly a lot more work then they would have had to do normally. Finally though after 20 minutes the probe was on the surface. Sure enough the power cell in it too was dead as dead could be. The on board storage medium though once slipped into a reader back on the ship should be safe and sound provided no electrical damage had been done to it.

The MACOs meanwhile found no sign of life intelligent or otherwise during their watch. With the winch and probe in hand they could pack it back up and return to the shuttlepod and the ship then.

After finally pulling the probe backup, Heather sat down on the ground nearby. She fished a water bottle out of her pack, and took a look drink before offering it to El.

“Any reason we couldn’t examine the probe back on the ship? Probably best to get back to the rendezvous with the shuttle pod.”

“Agreed.” said the MACO commander. The MACOs helped the team store and haul the equipment back to the shuttle pod.

With everything stored and cleaned up the team could return to the ship without further delay.

After a short hike back to the shuttle pod, the team managed to get the probe loaded back up and safely stored. They would be able to analyze the data back on the ship itself, try to figure out why the probe stopped working.

With everyone in the shuttle pod, Heather pulled the hatch closed and took her seat up behind the pilot.

“Alright, let’s head back to the Sojourner.”
