Helena’s cheeks flushed a light pink at the nickname, but she was quite serious. He couldn’t give up his career if she lost hers. “If I could not, you would request Billy. He would come out here as fast as a warp 4 ship could get him here. You know that.” She sighed, “It would be no different than when we were given different duty assignments.” It would suck.“It would be worse than that, and that was bad enough as it is,” Marceau complained. He’d made her wait thirteen years, he wasn’t going to just let her go now. He took a breath, “Let’s worry about now, not what might happen if we don’t worry about now.”
Helena turned, lifting her legs onto the bed (trying really hard to make sure she didn’t wince or seem to struggle) and leaned back. The scan showed some residual inflammation and stiffness. Her nerves were no longer over acting. What signs of damage there had been before, the ice, rest, and meds were correcting that.
“When you’re done, scan yourself too.”
Helena
Marceau seemed to relax a little as the results came up. “You are improving. The pain is caused by residual stiffness and inflammation, but the nerves are no longer overacting and the damage is healing.” He gave her a look, and then sat by her and scanned himself, showing her the results.
Helena grinned, “See. I am fine, well I’m getting there,” she quickly amended. “I am being a good patient. Those not-a-lollipops are working.”
Marceau grinned, “Then we will have to keep giving those.”
His stress was still too high, registering ‘through the roof’ as Gray had put it cortisol, a high heart rate and slightly high blood pressure, and signs of an upset stomach. The antacids had lowered the acidity of his stomach acid, keeping the acid from coming up as much or being as damaging.
~ Marceau
Helena had no idea what any of it meant except his heart rate and blood pressure. “Marceau do you need a tranquilizer or something? How are you sleeping? What about something for high blood pressure? Just to get it to come down?” Helena didn’t know how all that worked, but she was worried.
Helena
“You were with me last night, I slept.” Marceau made an ‘ehhhh’ sort of face. “It’s fine so long as it doesn’t stay like that. If it stays that high, then yes, I will have to let Doctor Grey do something about it.” He shook his head then, “I’d rather avoid tranquilizers if I can. Too hard to wake up if I’m urgently needed for something.”
~ Marceau
“Marceau?” Helena gave him a look, teasing, half serious, and full of mirth, “are you trying to convince me that sleepovers are essential to your health and well being?”
Helena
“What? No, I’m not.” Marceau said, but then a playful grin crossed his face, “Buuuuut it doesn’t sound like a bad idea.” He still had his arm wrapped around his belly, leaned over slightly, and then he leaned on Helena instead. “Might be good for both of us. Lots of opportunities to dole out not-lollipops.”
~ Marceau
Helena leaned in, her forehead resting against his. Helena always spoke with an accent, she never sounded like a native English speaker, not that she tried, but for a moment her accent became much more noticeable. “Ljón, are you bribing me? I have to be honest, it’s working.” She closed the space between them and kissed him.
Helena
Marceau smiled, chuckling softly, “Now I am, yes.” He leaned towards her and kissed her back. His body felt tense with stress as he pulled her into a hug. When the kiss broke off he smiled warmly again, “Now I know what I was missing for thirteen years.”
~ Marceau
Helena felt like she’d fallen asleep and woken into an alternate universe. She had seen glimpses of a flirtatious and forward side of Marceau but he had always blushed and chickened out. Helena was suddenly reminded of that night, oh so many years ago, when they were prepping for their first cadet mission. Lucy had shown up and attempted to make a scene, and Marceau had quite effectively and smoothly diffused that situation. That was when they had all decided support Marceau as Cadet CO too. Oh wow.......
Being a good kisser did tend to make that easier when one was dealing with one’s girlfriend. Marceau had used kissing or attention more than once to diffuse situations involving Lucy. But he had always been good at de-escalating situations anyway, a side effect of his home life. It was one of the things that had earned him his place as a Captain. Diplomatic skills were in high demand as United Earth grew ever closer to deep space travel.
Helena was too dazed to answer with more than a breathy “yeah” and then laid her head on his shoulder.
Helena
Marceau leaned his head against hers, feeling much lighter. “Is that a yes to a sleepover?” He asked cutely, voice soft, giving her a look out the corner of his eye. “It’ll be good for both of us, I think.”
~ Marceau
Helena peeked up at him, the corner of her mouth turning up in amusement. “Já, we will have a sleepover if Grey doesn’t eject me out an air lock.” She took a deep breath like she was preparing to run a gauntlet. “I should really go see her and tell her how long it’s been. She’s already going to think I was hiding it, and who knows what torture she might devise. Wanna help me stretch before I go?”
Helena
“She won’t, I’m sure.” Marceau said, smiling. Then he nodded, but he seemed reluctant to move away from her. “I’m glad you want to tell her, but I’m soooo comfortable, I don’t wanna move yet.”
~ Marceau
Helena laughed nervously. “I’m glad you think so. I am not so sure. But if you are comfortable and relaxed we don’t have to move yet. Anything for you, Ljón.”
Helena
Marceau smiled and rested against her. “I do feel more relaxed than earlier. But,” he looked at her, turning his head slightly against her, “when you want to go, we can.”
~ Marceau
Helena laughed. “No, I can.” She set a finger to his lips, “If we escort each other down there one more time there are going to be problems. The first being Grey will think I was trying to hide things and I’m not. The final being the rumors and the loss of our privacy with them. You can stay here and sleep or read a book.”
Helena
Marceau kissed her finger, trying to be goofy. “I know, I know… But you’ll tell me what she says?” He said, looking at her. The rumors were already a problem, always had been. And with them having shown up together twice already, he wouldn’t be surprised if Grey was already guessing things.
~ Marceau
Helena would not have called it goofy. It was sweet and warm. “Of course I will. I tell you everything.” Rumors were always a problem. Helena ignored them or set them straight, depending on what the rumor was. The problem was, this time, the rumors were partially true, and it was no one’s business but theirs. “I’ll stretch before I go, or I’ll be hobbling like an old woman down to the medical bay.”
Helena
Marceau nodded. “Stretch well and be careful.” He was still cuddled into her, looking comfortable, though his arm lingered across his belly, a reminder his stomach was still upset.
It was then that the wall comm sparked to life. [C]Captain Renault, we have a small ship on the viewscreen, requesting your presence on the bridge.[C]
~ Marceau
Helena looked up, “Want me to come up there?”
Helena
Marceau shook his head. “You take care of your sickbay trip.” He sighed, he didn’t want to get up but now he had to. “Meet me back here?”
~ Marceau
Helena nodded, “Of course.” She hugged him and then slipped on her shoes. “Go, this is the exciting stuff. I am going to go see Dr Grey,” Helena shuddered for effect and with a grin left.
Helena
Marceau hugged her back, then changed into his uniform and headed up to the bridge.
Several hours and a pointless boarding party later, the small ship had been discovered to be the wreckage of a Nausican pirate ship. The hull was damaged, the engines dead, and escape pods jettisoned. No crew remained on board. There was nothing of use or value on board, either.
Marceau had gone over to the ship with the boarding party on a shuttle not piloted by Helena, and the fill in pilot had nearly missed the docking port on the other ship, scaring Marceau half to death in the process. The mission had otherwise been uneventful.
Upon return, Marceau gave orders to continue their previous heading, and then turned command of the bridge over and left to check if Helena had returned from Sickbay.
~ Marceau
Helena had felt the bay doors open and knew a shuttle left. She had no idea Marceau was on the shuttle, but it sucked. It should be her flying it. She didn’t say a word about it though. Her due punishment for not taking care of herself. She left sickbay and returned to her room because Marceau wasn’t done yet, and letting herself into his quarters was a little telling.
She figured Marceau would check her cabin when he was done.
