It readily became apparent that there was no ‘easy’ landing site that might get one through to the interior of the sphere. However, as they approached, it was apparent that this was not needed. As the shuttle came closer one section of the sphere - minuscule part of it by the appearance and size of it - but it was the size that would fit a starship a hundred times the size of the Bonnie.

It was at this point that two things happened ..
The first was .. the weak distress signal suddenly became much stronger.
The second was .. power readings increased, as did interference in getting readings.

Regarding the distress call, the message stopped seconds after there was a kind of reception with the shuttle. Seconds later it started again, but it was not a repeating message. Someone was at the other end. Unfortunately, the language was unknown. The tone was careful in its speech, but quick and hopeful.

The Captain’s voice came over the comms, =^=Shuttle, hold for a moment.=^=

Baumann throttled back at the Captain’s instructions and then looked back at the two teams. “Delta, prepare to deploy as soon as we dock. Secure the landing area adjacent to the shuttle. We have a non-repeating distress call… someone is there requesting help. Again, ladies and gentlemen, we are here to lend assistance. If we encounter hostiles, we retreat, rendezvous at the shuttle and extract. We are not here to conduct combat operations except in defense. Crew safety is paramount.”

“Have you tried running the message through the Universal Translator?” T’Leia asked as she sat forward. She was trying to remember if the aliens they had met previously had spoken a different language when they first met them. (GM?)

Commander T’Leia

“Sure wish we had better translation circuits,” Kenny muttered as he piloted the ship cautiously towards the giant opening which had suddenly appeared. “Maybe they don’t know we don’t speak their stuff? What if we send over a ‘hey, got your message but our translator isn’t able to figure out what you’re saying,’ or something of the sort?” he commented back towards the Commander.

Kenneth Fleet
CE and Pilot

“If they are more advanced then us and we put a message on a loop addressing the station and our arrival, perhaps they will be able to translate it over time. Feel free too, Commander Fleet.” T’Leia answered as she mused this out.

Commander T’Leia

Max stood up looked at the chief and nodded “Aye Sir.” He walked to the aft of the shuttle pacing back and forth.

Noami had been silent for most the shuttle ride. She had nodded to the XO when she was told to remain by her side. It was likely safest than wounding up lost in a ship she had no business being on. Deep down, she couldn’t help worrying. Mostly about what they might encounter on the sphere or what exactly might’ve caused the distress signal, silently regretted her decision now. She wasn’t the best trained scientist for field work. Add that onto her past head injuries, one wrong move might result in her falling into a coma and never waking up one day.

Her heart leapt up into her throat when she felt the shuttle grind to a stop. She jerked upright in time to catch the conversation between the XO and Kenneth. Naomi bit her lower lip, considering what they had said then added her thoughts in.

“They might speak a language rooted in wavelengths or radiation levels. Words received might not register to them fully,” Noami used the conversation to purely distract herself from her inner thoughts.

Rachel stayed quiet as she got herself set up with the second team. She hadn’t left the ship since her first arrival and she was admittedly excited with the prospect. Although she did enjoy the quiet of Sickbay she did occationally feel the need for action.

Baumann listened to the distress call as they waited for the Captain’s orders. He made sure that recording was made, as well.

Meanwhile, Rachel did some stretching to limber up. She looked around at the teams and made mental notes of each and every ones physical histories. Anyhting might become pertinent.

Kenny gradually slowed the shuttle, pulling back on the throttle and not quite proceeding through the entrance that had been opened for them. “Should I go through?” He asked Baumann, scratching his nose slightly and watching the Armory Chief for instruction.

Kenneth Fleet, CE and Navigator

“The Captain said hold.” Baumann said calmly, although Fleet could see his jaw clenched tightly. “Although I do not relish the idea of floating here as a stationary target. Perhaps a precursory pass to see if we can garner any further information?” he asked, his eyes focused on the sphere.

Baumann, AC

Being stationary would yield some information that … might be interesting.

Over the entrance they detected no weapons signatures at all.
However, sensors detected a gravitational pull that was immediately evident: at the center of the space within the Sphere was a black hole. This far out the shuttle was in no danger of being sucked in.
As well, there were numerous power sources along the inner edge of the Sphere. They were centralized and of varying strengths but nothing ‘mammoth’. In fact, on many the shuttle could put out a similar output.

The Translator finally began to put something together. “Hello? Hello? Are you really from beyond? We need your help. We’re all dying here.”

Baumann looked back at the XO and said “First contact, Ma’am.” and he then motioned for her to come and man the communications.

Baumann, AC

Suddenly the Captain’s voice came over the comm. =^= Shuttle, hold back. There is a huge gravity well in the middle of the sphere. Barri is trying to calculate the safest entry depth. We ‘have’ received a transmission for help along with some telemetry. But till we are certain, hold outside the sphere. =^=

Baumann looked at Fleet and said “Well, I suppose that answers that.” in a most uncharacteristically sarcastic and playful manner. Baumann then keyed the comms. [o] Shuttel to Bonaventure. We have the same readings, Captain. Be advised, a large area of the sphere has opened inviting entry. Dimensions are immense. Bonaventure would fit easily inside. We will hold position until further instruction. [c]

Rachel, who was now upside down standing on her hands finally spoke again “Don’t worry lieutenant, We’ll get to leave soon” Her left arm rose carefully “We just need to be patient and hopeful” She said with her crooked smile.
