Baumann assembled a security team of four plus himself. Each had a communicator, phase pistol and rifle, and two Anastazine gas grenades. Baumann had an addition: A sword hung off his hip, carried with a familiarity born of experience and practice. As the team assembled outside the shuttle Baumann spoke to them, his German accent making his words sound stern, though his team knew that to not be the case.“We have received a distress call from a station in the midst of the stellar objects. It is extremely large, magnitudes greater in size than Earth. We will conduct a primary flyover of the area where the signal is originating from to ascertain a docking or landing point. Make sure we have EVA suits available along with cutting torches in case we need to make our own entry. This is not a combat exercise, but we will defend ourselves should the need arise. You will take no offensive actions without my express order, save to protect yourself from imminent threat.” and he paused to make sure that the security team was paying attention.
“We are approaching this as a Search and Rescue. We will maintain that premise until the circumstances dictate otherwise. We will be dealing with a as of now unknown race. Be cognizant that they may have customs or behaviors that may appear to you to be aggressive, but may not be intended as such. We will go slow, we will check our surroundings, and we will let Science and Medical deal with anyone we encounter. Our primary focus will be the safety and security of our crew and anyone determined to need our assistance. Get everything loaded and secured. We depart in ten. Any questions?”
Baumann, AC
“Any hostiles Sir?”
Woods, Armory
“Unknown at this time, Mr. Woods. We have Bravo team here., and we will secure the rescue party. You take charge of Delta. Secure the landing area and set up a secure perimeter. The shuttle is the only way back, we need to keep it safe. If you can, send scouts and try to glean as much information as you can as well. But no unnecessary risks, Mr. Woods. I want all of us coming back to the ship. Understood?” Baumann replied.
Baumann, AC
Max nodded “Yes Sir.”
Woods, Armory
OOC: Feel free to launch when ready. I know there are a couple of discussions of others being a part of the team. Let’s move forward and anyone else coming can be assumed to have boarded and launched with you.
- GeneOOC: Copy that.
IC: Once all the assembled team was prepared and ready, Baumman gave the order to board the shuttle. It was a bit cramped with everyone on board, but they managed to squeeze in with all their gear. Baumann took the pilot’s chair; he had the necessary training for insertion and extraction piloting, but would be rubbish in an actual ship-to-ship conflict.
“Everyone, lock in and prepare for departure.” he said to those on board. He gave the bridge the ready signal and the shuttle rose off the deck and left through the bay doors.
Baumann, AC
T’Leia glided silently onto the shuttle before the door closed and took her seat, sitting on the inside to give Locke room to sit beside her.
Max stood up “Delta Team on me.” Three other armory officers stood closely to Max. “We’re taking point Cromwell and Harrison watch my Six. I’ll take point when we disembark with Lawson.” The three officers nodded and checked their rifles. “Lieutenant Baumann my team is ready.”

Since his favorite job had always been being a pilot, Fleet took point on steering the shuttlecraft. The whole ride over to the sphere was a breeze, despite the slightly over-packed sardines feeling Kenny knew the passengers were experiencing. When he landed, his initial instinct was to stay with the shuttle, just in case the teams needed a speedy exit.
“Baumann, which team do you think would benefit from having an engineer coming along with them?” He asked, turning his head to look at the Armory Chief.
Kenny
CEOOC: Fixing split. CE response didn’t show up when I replied to Woods.
IC: Without looking back from the copilot’s chair, Baumann said “Copy, Mr. Woods. We are inbound and will perform a fly-over of the proposed insertion site in 2 minutes. Eyes on the sphere, call out any contacts. Once we touch down, Bravo Team prepare for insertion upon the all-clear from Delta.” He then looked at the Chief Engineer and said “Delta is securing the landing zone and prepping for a fast extraction. Bravo will be accompanying those looking for the source of the distress signal. You are free to join whomever you like, Commander. But if you wish to see as much of this as you can, I would recommend staying with me and Bravo.”
Baumann, AC
“If we are to have two teams it would make sense to have Commander Fleet in charge of one and I go with the other.” T’Leia said. “Locke, I would like you to stay with me.” She said to the CSO beside her.
Commander T’Leia
Appearing suddenly behind the Vulcan, as if she were some sort of phantom, the towering Medical Chief spoke in her general chipper tone “Am I needed for this or will a care package suffice, Commander” She asked the Vulcan, raising her medical pack. With the odd goings on recently, she hadn’t been given directives but with such a large force amassing her previous Andorian Training kicked in.
Dr. Grey - CMO
“I believe a Medical officer would not be remiss. Welcome, Doctor.” T’Leia said with a short nod.
Commander T’Leia
“Excellent then” Rachel placed her Medical pack down and removed her white coat, simply throwing it away into a corner. Revealing she still had the pair of batons attached to her uniform on either side. She picked up the pack and slung it around her shoulders “this’ll be fun”

It readily became apparent that there was no ‘easy’ landing site that might get one through to the interior of the sphere. However, as they approached, it was apparent that this was not needed. As the shuttle came closer one section of the sphere - minuscule part of it by the appearance and size of it - but it was the size that would fit a starship a hundred times the size of the Bonnie.
It was at this point that two things happened ..
The first was .. the weak distress signal suddenly became much stronger.
The second was .. power readings increased, as did interference in getting readings.Regarding the distress call, the message stopped seconds after there was a kind of reception with the shuttle. Seconds later it started again, but it was not a repeating message. Someone was at the other end. Unfortunately, the language was unknown. The tone was careful in its speech, but quick and hopeful.
- WookieeThe Captain’s voice came over the comms, =^=Shuttle, hold for a moment.=^=

COBaumann throttled back at the Captain’s instructions and then looked back at the two teams. “Delta, prepare to deploy as soon as we dock. Secure the landing area adjacent to the shuttle. We have a non-repeating distress call… someone is there requesting help. Again, ladies and gentlemen, we are here to lend assistance. If we encounter hostiles, we retreat, rendezvous at the shuttle and extract. We are not here to conduct combat operations except in defense. Crew safety is paramount.”
Baumann, AC
“Have you tried running the message through the Universal Translator?” T’Leia asked as she sat forward. She was trying to remember if the aliens they had met previously had spoken a different language when they first met them. (GM?)
Commander T’Leia
“Sure wish we had better translation circuits,” Kenny muttered as he piloted the ship cautiously towards the giant opening which had suddenly appeared. “Maybe they don’t know we don’t speak their stuff? What if we send over a ‘hey, got your message but our translator isn’t able to figure out what you’re saying,’ or something of the sort?” he commented back towards the Commander.
Kenneth Fleet
CE and Pilot“If they are more advanced then us and we put a message on a loop addressing the station and our arrival, perhaps they will be able to translate it over time. Feel free too, Commander Fleet.” T’Leia answered as she mused this out.
Commander T’Leia
Max stood up looked at the chief and nodded “Aye Sir.” He walked to the aft of the shuttle pacing back and forth.

Noami had been silent for most the shuttle ride. She had nodded to the XO when she was told to remain by her side. It was likely safest than wounding up lost in a ship she had no business being on. Deep down, she couldn’t help worrying. Mostly about what they might encounter on the sphere or what exactly might’ve caused the distress signal, silently regretted her decision now. She wasn’t the best trained scientist for field work. Add that onto her past head injuries, one wrong move might result in her falling into a coma and never waking up one day.
Her heart leapt up into her throat when she felt the shuttle grind to a stop. She jerked upright in time to catch the conversation between the XO and Kenneth. Naomi bit her lower lip, considering what they had said then added her thoughts in.
“They might speak a language rooted in wavelengths or radiation levels. Words received might not register to them fully,” Noami used the conversation to purely distract herself from her inner thoughts.

Rachel stayed quiet as she got herself set up with the second team. She hadn’t left the ship since her first arrival and she was admittedly excited with the prospect. Although she did enjoy the quiet of Sickbay she did occationally feel the need for action.
Dr - Grey - CMO
Baumann listened to the distress call as they waited for the Captain’s orders. He made sure that recording was made, as well.
Baumann, AC
Meanwhile, Rachel did some stretching to limber up. She looked around at the teams and made mental notes of each and every ones physical histories. Anyhting might become pertinent.
