[snip]The perimeter when Sanks would get back into the field after eating still showed free of any issues or life that might be a threat.
For the rest of the group finishing up their short meals to answer Helena’s question they were here for as long as it took to fully survey the indicated sites and called in the follow up mining ships and such to layout the groundwork once things went ahead. This could take a week or it could take several months, it really depended on what they found and how long they took......

“Time to get to work,” said Marceau, standing from his place. “Lieutenant Locke, if you agree with Kelleher that we should stay closer to the surface, we will do that.”
~ Captain Renault
“I do.” Naomi commented, but didn’t state she planned to do it regardless of approval. She had her limits to pointless risks after all the trouble she encountered in the past.
Helena stood and grabbed an empty bag from her pack and gathered the collective trash from the group and then made a slow job back to the shuttle and stashed it inside. Never leave a trace behind. She returned, shouldering her pack and grabbing some empty sample containers so she could help Locke as they continued their survey. She adjusted her pack and fell into the group, hiking their way to the cave entrance.

Lifting upon her legs, Naomi felt the sting of the gravity fight her. She was not a fan of it. With a deep breath, she forced herself upright and followed the rest to the cave entrance.
When they arrived, she spoke up.
“We should consider marking the rock walls with chalk. I rather have at least more than one way to find my way back.”
-Lt. Naomi D. Locke, Sci
“Not a bad idea,” Logan agreed. “If our tech decides not to work right, we can at least do it the old fashioned way. Anyone have any chalk or do we go breadcrumbs like Hansel and Gretel?”
Lt kelleher, CE
Helena slipped her arm out of one shoulder strap and pulled her pack around her. She opened one of the smaller pockets and pulled out a larger piece of sidewalk chalk. “We sure this stuff is safe to introduce to the environment?” She passed the chalk over and grinned at the Captain. “Reminds me of Mars.” Helena was also the navigation officer and she pulled out paper on an old fashioned clip board, pencil, compass and her scanner. “Ready.”

“It’s just calcite limestone with colouring in it,” said Marceau with a shrug, “How bad for the environment could it be?” Then he smiled and shook his head. “Don’t jinx us, Helena.” He looked into the cave, took a deep breath, and nodded. “If we are all ready, let’s go.” He did not like the idea of a place they couldn’t easily exit. Though, to him, it was still better than flying.

“I will take point, Captain.” the large Nordic MACO Sergeant said and moved to the front. Sergeant Kristensen was taller and more heavily muscled than anyone on the ship, and her tone was one of stating a fact, not asking permission. She carried a modified plasma rifle and had a pistol on one hip… and a wicked looking short-handled axe on the other. “Leaves me to take up the hind end of this little convoy.” a cowboy-hat wearing MACO male said. Unlike his partner, Corporal Hutchins carried no weapons in his hands; but had two pistols holstered, one on each hip.

Ensign Sanks went with the Sergeant, and sent the NE security officer with the Corporal. “I’ll help you Sergeant, the NE will stay back with the Corporal.” He caught up to her pace as he spoke.
