“Lieutenant Baumann I think I can boost your tactical scans so we can see if those ports have any residual weapon signature.”

Woods, Armory

Baumann nodded in agreement. “Take care not to do anything that may be construed as hostile, Mr. Woods.” he said out loud, but had full faith and confidence in his teammate.

Baumann, AC

T’Leia heard Wood’s suggestion to Bauman and watched both men curiously to see if what the outcome to their attempt was while saying to Dysart,
“Lieutenant, any answers to our hails?”

Commander T’Leia

OOC: Correcting a typo.

Alan didn’t look up. “Not yet sir. I’ll keep trying.” He pressed a few buttons. He sent repeated hails, hoping for an answer. And maybe a new language.

-Lt(j.g.) Alan Dysart, Comms/Linguist

Ari began to pace, her desire to get in a shuttle and see the place up close, warring with the part of her that wants to run and just set a ‘caution’ beacon and let someone else deal with this. She ended up by Baumann’s chair, her hand moving to the back of it, finger tips once more extended slightly for the tactile reassurance. “Any readings on the station yet? Transmissions, weapons signature, response… anything?” Her frustration was growing and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could just sit and ‘hover’.

A thought occurred to her, “Barr… these anomalies. It’s strange they maintain such a static and regular spacing. Is there anything, either locally or part of the station, that is keeping them in place?” It was a long shot, but the fact this thing sat within a nest of stars in this state, and didn’t suffer for it, made her curious. It also made her curious, suddenly, that the ship, itself, wasn’t suffering like she thought it would.

There was no sign or hide nor hair or anything of any weapons having been used for some time.
There were as well no other probes or anomalies (that they could pick up) or ships or satellites.
There were, as well, no communications responses … however ..

From the probe - IT picked up a weak reply that would not have gotten to the Bonnie farther out. Transmitting it through, it was text only, and that only symbolism - but it was identified by the computer as a distress call. It was coming from the sphere in what might be considered the mid latitudes.

Science, at looking at the power output would say that it was a huge power output, but, for a sphere that size, it should be many magnitudes greater. The probe would show the power to be not even along the surface but spotty. None of the outputs, however, were more than what might consider baseline power and that minimal at best.

A quick comparison between the apparent tech of the sphere with that of Bane’s vessel was light years apart. There was a faint similarity in some of the construction appearance and composition with that of the probe that was rescued. But even that was less than 10% chance that it was built by the same people. Borrowed from maybe, but not the same builders.

Alan sat and admired the message for a moment. Symbolism. Unique. The computer had identified it as a distress call. Alan didn’t see it yet. He stared for a moment before a vague pattern emerged. “Captain-“ he said without looking up “there’s a signal. Text only. Distress call.”

-Lt(j.g.) Alan Dysart, Comms/Linguist

Ari sighed. Last time they got a distress call, it was from a race that had been ‘imprisoned’, for all intents and purposes, by another race. She glanced at T’Leia. “We should check it out,… shouldn’t we?” She sighed knowing she wouldn’t feel right, or sleep well, if she just turned and went away. Shaking her head in resignation, she looked around. “All right, Baumann, Barr… grabbed a couple more, and weapons, and take a shuttle. I don’t think we can maintain a lock for transporters in there.” She turned to the front of the bridge, “Helm… take us thru the perimeter and halfway to the station. I want to be able to turn tail and run if this goes sour.” She moved to her chair thinking to sit down, then realized she was restless and trying ‘not’ to get on that shuttle with Baumann. “Let’s figure this out and get out of here. This place isn’t much fun anymore.” She gave a half laugh and went back to pacing along the back of the bridge.

Baumann simply nodded and turned and looked at Woods. “Mr. Woods, you secure the ship.” and he opened the comms to the Armory. {o} Baumann to Armory. Bravo team, assemble in the shuttle bay for Boarding and Search and Rescue Operations. {c} and he set a hand on Woods’ shoulder. “Maintain open communications with us as much as possible. Duress password will be ‘supernova’.” Turning to leave, he looked for a long moment at Ari, and then nodded once and walked to the lift and left the bridge.

Baumann, AC

They approached and the station loomed huge even in their current distance. At that range they too could pick up the distress call. It was faint and text based - more like an SOS automated style than anything. Given that this was an immense station, there ‘should’ be activity about, but there wasn’t. Only a power up that looked more automated than anything and like a Christmas tree that had sections who had lights missing.
- Wookiee

“Captain, I’d like to go with the team.” T’Leia said suddenly as she rose. “It does look like this more automated then manned and perhaps once we get down there my ability to access the Vulcan database may help.” It as obvious that most of the technology they had seen so far was unfamiliar to anything the Vulcans had come across but this appeared to be of a lower tech so perhaps similarities could be found.

Commander T’Leia

Just like Naomi suspected, the sphere gave out a reading that it wasn’t running at full capability. It was still an interesting piece of hardware compared to human advancements. At least, it would’ve been if she had focused on engineering for the program rather than science. She wondered about it’s condition. The way it read, it could’ve been damaged or broken during some incident. The image of thing confirmed it for her.

Noami waited until the ones aiming to go with the away team left before she spoke to her CO. She had noted the woman had been pacing, signs associated to frustration and worry. Being a friend, she knew there was only a few ways to put that to ease. She wasn’t a big fan of risking her life on the away team, but seeing her friend being distressed didn’t help her in siding with her self-preservation instincts.

“Sir, should I accompany the away team too?” Naomi asked offering a way for Ari to feed her inner Science geek through a friend’s notes.

–ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci

Ari caught Baumann’s eyes. She smiled that smile that said everything would be fine, she’d see him soon. Then he was gone.

The Captain then turned to attention to the others. Hearing Naomi speak up made her smile again. “Thank you, Naomi. Please do. But let security go first. Just observe and let us know if it’s worth a deeper look see.”

The Captain then turned to her XO. While part of her wanted to keep the woman here, not wanting to put a command crew member at risk, she knew that if they ‘did’ encounter anyone over there, an officer of her rank and caliber, as well as talents, might be necessary. Nodding her head, she smiled. “Bring me all the details. But she goes for you. Leave the heroics to those up front. Meaning not you.”

She lightly touched T’Leia’s arm as she passed her. “Barr, let’s see what we can figure out before the get there.” She glanced around then back at the view screen. She wasn’t happy with this. But she had orders, and now the others did as well.

“Aye Captain.” T’Leia said before nodding and making her way quickly off the bridge.

Commander T’Leia

“Yes ma’am, I’ll see what we can do. Perhaps if we launch a second probe we could see if we can bounce signals between the two and see if we can get a better picture of what is in that sphere,” Alison said as she started to think of ideas of how they could get a better picture of what is out there.

As they watched from afar, a touch later, as the shuttle approached the sphere, sensors detected a ‘door’ opening. On the grand scale of the sphere, it was no more than a dark spot on the side of it. Nothing changed along the rest of the sphere that they could tell, but for one thing - along the same latitude of the opening a light started flickering.

If it had a pattern to it it was by appearance random.
- Wookiee
OOC: This is for you in the ship, not the shuttle <G>

“Captain, I think it’s inviting our shuttle in. A door opened just opened on the side of the sphere.”

Alison used the opportunity of the opening in the sphere to redirect the probe closer to the opening, hopefully to see if she could get any readings from inside of the sphere.
