“Why the hell, did we make these doors so narrow!” Logan complained to anybody within earshot while he carefully wheeled the large, rather old looking piece of machinery from the ships storage lockers through to the ships lounge. “Seriously. If we had to evacuate this thing is a choke point.”

“Maybe it wasn’t built for Chief Engineers with broad shoulders.” The crewman that was helping Logan by steering the front of the machine away from walls and corners smirked. “You clearly eat too many vege’s, leave some for the rest of us would you?”

“Oh ha ha. Hope you laugh when your shower stops working.” Logan muttered, looking around the edge of the machine at the crewman. “These broad shoulders carry the ship, I’ll have you know.”

“Well there you have it, how are you supposed to fit through the door if you’re carrying the ship. Take a load off sometimes or walk sideways, your choice.” The crewman didn’t miss a beat in her retort.

Minutes later, and Logan was dropping the machine close to a wall in the lounge. The wall space was mostly bare, only a few tables and chairs were close to it. “We’re gonna have to rearrange the lounge a little,” Logan grinned. “Can’t have a dance floor covered in seating can we.”

“Are you sure this thing works still, it looks ancient,” the woman that had helped him steer it to the lounge asked, running a finger lightly over the glass.

“Yep, it’s mine from home. I made a few modifications but it works better than ever. I just have to, convert the power outlet here to something more suitable than a plasma flow and we will make magic.” Taking off his tool belt, he promptly dropped it noisily on the closest table and rubbed his hands together.

Helena had snuck into the lounge a few minutes before Logan and his help had manhandled the contraption in. When she saw it her eyes lit up. She also barely contained her laughter as she watched and listened. An early dinner with a show. This was great.

“Anybody have any first requests for which song this bad boy pumps out?”

Kelleher, CE

Helena walked over and set a hand on his shoulder and peered into the glass. “Logan! Is this a very very late birthday present? I love it.” She tapped her lips with an index finger. “How about Can’t Stop The Feeling? You know though, if you don’t have Shut up and Dance, I will be very sad.” Then she winked at him and laughed making her way back over to her table and her drink.

Laursen, pilot

“Small secret,” Logan pointed his thumb over his shoulder as he turned to face Laursen. “I replaced the old song file with a hard drive with enough storage to hold pretty much every song ever recorded. If it isn’t on there, you just have to add it if its’ in the ships computer or I can send back home for the file in the next mail transfer. Remember Jinx? She’s looking after my place while I’m out here and she can send us anything we want.”

Helena grinned, “Oh is she now?” Maybe Jinx decided not to wait. Good for her. “So are you telling me you have the song or not? Otherwise you need to go write Jinx a letter. Tell her I said Hi.”

Marceau headed into the lounge and paused when he saw the jukebox. “Logan, non, no, I thought I told you no jukeboxes.” He complained. It was far too late to do anything about it now, unless Marceau chucked the thing out the airlock. Then he turned to Helena, “And you, do not encourage him!”

~ Capt Renault

“Captain, I distinctly remember you telling me No Motorbike. I’m pretty sure I didn’t give you the option to say no to the Juke Box. Or maybe the beer drowned out the words. Either way, we got us a Juke Box! Any requests?”

Marceau made a face. “If I did have the chance, I would say no.” He sighed, “You can keep it, but the volume has to be kept reasonable. If not, there are plenty of airlocks the perfect size for it.”

Crouching down beside the machine, Logan popped a panel off the wall and looked inside for the power conduit that he knew was passing through this location from a nearby junction. “Threats don’t become you, Captain. Remember you are a Doctor, you took an oath to do no harm. Airlocking this baby would just break Helena’s heart, you wouldn’t want that would you?” He looked over his shoulder at Marc and grinned, throwing a wink Helena’s way.

Kelleher, CE

Helena didn’t pout. That would be undignified and childish. It didn’t work on Marceau anyway. Instead she just grinned at him. “Awww, Marceau, it’s music.” Despite the fact she was grinning, Marceau knew she never joked about music. “I know. I can play music in my quarters, but there isn’t room to dance in there.”

Helena

Marceau smiled at her, “My quarters are large enough for us to dance… You know, you’ve seen it. No need for a big thing like that.” On the word ‘that’, he gestured to Logan’s jukebox. He had missed the slip of his tongue in which he had assumed it would be he and Helena dancing together.

~ Marceau

Helena looked at him. So much for Cpt Renault wanting to keep the rumors from starting. “I’ll hold you to it.” At least Marceau was aware of her penchant for dancing at 0300 when she couldn’t sleep. Now wouldn’t that make the rumors fly?

A ringing, metallic thud sounded inside the wall and was followed by a number of curse words that most likely hadn’t been used since Latin became a dead language. That was followed in turn by Logan pulling his head out of the wall rubbing the back of his skull. “Not all of us can dance in your Quarters Cap,” Logan looked straight at Marc, a look of victory in his eyes and smile. “Some of us who aren’t quite so close as you two need to let off some steam here. Besides, maybe sometimes you won’t be available to dance with Helena in your quarters, in that case, my Jukebox has her covered. Right?” Logan looked to the crewman that had helped him bring the big machine up.

Marceau grinned at the thud. Maybe it was childish, but it was so deserved. The idea of Helena dancing with someone else didn’t set well with him, though. He wasn’t sure why. “Letting off some steam can be done without a jukebox. My airlock threat stands.”

“Oh yeah, Captain,” the woman quickly agreed. “Sometimes girls just want to have a little fun, we can fit more people in here than in your quarters, Sir.” Looking at Helena and Logan, the woman smirked. “Could be fun to try though.”

Kelleher

Helena laughed totally onto what Logan was up to. “Oh! Kelleher you better have that song on there. If not I can never speak to you again.” She winked at the crewman. “However what they are both too gentlemanly to say, is the captain is saving you all from total embarrassment of having to see me dance. Best to keep me away from dignitaries. Ask Kelleher. I managed to convince him to one dance. The women at the bar felt so bad for him five them all offered to dance with him when we were done just to make up for it.” She tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder turning to grin at Marceau and he would know Helena was up to something. Helena sighed, “It was a good song too, Shut up and Dance.” Now Marceau would know she was up to something. 80% of every mischievous thing Helena did circled around that song. Especially if it involved bars and dancing.

Helena

“Helena totally shone on that dance floor and made me look good” Logan defended her, laughing lightly. “That wolf pack wasn’t even looking to dance, they were after a totally different type of D. Your buddies probably had a fun night after I left. ” Now, Logan was even humble enough to blush slightly as he turned back to the Juke Box and began fiddling with the power couplings. Behind him, the crewman looked at both Helena and Marceau, and flicked her eyebrows up and down with a smirk.

Helena shrugged at the woman. “Oh yes those wolves were after a meal, but they weren’t the goal, just the means.” She pointed over her shoulder at Logan. “See, Cpt, your CE here has been dancing around asking that spunky bar tender out for months. A bad dance with me, attacked by a pack of hungry wolves so I could talk some sense into Jinx…she decided to stop waiting for him to make a move. She’s ‘keeping an eye on his place’ while he’s gone. Going ti send him care packages too.” She raised her brows at Logan. That was how you played wingman.

Marceau shook his head slightly at Helena. He could tell she was up to something and that was not Helena’s dancing skills. She didn’t have to do this for him. He has really enjoyed their dance at the bar on Earth. He turned to the crewman who’d backed Logan up and smiled a warm, friendly smile. The kind people always said made women melt. “I never said no one could have fun… This room has music without a jukebox. And even if it didn’t, there are others ways to have fun than dance.”

~ Marceau

Helena barely managed to stop her jaw from hitting the floor. Did Marceau even realize how that sounded, along with that stop a girl’s heart, turn her brain to mush smile? She was going to have to drag Marceau out of there before he had another gaggle of women chasing him.

“Of course! Logan agreed as he stood up and started fumbling around with the controls, which had lit up seconds before. “There are plenty of ways. We can arrange a crew movie night, a chess tournament, or even a crew poker night!”

Poker night? Logan had obviously never played with Marceau or he wouldn’t suggest it. Marceau would wipe the decks clean with the crew.

Marceau seemed to like the idea. “Ship poker night! A chess tournament would be fun, also.”

Logan spun around with a look on his face that made it seem he had a great idea. “Strip poker! Let’s do a crew strip poker tournament! That’s just for fun right! We can even go department vs department!” Spreading his hands he lookednat the woman who had helped him. “Good idea yes?” Throwing everyone a grin, he turned back to the Juke Box.

“You know strip poker is only played when you want to hook up with someone right?” The woman laughed. “You don’t just play it ‘for fun.’” The laugh stopped and turned into a sultry smile though as she looked at Helena, then at Logan. “But sure, I’d play with you.”

Marceau’s face turned red and he glanced away. Logan was teasing him about Helena.

Her brows raised at Logan’s suggestion. Now why would he say that? Helena grinned as the woman turned that smile on her. So Marceau wasn’t her type? That was a first. She gave the woman a once over. “Oh I don’t know, some of us are comfortable enough to play for fun.”

“Say what?” Logans neck snapped back over his shoulder as he tried to look around. But before he could say anything else, music started, blaring out of the juke box.

got this feelin’ inside my bones
It goes electric, wavy when I turn it on
All through my city, all through my home
We’re flyin’ up, no ceilin’, when we in our zone

Kelleher

The music started and Helena dragged Marceau with her before he could say or do anything else. She knew that look. He was considering something because he had his poker face on. “Let’s dance.”

Helena

Marceau was embarrassed. At least Helena seemed unphased by Logan’s words. He wore that poker face to hide his feelings. The music was too loud for him - but then Helena was dragging him over with her and suddenly it didn’t matter so much. “O-okay.”

~ Marceau

T’Mera paused in mid-step as the music suddenly blared out of the room she was passing.

I got that sunshine in my pocket
Got that good soul in my feet
I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops (ooh)
I can’t take my eyes up off it, movin’ so phenomenally
Room on lock, the way we rock it, so don’t stop

Curious She thought to herself. The beat was both simplistic and chaotic at the same time, and the lyrics nonsensical at best, and yet she found herself entering the Lounge to see for herself what was occurring.

Several members of the crew, including the Captain and Chief Engineer that she had already met, were engaged in an over-loud conversation around a large brightly coloured music box. As T’Mera entered, a member of the crew, female, appeared to be attempting to either restrain or physically coerce the Captain. As none of the other crew present moved to assist the Captain, T’Mera resolved to merely observe developments and make notes, but stood ready to disable the Captains attacker if serious harm seemed about to occur.
